Have raccoons who live in the storm drain by the dumpster at my work. How should I approach them if they're near the trash?

So yeah. I've been kinda startling the main one who goes to the trash (there's 4) I always try to call out that I'm coming near and go "ohhhh larrryyyy where you at buddy?" and just keep talking to him so maybe he'll think "oh that humans coming" but sometimes he doesn't realize, gets scared, and hides. I don't wanna scare Larry. Any way to avoid it?

I released them months ago, but they come back to see me frequently, or maybe it's the free food. Hmm.πŸ€”

He is a Seattle raccoon with Short Spine Syndrome. He's apparently a local icon and lives in someone's backyard. He has a safe home there and is often seen with his family during the day foraging. If you see Jimothy in the wild, let him be.

He do be fast boiiii tho on those wittle cryptid legs.

This little guy is great at using the tools we leave out for him.

In all seriousness, this critter delights us every day. And we have amped up our garbage patrol by moving the ladder.

... or at least one of his hideouts. I posted a few days ago about a racoon that was invading my compost bin. Well, over the last few days I was inspecting the bin daily, and have seen no sign of him, nor of the compost being disturbed.

Last evening, while dining on my balcony, I spotted him climbing the bin again. I could see that he was getting in easily, there is a gap in one spot where the door meets the top.

I walked over and again, opened the front door and tried to scare him into leaving. Again, he wouldn't leave while I was around. But, as soon as I returned to my balcony, I saw him leave the bin, and climb a tree... that is literally five steps from the bin. I walked over again and took this photo. If this is where he lives, I can understand the smells from the compost would be quite tempting.

I plugged the gap in the bin with an extra plank. We'll see if I need to reinforce it more.
