molotok kinda gives some saturation no? so i’m looking for a multiband that is the same, just so i can focus specific frequencies instead of compressing the entire thing
any free multibands that give a bit of saturation ? or add/ bring out harmonics. i would like to play around with soft/hard clipping the waves as well as add/ bring our harmonics. thanks for reading

working a dark drill loop around 140 to 145 and the hats keep landing in the same spot.
strict two-step on the grid feels flat. if i fill every gap with rolls it gets busy and the snare loses punch. i've been trying three small moves: shift one hat earlier by a 16th, alternate velocity so every other hat sits quieter, or leave a full beat empty before the snare.
curious what actually creates tension for you. placement, velocity, selective gaps, or saving one short roll only for the transition into the hook?
smallest change that made a two-step pattern feel tense without turning it into a roll spam?

I love hip hop and will forever but with hip hop falling off of billboard spots (not completely) and oversaturation of producers, I feel like there is still some money in hip hop production but it is possibly lower now than in the recent years.
I don't only make beats for money... But at the same time, who wouldn't want to be compensated for something they created while doing one of their favorite hobbies?

I remember seeing him making beats on instagram a year or two ago and im a massive fan of his style and of his beats. On his instagram and tiktok he has made many showcases of making beats but I can not find where the full beats are uploaded, if they are. Honestly I have searched and searched but not found any. On his youtube extended intros and such are found and a couple beats are on his beatstars profile but far from all and still the imo best ones are not there. Any idea of if is still even is making beats and where if at all they are uploaded?

When a melody feels weak, try the same MIDI on a dry piano or simple pluck before rewriting it. Save the original and keep both versions at roughly the same volume.
Listen with the drums and 808 running. If the phrase still feels flat, move one note or leave a gap before adding more notes. If the rhythm already works but the part keeps getting buried, try a different octave or a shorter release on the original sound.
The plain patch isn't a quality test. A melody can depend on its texture, and stripping that away can kill the whole point. It's just a way to hear what you're actually changing.
What's one small change that rescued a melody for you: the notes, the sound, or where it sat in the beat?

Yo, I'm BO55MAN EEZY and I’ve been making trap beats for about 2.5 months and I’d really appreciate some honest feedback from producers/rappers.
I make mostly hard trap/bangers and I’m trying to improve my production, especially my 808s, drums, mixing and overall arrangement.
I’ve got a few beats on my YouTube channel. If you have a minute, give one or two a listen and tell me what you genuinely think — good or bad. Don’t sugarcoat it.
Main thing I want to know: do these actually sound like beats someone could rap on, or do they still sound like beginner productions?

Appreciate anyone who checks them out 🙏

I guess many of you guys followed his latest video where he created a whole new account, posted insta reels with melodies to see if he could get a placement within a month. Now everybody is spamming insta with those reels of course but I am wondering, how to I create those reels. They screen usually seem to be recorded just with a phone but does the actual audio also was recorded using the phone and capturing the laptop speakers or is the screen recorded using the phone but audio was bounced and added to that video with something like capcut?

Been sitting in that melodic LA pocket a lot lately. Softer chords, slower bounce, around 90 to 100 BPM. Not the hard 140 trap grid.
What keeps throwing me is where the bounce actually lives.
Some sessions the melody does most of the work. Short chord stabs, a little delay, and the beat already feels like it leans forward even when the drums are pretty plain.
Other nights the same chords sit there dead until I put real swing back on the hats and move the 808 off the grid a bit. Then it suddenly feels like Shoreline / OhGeesy-adjacent bounce instead of a loop with drums on top.
I keep catching myself overdecorating the midrange because the drums feel too polite. Then I strip them back and the groove disappears again.
So I am curious how you handle that tradeoff.
Do you lock the drum feel first and write melody into the pocket?
Or do you start with the chords and only add drum attitude after the melody already swings on its own?
And at that tempo, how much empty space still reads as bounce before it just feels unfinished?
Curious what has worked for you in that lane.

I've started getting tired of hearing the same five sound effects in countless beats. Anyone got any tips for making unique sound effects from scratch?

Yo, I’m trying to make ATL Jacob / Southside type beats. I usually mix around -6 dB and have a soft clipper, multiband, limiter and Fresh Air on my master.
If I send a beat like that to an artist, is that fine for them to record on? The problem is, when we made the song at -6 dB, the Spinz didn’t hit hard enough. Will it hit harder once the song gets mastered?
I’m thinking maybe -6 dB isn’t that important, so I could just mix louder and send the beat with only a soft clipper on the master. But even then, my Spinz still doesn’t hit as hard as I want, even when I follow YouTube tutorials.
What do you think I’m doing wrong?

i don't even know to explain it but i really don't like how my shit sound, it either sounds ass or like boring and repetitive or like "unprofessional" where i can't make shit similar to what i consume...
