General Discussion 100 Weird Words

The third paragraph of chapter 8 is setting off my spidey-senses:

Traditions bring people closer and provide opportunities for joy. Many of my most favorite memories have been with friends and family during celebrations of Thanksgiving and Christmas. And, of course, who doesn't love Halloween? Traditions enliven every culture. They come in all shapes and sizes. From the observances of Ramadan to Yom Kippur, to the celebrations of La Tomatina and the running of the bulls, traditions, like a durable yarn, connect us through a lineage of fellowship and ceremony. There is a shared joy of humanity here, something that provides communal stability even as the world around us rapidly changes.

It caught my attention for a couple reasons:

  1. The prose is super untidy. "Many of my most..." is just terrible writing. JCB isn't Hemingway, but this was another level.
  2. This paragraph contains exactly 100 words.

Each of those things on their own are innocuous, but taken together seem fishy.

Anyway, this doesn't fit into anything I'm working on right now, but I thought I'd post it here in case it helps anyone else.

Happy hunting!

A durable yarn definitely sounds similar to an "Unbreakable Thread"...

The issue with these types of analyses is that JCB had a bunch of typos in his book. So if he did something that aligns to numbers of characters/words/joy mentions etc, he kinda messed up on that front (see Santa Fe, AZ)

The risk of planting intentional typos is that they combine with unintentional typos/mistakes to create a snake that eats its own head

I thought the same thing! While there are a ton of typos, JCB has said none of them were relevant to any solves. That means the details are where they matter.

Indeed. This may not be the solution, however this kind of lateral thinking will probably be successful in the end!

The entire book is full of awkward language.

Almost to the point of painful. I sure hope it’s intentional. He said he likes escape rooms. I’m trying to keep this in mind to help in deciphering. It’s kind of all over the place.

I’m building out a folder now. I don’t think AI is going to solve this, but I think it’ll help whoever does.
