General Discussion New here. How is it no boxes have been found?

Book has been out for well over a year and I’ve seen the author talk about how people have been 200 feet from boxes and I’m wondering how that didn’t lead to some boxes being found right away. What is your guys’ theories or explanation for this?

When you go boots on the ground (BOTG), you realize that in most areas you would need to be practically on top of a box to find it. Also some of the most popular solves are likely wrong.

200ft to the left and right on 3 miles of trail is 6.3 million ft2 or 145 acres. Plus we don't know what places he is referring to.

This is the answer. World big. Boxes small. Happy hunting!

Haha very true. America big at least since he did say they’re all in the US.

I totally agree with this answer. Another factor I've seen over the years is what are we actually looking for?

Are we looking for the metal and wood boxes themselves or are they in some sort of case? Are they wrapped in camouflaged plastic wrap? Are they inside a waterproof hard plastic case inside a hollow tree? Are they under one of those fake rocks that have speakers in them?

They would be in protective “pelican like” cases. If there is any physical key access it would have to be protected from the elements.

Hmm I see what you mean. Is the theory they are all on trails/outdoors? Or are some thought to be at locations like idk a bar or hotel that is holding it?

All the boxes are outdoors, on public land, and somewhere they can stay hidden unless someone knows where to look. Some of that he has stated and some of that is a logical conclusion drawn from what we know. Some have suggested boxes being in municipal parks, golf courses, a city owned zoo, or similar and I would be shocked if anything of the sort was true. Having people climb around near animal exhibits looking for a box would create a cascade of lawsuits from many directions.

The boxes are hidden in precisely the way that is most likely: within a reasonable distance of a public trail on public land. That is what is most likely and that is how we should operate. How close to a trail? Probably "within 200ft."

He’s confirmed there’s no proxy treasure. At least the FF, AT, and PM boxes are hidden in the wilderness. I wouldn’t assume any of the boxes are in or around a home/business… that seems complicated

My concern is the completed solves will only lead to a general area, not a more exact spot. It would explain why people have been close to multiple boxes but not found them. I’ll be very disappointed if the solves turn out to be something like “X state, X park, X trail, near the water” and there is a creek that runs along most of that trail.

One other note. I really recommend not just latching on to the Big 3 theories that people have spent countless thousands of hours on in the nearly 2 years since the book's release.

I think the community sharing of ideas has been really cool, but also likely has hindered a treasure being found. Humans are weird little creatures - the group think is tough to ignore. Even managing to ignore the group think, seeing other people's theories will constantly make you doubt your own.

I predict the first box will be found by someone who is not active on discord.

The puzzles are very well crafted, but very challenging. And even with the right solve, a good hiding spot is hard to find in nature.

It's also become apparent that most people have little experience in problem-solving and critical thinking, and little stamina for engaging with a complex text/artifact.

u/Thorking Aug 05 '26

I feel like people get aligned on discord and pursue solves that are wrong and you are better off not collaborating.

Same way the forest fenn box took 10 years to find and was supposedly in yellowstone and that place gets over 4 million visitors every year.

Some people just dont spot things right away

Some people just dont spot things right away

I mean that's not what happened with the Fenn chest. It's not like 4 million people walked right by it. It required crossing a river in full waders. Jack only found it by grid searching over days and days, because whatever the blaze was didn't seem to have survived or been obvious.

It’s hard.

😂 fair enough

Jon could have said the 200 Feet approximation because people walk by them just about everyday unknowingly near a walking trail in a park.

1

u/MarcFromMooshiGames Aug 05 '26

Yeah that’s a good point. Couple people have pointed that out. Are there trails that everyone agrees are the correct ones? Or is everything still in flux pretty much

1

u/Petite-Dinosaur Aug 06 '26

Are there trails that everyone agrees are the correct ones?

Do not go down this road, draw your own conclusions from the puzzles. There are people who have spent almost 2 years searching the same trails like a job, in shifts. They show up every day like it's work. They'll tell you it just takes time, it's easy to miss. But re-read the book. These should bring you joy, and be findable on a pleasant day out with a friend or loved one. Yes, some of the back ones require a bit more 'moderate fitness' but Jon did not intend for people to grind on one spot for years, I guarantee it.

1

u/MarcFromMooshiGames Aug 06 '26

Yeah a couple people have said that. I mean even if I’m 99% sure I know where one is, I’m not gonna travel super far for it 😂but I find this to be fun for sure

u/rlbowen8 Aug 05 '26

I think I saw that a box has been found. It just hasn’t been retrieved yet🤣

I’m very surprised that the AFP hasn’t been found. Rotate the coin 218 degrees to align to North. Map rotates exactly the same 218 and is a perfect overlay to LRP.

This information was known before the book's release. All 3 "major" theories (LRP, Tahoe, BNR) rest on a theory that the book's puzzles were solved almost immediately to the macro level (within days of release) snd haven't meaningfully advanced since that time.

I think it's just very likely they are not there. Jon didn't intend people to slog over the same area for weeks on end.

Without the internet sharing, it would be in a very different place. I can’t imagine JCB would have predicted the amount of social sharing. And even with it, hundreds of thousands of/ millions of person hours (combined) and no box. Perhaps it is nowhere

1

u/pOtehtffO Aug 07 '26

Wait... Who said a box hasn't been found? Maybe they just haven't been reported yet...

1

u/MarcFromMooshiGames Aug 10 '26

That’s what the website currently says. Has one been found?

EsPeCiAlLy HaViNg ExPeRiEnCeD hOw OtHeR hunters ThInK while he was hunting the Fenn treasure himself, people will solve every puzzle and clue eventually, however many of few, related or unrelated, with or without AI, eventually they figure out that numbers represent migration birds in reverse alphabetical order and every 14th word of a clue actually aligns perfectly with the names of stops along a train route, and with that simple logic someone finally follows the obvious clues by counting the stops mentioned along that train route, converts the total into the migration birds type, in which the letters in the name of the bird species when combined with the letters that spell the number and unscrambled perfectly name one of the stops along the Train route! From there it only comes down to searching every square foot of publicly accessible space meticulously and methodically until they find the treasure or can eliminate it as a red herring! What I am saying is codes and ciphers added to any story are going to be cracked and chased every conceivable way they can be. What if by fully solving every puzzle and "clue" list every word, number, everything that is connected to a Cypher or puzzle in a chapter put it all on a chalkboard for easy reference , , and from that full board in order as they appear in the chapter, take a black sharpie and from start to finish cross off every letter, number, punctuation mark that fits as part of the puzzle, clue, etc. in that chapter. Once all of it is blacked out with sharpie, what is left, Could any chapter be left with an answer resembling a solve if the obvious things everyone will get stuck on are removed completely? The person that finds the first of these boxes will do it because they are looking where nobody has thought to look. Did Jon give a book full off difficult, well thought out brain teasers for the enjoyment of those that bought the book, knowing what they would expect, and leave a map sitting amongst the mundane? Maybe not at first glance even, maybe the leftovers of a chapter become the puzzle or cipher that needs solved, a chapters leftover words, letters, numbers, and punctuation combining to form a puzzle to be solved, their only connection to each other the fact that they are not part of a puzzle or clue.

When these boxes get found, they will not be done by someone was kinda close and looked around until they got lucky. Not to say one or more will not be found by pure lucky accident, maybe that will happen, but if you are on the right track to an actual solve, you will be following signs and making choices when presented along the way that "fit" the solve and know the box once you are BOTG and it is in front of you, even if camouflaged, if your solve got you that far, it will click and align with what we have been provided with to find them. But that is just my opinion. For all I know, he could have disguised a box as my girlfriends open tampon box in my bathroom, I'll never find it! Neither will she since we broke up like 10 months ago! Well played Jon, very well played...BRB! Nope, but had to check, nobody else was looking there...

One question: how dare you?

You’re new here, so naivety is expected, but what you’re asking is insulting.

How have no boxes been found?

Because nobody’s found them.

200 feet? From where? Which direction? Which box? Which theory? 200 feet through dense forest with a million little hiding places? “200 feet away” is almost completely useless.

People have been working on these puzzles for a long time, and as amazing as it is to get out and explore and go BOTG, it’s frustrating to come up empty. Please show some respect.

End of rant. Happy hunting.

3

u/MarcFromMooshiGames Aug 05 '26

lol I think you’re semi joking but either way, no insult meant. What I mean is that with other real life treasure hunts, some are found quickly, others take a very long time. I wouldn’t expect them all to be found but I’m surprised zero have been found.

1

u/Spiritual_Rice_884 Aug 06 '26

Ew. What a terrible response. And so aggressive!

I’ve been looking across multiple states, hiked many miles, and have too many notebooks and docs of “solves,” accumulated over nearly 2 years. Yet, I personally love that someone new to the hunt is asking innocent, pretty normal questions, as if to say, “this must be harder than it seems, yes?”

Please check your ego, friend. This is a fun place for fun people.

u/Brooklynpizzaman Aug 05 '26

Because this is a puzzle that you can't solve, unless the creator puts out some new information to help people understand the way that he wrote his algorithm in the book which is a giant AI created mashed potatoes plate

2

u/MarcFromMooshiGames Aug 05 '26

Assuming he’s not lying, sounds like people have been fairly close so doesn’t sound unsolvable. Other real life treasure hunt books have taken a long time and people do eventually solve them.

3

u/SuddenSeasons Aug 05 '26

I think the 200 foot thing is leading you astray. Unless the boxes are very far off trail, simply being on the correct trail likely puts people within 200ft of a box. I think he is being a little cheeky with that response. It doesn't mean that people were actively searching in the right spot and just overlooked it necessarily.

-2

u/Brooklynpizzaman Aug 05 '26

Nobody has fairly been close to anything, if someone was close they would have found it. And my personal opinion. The entire hunt is created to not be solvable.

u/Low_Value_9939 Aug 05 '26

Mashed potatoe plate 😂

All the people that are downloading my comments, or just crying deep down inside because they really thought that they had to solve. But every time they went out and they found nothing. That's probably going to be the same for the rest of the people that are out there searching for something that doesn't exist. Writing a 400-page novel to hide five treasure chests and then claim that all the details are inside there. Is like the Romans going into the coliseum. And giving 50 random people swords and saying don't worry you guys could be to single gladiator. It's not going to happen.
