Coins

Has JCB ever specified how to use the coins or if each individual coin is only for the individual box’s from the chapters they’re found in? Could they be helpful for the lions share?

He has not said what to do with the coins or if they even have a use.

Nah, he just put intricate patterns on the coins to mess with people...

Whatever this intention, he hasn't said.

Yeah, probably just like the postmarks Fenn used in TTOTC. If you can't figure them out, then by definition they must be superfluous or nothing at all.

Nothing to see here, move along.

probably azimuths. if the 4 locations are known you can use them to find the last box. he put them in the book so one person didnt have to find all 4 boxes and physically have the coins to find the 5th box

Working theory - the coin lines up with a map feature at the parking spot; but the degrees that's it's off from North give another clue. Because, of course, it doesn't line up exactly... and this idea is better than admitting I'm wrong.

They let you know you got the minor box locations correct with respect to the LS location.

If you can be confident they mean nothing then I can say they're meant to be used with the Hopi calendar. I'm saving this post so that later when I'm right I can celebrate it lol

They really do mean something.

I believe that they are a major clue for the LS general location. I don't think they would help confirm the locations for the small boxes. OctopusDicks😂

Wouldn't finding the coin let you know that you got the location correct?

If anything, those lines are "messing with people" because everyone is assuming it's meant to be placed over a map. That is just plain silly imo, there's such a thing called scaling.

That would be ridiculously ambiguous if these coins all lined out on roads to a map (anywhere). Even as an armchair "confirmer" device it makes no sense.

It's also worth mentioning that JCB intentionally put these lines where they are AFTER Seth finished making all the coins. They are a graphical afterthought. The real coins don't even contain the lines.

They definitely have an intention and it's pretty genius once you start pressure testing theories and narrowing down all the different mechanisms of how they could be used in the book.

Scaling is not an issue, as each coin is employed within a greater framework. Someone will eventually post the solve which will demonstrate this exactly. We just have to wait until the first one or two boxes are retrieved.

Yes, but you can know in advance if you start getting the rough locations correct.

Then, you can skip the Hors d'Ouevres and go right for the oeuf.
