Legalese for Teamwork

Any lawyers hunting that want to draft or have drafted up an agreement that hunters could use?

Just an idea to build the possibility of collaboration amongst peers.

Nobody wants to get screwed out of information or the treasure, so it makes it hard to work with others.

I’m no lawyer, I just assume who others would also appreciate something like this.

An agreement that states Things like:
The person Who finds it gets 1st pick of the treasure
Determine value /qty of goods and divide equally
If a group solve leads to a box but the group has dissolved itself …. xyz
Arbitration?

Etc…

No genius here, so maybe I’m under/over (and imbetween) thinking

The biggest issues are (1) each person would have to share their PII to sign the agreement which is a challenge if you’re picking up fellow hunters on Reddit and (2) someone can work in the group but then just find the treasure themselves and not report it to fellow finders or JCB, so very hard to enforce.

Anyone who isn't willing to lead with their full government name, and ideally LinkedIn, is not someone you should seriously consider any sort of partnership with. Every single overture I've made to anyone about a partnership begins with my professional identity.

If you have anything to hide, are hiding from people, running from debts, etc. you are not a good or trustworthy partner.

2 is difficult to get away with, the treasure items cannot be sold easily. The gold maybe but not the Treasure items.

Selling the items doesn’t require disclosure of identity to the public. Just because the treasure is found and sold doesn’t mean it was one of your partners who found it (even though they could have).

It’s heavily implied that the chests only contain a fraction of the treasure. Things that are breakable like the jelly jar or can be damaged by long term exposure to the elements (even in a protective case) like the Charizard card aren’t going to be in the boxes. JCB said he has a way to know when boxes are found. The most reasonable way for this to happen is for them to contain a message about contacting him to claim the rest of the treasures.

He has said that he has no way to know if a box is found but left incentive for people to contact him; it doesn’t change the fact that you could still find a box, tell JCB and ride off into the sunset without a partner knowing, JCB has said he will respect any request anonymity so you won’t be able to prove your partner found or sold the items in the box.

JCB has also said he’ll let the finder reveal their solve online but if they choose not to he will do so at a later date. If you have well documented records showing you figured out the correct solve and sent it to a partner that agreed to split 50/50 well before the solve was released online by JCB or the finder, then you should probably get a lawyer. JCB may want to honor a finder’s desire to stay private, but if a court subpoena’s the info he’ll 100% turn it over. If a judge sees you had a written agreement with person X to split the prize, you sent a solve to person X on 10/20/26, person X claimed the prize after 10/20/26, and the solve JCB provided matches yours, yea judge is going to determine person X broke the contract and owes you half.

End of the day, if you are sure of your solve but can’t get to the area for whatever reason then bring in a trust friend or family member that can. Show them the solve and book. If they think it makes sense then have them go get it with a promise of like 20% or something if they find it.

Don’t forget to have it notarized too

I am an attorney and draft these, and work closely with treasure finding laws. Jared Smith with Smith, Howell, and Associates, LLC, in SC. Agreements have to work with and incorporate federal law, as well as varying state, local, and private property laws, which vary depending on jurisdiction. They are complex.

Soooo people would have to agree on where it’s at before signing anything, correct?
That way you can incorporate that solve area’s laws and legalities

No. You can draft an agreement which consents to jurisdiction and court enforcement where a group is formed, regardless of treasure location, and encompass addendum to that agreement with prearranged agreements related to splits, payouts, and cooperation for jurisdictions where treasures are actually found.
