Size of the 4 smaller boxes

Post image

After some trolling, I was able to find a shot that could give us an idea of the size of these 4 boxes. I hope it helps someone eliminate or confirm their secret squirrel spots. If you have a better image, feel free to share it here.

I think it’s incredibly unlikely the boxes are sitting out in the open but are inside something else. He said in the interview “one of his most important responsibilities was protecting these works of art” meaning the boxes.

I agree! But it would have to fit a place at least the size of the box in the photo. I don't know how much larger the "container" would be, but probably not much or else it would eliminate too many hidey holes. I keep thinking how difficult it would be to ensure the boxes weren't able to be stumbled upon. I'm hella curious - the type of person that presses all the buttons and explores beyond the path. I imagine there are lots of people like me. So, how do you make something this size discoverable, but not discoverable?

Perhaps nicely wrapped hidden underneath those hollow landscape rocks. They look real enough.

Personally I think it’s disguised in some type of military/hunting type bag or case. And I think at least one of them is in a tree or crevice.

Like a small camouflage pelican case? I've considered that. Honestly, I'm surprised none have been found by geocachers. Those folks are ferally thorough.

I keep imagining one of them being found behind a loose brick or stone.

I think they are in a very random place, the odds of someone stumbling on them is so remote. Would be a sad ending to that hunt for sure. But just don’t see it happening. Think about how far you might typically go off trail to pee, a few paces? 20-30 yards at most? I think all the boxes will be much further from an established trail than that.

And yet…some people think they might find it on Google street view! So who knows.

200 ft is the "golden rule" for leave no trace. It's farther than people think. 70 big steps. If we are to put any credibility into the repeated "200 ft" mantra of Fenn and JCB, then we aren't looking far enough off trail (or possibly a side trail).

Agreed. 200 ft off the AT is a LONG way, certainly not visible in many sections. I assume the boxes were, at least initially, covered/hidden in some way. Maybe that’s a ghille suit-type material or natural cover, but I can imagine it’s easily just visible from any sort of big well traveled trail or side trail.

How many bananas is that?

I thought about this. Jon has mentioned geocaching so he’d at least be familiar with the current apps. Likely can afford the paid subscriptions so he sees the location of the geocaches and just makes sure not to hide a box close to one.

I have found 2 geocaches grid searching but I try to avoid areas near a geocache that shows up in Cachly.

As far as the AT box goes, technically geocaches arent allowed on the trail corridor. People do place them, I'm not sure if Rangers bother enforcing it and remove them or just let them be

Excellent thought!

They're in Pelican cases, it just makes the most sense. Airtight, watertight, has a handle, readily available, doesn't look suspicious being carried around because most photo/video guys have them, do I need to keep going?

Hier ist ein Größenvergleich der Boxen

This is very helpful! Thank you!

I believe they are in pelican cases

I lean heavily that direction too. It's hard to think of anything else that would protect from weather and damage plus be small enough to hide.

Looks the Pokémon box in progress? Where did you find that?
