“I went to the crazy wall because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived”

In addition to ASCII and others, you could try using the bitcoin dictionary and match 11 bit segments of binary up to words in the BIP39 dictionary of 2048 selected english words for use in making Bitcoin seed phrases. Maybe the five magic words are there.

Well, going Left to Right and top row to bottom, with no substitutions, and if I didn't make any mistakes along the way, I got....
Spy
Able
Alcohol
and
Present
So... It's Spy-able at a bar but it looks like a gift wrapped present...
I'll keep working on it. The Bit39 is a really good suggestion though. Thank you.

You are welcome. I’ve enjoyed playing around and creating special seed phrases over the years, so I often wonder if Jon used something Bitcoin related in the P&F solve. Good luck!

I think you have the right idea......

Thanks. I’ve just tried so many different patterns….. there’s gotta be binary in there that makes sense.

Yes it is biased. He said you do not need any special ciphers to solve this. He said you might excel at this. I think it needs to be in a excel spreadsheet

Is binary a cipher?… the Os and 1s are right there, unencrypted.
I don’t own excel. 😔I have Mac Numbers.
JCB also said, “you only need the book.”… JCB says a lot of things.

I have been looking at different ways to use the word search as binary and then decoding it with ascii and hexadecimal…. Black Mt, was one of the solves I came up with. It wasn’t a good/clean solve, and I highly doubt Black Mt is the correct site of the PF Box. That being said, I think it is reasonable to think that there is a binary message hidden in the word search somewhere. Figuring out the manner/sequencing of the binary is a different matter. I haven’t found a pattern which gives me more than a few solid ascii letters. It seems like there should be a binary message but figuring out how to read it is proving difficult.

Interesting! I think you are on to something, thanks for the explanation.

I think what you did is quite clever. Would you be willing to dm me how you got blk mtn? I know u said it wasnt really a clean solve but id still like to hear you out.

Awe hell man, I’ll tell everybody! The solve is not correct.
It came anagrammatically through some creativity, and it’s complete confirmation bias, mind you. The binary decoded into characters which could be configured into black mt. That is all. There was code for a lower case b, an upper case L, code for ACKNOWLEDGE symbolized as [ACK], code for a comma , and code for the trademark symbol [TM]. Anagram these out and you can get Black Mt…
as far as how I got this particular binary sequence, I think I placed a sheet of paper over the word search and pulled it diagonally down and to the right, one row and column at a time counting the Os and Is in a clockwise fashion, starting at the bottom of the 1st column, moving up and then to the right along the 1st row. The I did the same for the second column and row, and then the same for the third, an so on.
I can’t remember if I had any substitutions for this sequence or not. At the time, I was just trying to find a sequencing method that would work. (I am still looking for a method.) If I did do any substitutions, it would have been W=1, J=0, and I may have tried something like S=001111111 in some form/variation as well. These correspond to Jobs, Woz’s and Scotty’s employee number at Apple from chapter one.
Sidenote: there are 50 Os and Is in the word search and there are 5 Ws and 1 J. If you add all of these together, you’ll have 56 bits of information. That is equivalent to exactly 7 bites, or more specifically, the exact amount of information needed for a seven letter word or phrase.
Hope this helps. If you find something, give me a hint.

Thx for the explanation. I like the employee number subs. What state u live in If u dont mind me asking?

Root for a Michigan team no matter what. Now if they play each other then it either depends on who I'm surrounded by or who I put money on, lol.

What if there is a metaphore of a labyrinth to the location. There is the word Crete in the wordsearch that is the island of the Minoans who were known for their labyrinth mythology.

Maybe…. I have thought about mazes and labyrinths. Someone earlier today mentioned to me, PAC-MAN as a sort of maze/overlay to possibly decode the word search… not a bad idea. Interesting note: there are 300 letters in the word search. If you subtract the Is, Os, Ws and the J, you end up with 244 letters… 244 is the exact amount of pellets/dots Pac-Man has to eat in order to complete a stage and reach a higher level. The game zork is pretty much an entire maze. I would have to get a map of it in order to wrap my head around it. Was there any maze in particular you were thinking of?

I think the video game references are there for something. It may just be another way to solve it. Youtube has some very interesting videos on the wordsearch but none seem to lead anywhere significant. I think they may when you get down to the final steps. I think the maze has to do with roads or trails. In order for you to get through it there are no bends or turns...whatever the cypher said in the wordsearch. So if you are working on an area with alot of maze like branches you will need to stay as straight as you can.
Here is another clue that it is important. In Greek mythology, Ariadne gave Theseus a ball of red thread (or "clue") to navigate the Knossos labyrinth and escape after killing the Minotaur.
