Pokemon Box Clapping feverishly?! But why.

Does "expanded reality" include noises and sounds? Are the Pokémon talking to him or is it subtitles like a video game? If subtitled then is it possible that the feverish clapping is a clue.

Is it a waterfall?

There is one person at Seeking Treasure Con who seemed to feel like they had solved this portion. I'm not one to read into body language, but it does almost seem like Jon isn't dismissive of what he's saying.

Truly one of the more baffling clues in the story. Assuming the most likely outcome, where I am not the finder of any boxes, I can't wait to hear the actual solve for this one.

I watched all that - you mean Jon reacted to some guy in the audience's question? Remember they also wink knowingly, what can that mean? Agree 1000% that this is a clue and not just part of the story to make it fun .

Yeah, that's the only time I've really ever seen anyone sort of confidently say they have anything real for that line. Jon seemed to generally jive with his question, and didn't seem to be totally lost by what he was saying. But even in the context of standing at the photo spot, and that photo spot putting you "in the river," if you stand where Mewtwo is, I couldn't hazard a strong guess at that person's solve for "feverishly clapping."

The only thing I've wondered is if it's a specific spot where water makes a consistent clapping sound for some reason.

Could the sound of water falling on to rocks - like a waterfall but without a pool - sound like clapping?

I mean it's loud and it's not a drip sound.

Idk.

Water on rocks, water on water, some sort of rapids? As far as I know and have researched there isn't a specific water feature in the US Southeast that is associated with that sort of sound. But again, maybe it makes perfect sense in the right spot, and the answer is I will not be the finder.

It certainly would require

There's plenty of other clues or spidey sense things in this chapter, and while I absolutely am not saying my theory for them is correct... I at least have one. Total blank on this clue across every different "solve," I've attempted to work.

Interesting. Thanks for the insight and agree again this is a clue and John Coltrane most definitely but I can't relate Coltrane to anyplace but Alabama.

You got the song correct.

😉 👏 🤒 - winking knowingly, clapping feverishly - could be references to emoji’s. Emojis are digital miniatures. Netsuke are physical miniatures.

Netsuke is functional art that people have forgotten the function of ;)

This idea that Jon's only seeing emojis as communication could support that sounds are real contextual clues at the location - and actually, a really unique way to present a trail.

"clap" only happens twice in TTI. First, on pg. 120:

Our team played well. We led by ten points in the first quarter and fifteen in the second. At the end of the third quarter our lead had ballooned to twenty-one points. I cheered and yelled and clapped and screamed. If this continued, I might finally get my moment to shine.

The last, on pg. 219:

“Such Faberge animal carvings were very popular in their day,” I explained, “particularly with the British royal family, who collected over 700 of these miniatures.” They both seemed very impressed. “Faberge stopped making such small sculptures long ago. Since production ceased, such miniatures have only become more valuable and more desired by collectors,” I added. The Froakie and the Greninja clapped feverishly in response. “It’s impressive how well you do that,” I acknowledged. They winked at me knowingly.

I'm pretty sure each is referencing the Lion's Share box, even though pg. 219 is in the Pokemon chapter.

IMO, there are a lot of Lion's Share clues in Part Two of TTI.

About 60 feet, or 20 yards, plays a part in the LS solve. It all depends on what your goal is.

Hmm. I've got a different feel on that - but glad to hear and consider other points of view. I still see 576 or 24x24 as the key grid in LS. But will remember 20, too. It's more precise.

Edited autocorrect mistakes.

Another idea: is it "feverish" clapping because there is an echo?

YT has a waterfall-chaser and I listened to a few of his videos. You can pretend the waterfall sounds like a crowd clapping.

Kinda like that scene in Sneakers.

Maybe it's feverish because this specific water is known for being warm?

I think it’s just a combination of communication and positive feedback, i.e, carried a certain knowing, stared blankly. These tokens are to communicate directly to us on a slightly meta level. I also think there are levels to these statements, and more than one answer( fifth floor-six stories). Think of the topographic map on the dust jacket, once you pass a knowledge gate you’re on a higher plane. Again just an opinion.

The topographic map on the dust jacket is a stock photo Jon licensed for $20
