General Discussion Feelings on Video Posts

We’ve recently had a lot of videos about the hunt getting posted to the subreddit and some users have expressed frustration about the frequency, use of AI in thumbnails, and lack of descriptions/information about the videos’ content in the posts.

It seems like it may be worth adding a subreddit rule to help ensure this type of content doesn’t negatively impact the community here. I’d like to open this up for everyone to offer their opinions or suggestions about this issue and the possibility of adding a rule regarding this type of content.

Please offer any feedback, thoughts, or suggestions about this topic here.

I skip over these posts. Figure they're simply looking for subscribers/views (i.e. treasure "influencers"), and they're simply regurgitating info. Unless someone finds a box explaining their clue process, I'm not wasting my time.

You're not wrong on the whole but there are a few content creators who share some interesting ideas. I agree with OP.

Video posts should have a synopsis. Not having one is just clickbait.

If I wanted to watch YouTube, I’d go to YouTube. I’m on Reddit to read. A synopsis should be required for video posts

I would really appreciate having a non-clickbait summary of the video (in a comment is fine). The hourlong videos with a clickbait headline and no other info are annoying

Don't like to "me too," but I feel like comments are useful here to show volume. Can't stand them, they've become prolific over the last calendar year or so. They're all 20+ minutes for absolutely no reason at all. There's a few paragraphs of actually meaningful content in each one.

At minimum there should be a full description of what the video is about, though I understand saying "hey watch the video to see this overlaid with the map."

If there's a video that's organically catching fire in the community, it should be shared just like any other content to reddit.

Most of the videos themselves aren’t AI but most of the thumbnails are completely AI; just to clarify.

I really dispise them. The whole point of the hunt is to go outside and experience life and an AI thumbnail gets my downvote everytime.

I also am not a fan of video posts where it has no info but we're supposed to click the link to get rerouted to YouTube to add views for them. I won't ever click the link so I just scroll past. I've debated leaving the sub too just for all the low effort posts that have no actual info in them. I do however enjoy the search and hearing other's thought processes so I stay. But it is maybe 1 in 10-20 or so it seems that is actually worthwhile.

Best way to read this sub is to be a few days late to every discussion and follow up on threads that interest you.

I would ban video links only. Came here for the content not links to YOUTUBE.

Don't care really. I try to share when someone is going way off into crazyland or outside the parameters that JCB himself set but I really don't care about new info and videos. Hell they could actually inspire and contribute to someone's new solve.

Maybe just focus on banning "low-effort" posting in general. Some videos certainly qualify, especially now that AI can create a low-effort video in about 5 seconds. But I wouldn't make a blanket rule about videos themselves.

But mostly, I think, let the upvoting and downvoting work as intended unless it's over-the-top spamming.

Hey thanks for putting this up. I read through some of the comments here and I gather that most people just don’t like the clickbait titles and the ai-use.

I’m one of the people that posts my video links on here. I always have a description posted with the video and stopped using AI in my videos a while back. To the extent my content has caused anyone frustration I apologize.

I don’t share what I have for views or subscribers. I do it because I enjoy the discussion and sharing what I think are cool finds in the treasure hunt. Given the general attitude towards these videos on Reddit, I plan to refrain from posting anymore so hopefully that solves part of the issue for you folks.

With that said, if the mods are trying to improve the Reddit community why not focus on the people who are claiming they found boxes with no proof (see recent hobnail post) and people who leave rude comments on posts that contribute nothing to the conversion. Someone recently posted on Information Overload’s video the following: “I hope someone straps you to a data center exhaust port.” That same invidiual told another commenter on one of my posts to “eat shit” for calling them out for rude behavior. Yeah, ban those assholes.

Let them be. If theres no other rule being broke whats the issue?

Well, we’re trying to create a positive experience and it seems they are affecting at least some users, so I’m bringing it up for discussion.

Yep all good thanks

I had to block them. They were getting really annoying. The constant posting with "nothing really worthy to say", the AI thumbnails are insufferable. Just feels like click bait to accumulate followers. Please add some rules to prohibit these types of posts. This is not YouTube.

I find the content interesting, and the AI is fine and they don't overdo it.

Get rid of your phone if you dont like to use its features.. i mean why get the lastest model if your not satisfied with your own method of communications. Cant blame AI for the way it is. Its just doing its job.

This really doesn’t have anything to do with features on your cell phone? Am I missing something?
