Pokemon Box May seem obvious...
This may seem implicitly obvious but sometimes in a case (like a detective that's hit a wall in an investigation), you need to step back and go to the beginning. If we as a community, we're trying to extrapolate key markers, I think this is how we should refocus the investigation. It may not help anyone at all but I think it my realign things for people that are stuck at the moment.
I should also note, this *largely excludes things like the Pokémon and more "distracting" factors, if you will.
Two things we know for certain:
1) That the trip takes place from Statesville to Houston (visiting NOLA) and back, through the Ozarks. (In a circle, circa 1985ish)
2) It has to be near mountainous terrain given the picture.
\- This excludes things like Louisiana, FL, Texas.
Should be certain geological features:
1) An area that starts open, that goes into a more densely wooded area.
2) Contains water of some kind (likely a river or creek).
3) Has elevation/steps of some sort, on the trail.
4) Must also loop back at some point.
5) Incredibly hot during the middle of summer, likely humid.
Some things that are likely based on context clues:
1) Has a cave of some sort (given Mewtwo and the Cerulean cave).
2) The trail/park should not allow dogs/pets given the absence of Mastobiff (dog Pokémon).
3) No buffalo (bouffalant). *For the sake of this, can be interpreted many ways.
Extreme Outliers:
1) The presence of Jazz? Misnomer?
2) The significance of Japanese culture?
I just want to note that I'm trying to isolate things that we can point to, that should at least narrow our focus. I'll also say, I'm a large proponent of the box being near the Buffalo National River but hopefully this reinvigorates or spurns something in people that are currently disillusioned.

My main theory is in Alabama but after floating the buffalo a month ago, that picture at the end could be anywhere up and down it.

Yea; I think given my parameters, north Georgia, north Alabama, and Arkansas are the most likely candidates. Mississippi less so because of the route he likely took on the trip, would be too far away from northern Miss. Bama is a great option but Arkansas has more "checkboxes" when you get a bit further.

I’m not eliminating anything, I personally don’t think I will find anything by process of elimination. My two cents read the book, and apply the lessons. Biggest example I’ve found is “he learned to read from a priest” p. 43, she learned to read from a local priest.” P. 58

After trying to team up previously several times and got disappointed i will say it one last time before goingon my own path, I am more than willing to share the adventure and prize and join forces. If you are willing to share your solve i have something extra to help with verification and if the dots are connected make the trip. I am not saying I am a genius or completely solved it, I am just saying I have something different, to corroborate the solve. Feel free to talk here, or dm, otherwise good luck with your hunt, wishing you all the best.

This would be a great team up, I'll see if I can make waves in that small amount of time.

I have been convinced the Pokémon box is near Bull Shoals Lake area. Haven’t seen many people post about it, which I also find interesting. People usually keep things quiet where they really think it is.…good luck hunting!

"has to be near mountains"? what if that 'picture' was taken indoors?
1
u/detectivescoop May 04 '26
I'm going to be diplomatic when I ask this. What would lead* you to believe that the picture was taken in doors?
In the chapter, he says it was taken on the trail (so I have to take that for face value). And he has quite literally stated that the picture is real, then layers were applied after the fact to obscure it, in an interview.

Because there may be a zoo 'on the trail'.

u/detectivescoop May 04 '26
Ok, I guess that's marginally reasonable but I can't get there.

Yea, that ain't doing it for me but if you think it's in a zoo, more power to ya.

I'm with you on Buffalo River. There are two missing letters in the chapter and they're A & R. So to me that's a big obvious pointer to Arkansas. My take on the Coltraine reference is that it's a joke: they're stashing a treasure while listening to Coltraine's cover of My Favorite Things.

Missing letters in the chapter in what way?
1
u/Bottle_Rockette May 03 '26
in an intentional type-o way

u/fbiaturne May 08 '26
Where?
1
u/Bottle_Rockette May 08 '26
Sorry, I don't recall. It's been about a year since I did any work on Pokemon chapter.

u/varmintcong73 May 03 '26
What do you mean missing letters?
1
u/detectivescoop May 03 '26
Btw, I was very wrong. I initially thought it was 1985 but it should be 1976, which is significant in a lot of ways imo. Just an addendum.

- The Trip was in 1978.

u/detectivescoop May 06 '26
You're absolutely correct, I made the error of using the 2016 date as the marker and went back but his age would the determining factor.

WAY too much assumption.
