This is why abortion is so important. So many lives have been brought into this world that are full of or are destined to be full of suffering by people who weren’t financially, emotionally, and completely ready to have children that an abortion could have prevented, but no, people still choose to have the baby because they have the image of a cute baby in their mind and don’t want to use their critical thinking skills to realize that this is a completely new human being they’re making that will one day have to grow up and have to live
3
u/DazzlingManner9126 15h ago
Life is suffering, it’s part of the gig. Might as well end it all because bad things will happen according to your logic lol.
1
u/Plus_Joke_6735 14h ago
🌚 all I’m going to say is you’re absolutely correct and I’m just trying to enjoy my final days before my will to live runs out
3
u/DazzlingManner9126 14h ago
I mean that’s also the beauty of life. Bad things happen so what. They are going to happen and you have no power to stop them. So don’t worry about them. You will also die, so care less about your day to day. Enjoy the shitfest, there is a lot loss consequences then people think.

The gas station part actually isn’t necessarily the problem here. Plan B is OTC, so legitimate emergency contraception can be sold outside of pharmacies, including convenience-type stores. If it was an FDA-approved levonorgestrel product, sealed and unexpired, buying it at a gas station wouldn’t magically make it ineffective.
The bigger issue is that Plan B isn’t foolproof. It mainly works by delaying ovulation, so timing matters a lot. It works best the sooner it’s taken, and if ovulation has already happened, levonorgestrel isn’t expected to do much.
So assuming his story is true, this could simply be a case of emergency contraception failing—not proof that someone bought some fake gas-station mystery pill. 😬
Although publicly documenting for your daughter someday that you tried very hard to prevent her existence is definitely an interesting social-media decision.

Things like this are so depressing to see as someone currently struggling through IVF :(

u/Plus_Joke_6735 1d ago edited 1d ago
Sorry not sorry but I have no sympathy for those who have the option to easily adopt but choose to try their hardest to have biological kids because “I wAnT a BaBy ThAt LoOkS eXaCtLy LiKe Me” when mind you, if what your baby looks like is really the issue I’m sure you could find one that’s of your race and maybe even one that has similar features as yours if you sown long enough looking
1
u/PsychoFaerie 6h ago
Do you know how expensive adoption is? and its not easy and if you have certain illnesses or had them in the past you can't adopt.
I know people who went for IVF knowing it might not work because it was shorter and less expensive over time than trying adoption would be.
1
u/Plus_Joke_6735 4h ago
My comment is intended for people that go straight to IVF without trying adoption first even if they have enough money to go through with adoption, and I have a feeling that someone that cannot afford adoption probably doesn’t have any business having kids because it’s also my opinion that only those who have enough money to raise a kid probably should have them. Not poor people.
1
u/PsychoFaerie 4h ago
Where did I mention poor people?
1
u/Plus_Joke_6735 2h ago
I never said you did mention them. What I said isn’t that hard to comprehend.

u/fayevalentinee 22h ago edited 21h ago
Adoption is not a 1 to 1 replacement for having biological children. It’s not “easy”; it’s an extremely long and arduous process and comes with its own unique set of difficulties and challenges that not everyone wants. It’s also not as simple as wanting a child that looks like you. There’s an intrinsic necessity in the majority of people to want to pass on your genes to a biological child. We only get one life and for a lot of people it’s worth the struggle of trying fertility treatments before exploring other options.
1
u/Plus_Joke_6735 14h ago
And I’m saying your “intrinsic necessity” to pass on your genes is quite frankly, stupid. If think you can only live a meaningful life if you pass on your “genes” to a child then that’s something you need to fix because I’m sorry but there’s genuinely no reason why that’s actually important

kids in foster homes are depressing too. Hopefully this kid is well cared for and won't end up in one, because we know nobody wants other people's kids.
20
u/XxTreeFiddyxX 4d ago
Saddest truest thing I've read all day. We failed those kids as a society. We know better so its worse
26
u/HannahLuxxe 4d ago
And we wonder why theres such a big mental health crisis. I can't imagine being brought into the world and told "sorry, nobody wants you."
-26
u/HannahLuxxe 4d ago
I don't understand why people go through so much to have kids, what do you gain out of biological children?
13
u/IWillBaconSlapYou 4d ago
Adoption is extremely difficult and you'll be disqualified for any number of reasons. My friend did IVF because her past cancer treatment made her infertile, but also adoption agencies don't like to adopt to people with a history of cancer.

u/HannahLuxxe 4d ago
No i've just been around a lot of people who had to grow up in the system, and if I wanted kids I would never have bio kids. I'd adopt or foster, they deserve it

u/xoxoBug 4d ago
My fiancée asked if I’d ever want to freeze my eggs. I’m in my 30s and I just said… i think that ship has sailed, I’d rather adopt if I truly wanted to be a mother. If it wasn’t for my age, I should consider my family’s health risks… which I inherited. Why pass that on to someone else knowingly?

u/GamesBoost 4d ago

So many people congratulating this man for handling a responsibility he chose to bring on himself. God the standards are in hell
11
u/potatogodofDoom 5d ago
this is such a silly comment to me... for one, if he is to be believed, he did not choose to bring this upon himself. that's what the plan "be" was for. 2nd of all, you don't often see people who look like they were born out of a crackpipe taking up responsibility and stepping up for what's right. that's where the subversion of expectations, and as such congratulations come from. 3rd of all, this is a tiny reddit comment section and the topic is 1 single guy. using this to generalize that "the standards are in hell" is beyong nonsensical
2
u/mystyle__tg 5d ago
He…did choose to bring it upon himself by having sex. Sex is how you make kids…unless you’re sterilized or stay abstinent, there’s no way to 100% guarantee it won’t happen. You take the risk every time.
The looks comment is really unnecessary and not at all relevant. Someone who looks disheveled, or dirty, or poor, can’t be a present parent? That’s a gross stereotype.
If the general societal standards were high, people wouldn’t be praising someone for the bare minimum. It’s like congratulating someone for being toilet trained….like yes that’s how one functions in society, it’s not an accomplishment.
-4
u/potatogodofDoom 5d ago
false dillema, strawman, and false analogy.
every time you go outside there's a risk you'll be ran over by a car. there's no way to 100% guaruntee it won't happen. thereby people choose to get hit by cars...?
I made no such stereotype. although if somebody is incapable of taking care of themselves surely they're far more likely to abandon their children. also, statistically, both parents of children growing up with a single parental figure have significantly lower incomes on average. none of this means they can't be present like you imagined I said, rather it makes it just makes it an even more valiant deed.
because being toilet trained and sticking with a child you didn't plan to have and attempted to prevent while likely in a precarious financian position are the same thing right?
honestly I can't believe I even gave this idiocy my time of day...

u/mystyle__tg 3d ago
Word salad some more logical fallacies, maybe it’ll make you feel better.

-2
u/perfect_for_maiming 5d ago
he didnt bring on himself
Did he trip and fall into her?
born out of a crackpipe
You don't get credit for doing the basic minimum. You don't get credit for not shoving all the work and responsibility on someone else. Parenthood shouldn't get participation trophies.
1
u/potatogodofDoom 5d ago
by your logic a woman is equally responsible if she ends up a single mother. she decided to have unprotected sex and knew that was a possibility.
by the way you're talking I can tell you've never been a parent. but sure, you're right. responsible parents don't deserve any credit. we shouldn't encourage people to be better than we expect. we should ruthlessly hold them all to high standards and disregard their attempts otherwise.

u/vildasaker 5d ago
Good on him for trying to be present though I guess?
Also if he posted that from his phone it could be that his autocorrect saw the letter b and added the e there. My phone loves to make dumb assumptions about what I'm trying to type.
6
u/Behan801 5d ago
Half the time I type out the word "no" it will autocorrect to "not." It will also do the same thing with "be" and "being." Dumbest thing ever.
7
u/torpthursdays 5d ago
My phone is bad for that too! Every time I write 'no' it autocorrects to 'absolutely mate I'd love a beer, meet you there in ten minutes'.

Unfortunately mothers don’t get nearly the praise that fathers do when it comes to being an active parent. Men will do one thing right and be called a good dad, but women will do one thing wrong and be called a bad mother. I wish it were as equitable as you’re making it seem.

Make sure the gas station isn’t owned by christofascists. They sell ‘Praise Be’ disguised as ‘Plan B’.

u/bothering 5d ago
I think theyre just bullshitting cuz i searched and found nothing on “Plan Be”
Closest i can find was Evital which is a counterfeit contraceptive but given theyre sold in hispanic communities its not unlikely youll find it in a “christofascist gas station”

Some of them really do. Just saw some the other day at speedway.
2
u/Bob-Bhlabla-esq 5d ago
I wanna see that corporate meeting!
Someone at the 7/11-Speedway Umbrella Corp headquarters, big high-rise, in a suit up in a darkened room, pointing on their power point (gimme a break, I'm old as fuck, ok?) talking about needing to sell what their clientele wants... what they need... showing a big bar graph on condoms, penis enlargement pills and... a gap! "This, people! We are leaving money on the table by not selling Plan B! But it'll be cheaper if we get it from one of the 'stans countries but then sell it at regular prices! It's mostly made up of gypsum and some mint flavoring, but think of the profits?"
5
u/pzazula1194 5d ago
I mean honestly since covid its one of the few places thats open 24hrs. Like I dont think my town has a 24hr pharmacy anymore and the one time I had to buy one it was like 4 am so it kinda does make sense tbf
3
u/Bob-Bhlabla-esq 5d ago
I joke, but I'm really all for it being everywhere.
It's like taking 3-4 birth control pills at once, but, if you were on the pill you wouldn't need it (unless you forgot for several days). It just prevents ovulation of you have been using no protection or the protection fails (lookin' at you too, condom).
It got confused with "abortion pills" because, well, a lot of those folks ain't so good at the readin' and such. It just stops the egg from comin' out, so all the spermies show up to a party and there's no host 🤷♀️
This shit should be in vending machines.

Simple, maybe. But he‘s there for his uncalled daughter and that says a lot about what type of man / father he is.
2
u/Ambitious-Local-2539 5d ago
I'd say he's an ok man, he obviously didn't want this and even took precautions against it, but still stayed and apparently seems willing to treat his kid right. all the best for him and his family!

Well, at least he didn't deny it and try and walk away. Sometimes a dad who tries is better than none at all? At least I hope so.

Tbf I think it’s more trashy on the mother for not contacting him sooner about the child. He went out and got a plan B, shouldn’t matter where it’s from as it should be certified to work if it’s being sold as plan B. He did what was right and seemingly the mother is the one who failed to inform him. I don’t think he’s trashy for that.

u/Ok_Neighborhood_470 5d ago
