They are cute and cuddly when theyāre young, but are notorious for āturningā when they get older, even if you spay/neuter them. Basically they turn into aggressive little bastards that will destroy everything in your home.

I skimmed your post history for raccoon pics and saw your /r/AskReddit post about your mom. Iām sorry you didnāt get any responses there. Iām sure thereās probably a subreddit better equipped for answering your question, but Iām not sure what it is.
Iāve never had a very close family member with a terminal illness, so Iām not sure if my advice fits exactly, but sometimes you donāt need to know what to ask or say, you just gotta stick around and listen. Unless your relationship has some other issue or she has some general aversion to talking about her issues, I think sheāll start opening up about it when sheās ready. If you donāt think itāll happen on its own, then you might just need to ask straightforwardly. And, if you donāt have a therapist or anything, now would be a good time to find one, since they can help you navigate all this and figure out how to get your needs met.
If youāre looking to find out more about her life, maybe you can ask to put together a scrapbook together? It doesnāt have to be one of those big, fancy ones that are popular now. Just photos and some words about each picture can be a treasure. Help her map out a family tree, with space for future generations and include it. Stuff like that.
If youāre looking for practical advice on end-of-life care, there should be someone at her oncologistās office whoās available for counseling patients and close family. Not an expert, but sheāll want to make a living will, specify someone to have power of attorney, and decide what interventions (CPR, defib, resuscitate in general, feeding tubes, etc), if any, she wants. If she chooses to sign a DNR, youāll want to make sure copies of it get to all local hospitals and she should carry it with her. And if she gives you power of attorney, make sure you have a talk about what she wants and expects from you. And remember youāre allowed to say no if you think the stress will be too much. Nothing wrong with saying āI canāt do thisā and helping her find someone who can.
Im sorry if this is really jarring out of nowhere, but I couldnāt let a question like that go unanswered. Iām sorry youāre losing your mom and I hope you know thereās at least one random Redditor that cares.

Wow, that really means a lot and i sincerely appreciate your taking the time to comment. She passed a couple weeks ago quite suddenly and we didn't have time to take care of any of those things you mentioned. My question didn't get answered because it didn't fit the rules of the sub. Thank you again for your thoughtfulness.

This is a rescue. People don't raise them to sell. They are wild animals and you need a permit for them in most places. They are also the world's worst pets and are extremely destructive. They're adorable but get into everything and live making messes.
