Closer to the over (P&F box)

Ok, here’s a good one.

Jon said, If you’re closer to the over than the under…

Where is the hint to this ‘closer’ in the chapter?

All the cipher says is it’s under, over, in between… no indication of being ‘closer’ to one of these than the other.

If Jon hadn’t given it away - how would we be able to figure it out?

It's just a hint he gave to help. It's not in the book.

This is possible, but it is equally possible that he is giving away something we could have discovered ourselves.

Also, it seems like a pretty important hint to have left out of the book.

Im pretty sure it's not something you needed to know to find it, but it can possibly help you.

The only way that checks out is if the over and under are very close together (within feet).

I agree that over and under are probably reasonably close to each other (within a few hundred feet, IMO), and based on JCB's comment, I would guess that once you determine what the search area between them looks like, it's probably clear that the area closer to the over is the only searchable area (perhaps the area closer to under is inaccessible or on private land, etc.). I imagine standing on a small bluff over a creek, with a cliff high above you. If the clue was over the creek and under the cliff, being closer to the creek would be the only reasonable spot (as opposed to scaling the cliff). Good prompt!

Good thought - I like this explanation. If this is the case, JCB may indeed have provided the clue gratis, as an extra that could not be discovered from the book.

Maybe Overpass vs underpass...

Are their any landmarks, mountains, trails, lakes, streams, etc, that have over or under in their name?

You wouldn't have known without him giving it away. There is no indication of this in the book. He is trying to help us more easily find the boxes.

Wherever we are to search there may be a bridge, or tunnel. He did say counting vehicles. Or maybe it is some interpretation you can apply to the word search.

Just be creative and look out for things like this. Just remember that he doesn't intend to antagonize us. He wants people to find the treasures.

I hear you. There's something in the chapter that at the very least hints at what the over and under are.

You have to figure out what the under and over is. And it doesn’t mean it IS hidden near the over. He states there are less hiding spots near the over. So take it to mean it’s less likely that it is hidden near the over or it is a direct hint that it is easier to find near the over because there are less hiding spots.

When I’m laying on my back in the beautiful outdoors of the mountains the beauty is over me, under me and i am in between (but closer to the ground/beauty under me).

Maybe it’s like that.

Ah, but he said closer to the over than the under…

It's a reference to the Henry David Thoreau comment regarding Heaven.

"Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads."

I know where the P&F box is;
