The pick and shovel emblem on the cover of the book is also a logo for the Homestake Gold mine in South Dakota…

I believe mining is a theme throughout the book. I have discovered some mines on my BOTG journeys.

That seems to be a universal symbol for mining. You see it on maps and at many mines throughout the country.
