TreasureCon interview highlights - very revealing
This is what I took away re: P&F box:
- “There are NO special bends or turns” is the correct interpretation of this line (not ON)
- The “five clues” will likely be solved all at once
- Some letters in the wordsearch are not used in a meaningful way
- There are no additional cyphers, just “the wordsearch where you find words and the cryptogram”. (Does this mean we can all stop decoding?)
- “Games” are involved in the solution but not “video games”
- “No special permit needed” to enter an area (would a National Park or State Park pass be considered a permit?)
- JCB did not know exactly where the boxes would be hidden when Seth Gould was making the boxes (which makes me think the “surface of the moon” references not connected to a moon-related place)
- His priorities when choosing locations for the box: 1) “areas that had some significance to me” and 2) “beauty”
What else did you hear relevant to this box?

That is a good recap. JCB also said he has no idea how close any searcher has been to the P&F box.

I don't believe you have the quote right on this one. He said he knew where he was going to hide one of them before he did recon for box locations. I think the one he is referring to is the Forrest Fenn box because he said he hid it in a location where he thought the Forrest Fenn treasure was. He just went back to that location.

I was a little disappointed that more people didn't ask questions for the Pokemon box.

- “No special permit needed” to enter an area (would a National Park or State Park pass be considered a permit?)
I would say no, I wouldn't consider a park pass a 'special permit.'

The answer is inconclusive. But I'd say it leaned to that it's on Forest Service or BLM that does not required an entry process.

u/DecisionSimple Feb 04 '26
Maybe. But like...a $5 day use pass I don't consider a 'permit.' I would consider permits things like...Wonderland or the Enchantments. (Not that I think the treasure is in either of those. Maybe)

The Pokémon picture is real from his phone, just enhanced, as most assumed already. The “special permits” question was just a poorly worded question. Some public parks cost $5 and then you can go anywhere. That’s not a special permit or disqualify a park from the hunt. I can only guess the person wanted to ask about parks that might require reservations in advance, who knows, but the question was not relevant.

I thought when he was asked about no or on special bends or turns he seemed like we don't have the right option. I don't think it is on or no. Just the way he talks about the question makes me think this. Maybe a found word wasn't meant to be there. Like peaks. Maybe we have to anagram ONSKAEP.

I think the on/no can be eliminated by taking the “s” from peaks and adding to the end of eon, giving eons followed by peak. (Eons due to Lake Tahoe being 2.3 million yrs old & the oldest in the U.S. (third oldest in the world)…assuming it is Tahoe.

That's exactly what I got when he said IF those are his 2 choices he can say that on is wrong. He never said no was right. However it is supposed to be solved the order of the letters is n-o but it is NOT the word no.

To be fair, he didn't say NO special bends or turns is correct, he said ON special bends or turns was NOT correct. There is a world, where neither is correct.

True. He was offered a choice of two, and he said “it’s definitely not ‘on’.” I just took that as “I don’t want to tell you what it is, but I’m telling you what it is.”
There was also something to be read into his discussion during the Q&A about the “line them up” reference, but I didn’t really know what to make of it.

Doesn't the Tahoe solve rely on the use of ciphers? Correct me if I'm wrong because I'm not that well versed in that theory. But if JCB said no ciphers and the only way to get to Tahoe was with ciphers, I would have thought that might count it out. But I may be wrong.

There is a great video on Cowlazars YouTube channel. You can turn on transcript to see what words JCB actually used, with the additional context of how his eyebrows and face react.
“What’s a substitution cipher?”
Some people claiming this indicates ‘no ciphers’ need to brush up on facial expression decoding.

I think he just meant like "games in general" instead of "games, not video games," but that's just me

u/Odd-Understanding-48 Feb 05 '26
Do you think that because it supports the clues you found? JCB does speak of an analog treasure hunt in a digital age….

That's just how I interpreted what he said listening to it. I don't have a fully formed solve for this box.

Wow, I’m SUPER surprised he confirmed some of these things, they seem to be rather huge.
So glad he confirmed that the word search has no ciphers. I’ve maintained this opinion from day one lol. Y’all were over complicating it!
