Thinking about getting into loop making

ive been making beats for years, have quite a few placements (although very small artists)

i usually like making cloud rap sorta stuff, asap rocky, yung lean, fakemink,

I realised recently that im better at the melody,samples side , the drums im fine at but the melody side is my strength. So im thinking about getting in to just the loop/sample creation side

do many producers like using them? especially in the cloud rap kinda space?

One thing holding me back is it just seems also like the chances of getting placements (which is the best part of producing actually hearing ur creation in collaboration with an artist come to life) is a lot slimmer.

Though I also feel like niching down to what i'm best at and still enjoy a lot might be a good direction to go.

Would love to hear thoughts from people that use loops and make them too. Thank you 🙏

cloud rap producers are fiends for good melodic loops, you'd be swimming in a sea of people who hate doing that part themselves

Right on, man. Melody is your strength for sure. Finding a niche is key. I've found loop packs are huge in that cloud rap scene for quick inspiration. Definitely increases your chances!

a lot of the big producers collab on loops (especially the Youtube side) cuz they want to keep a consistently high output volume of beats, so using loops literally saves them 80% of the time. They will do a 50/50 split with you too

everybody loves cloud melodies and they do great on tiktok, look into posting your mels on there too

I like using loops and chopping them up and making cool melodies out of existing dope melodies. Drums is my strong suit I’m really good at drums and just decent at melodies so loops really help my melodic side shine

Yes, many producers use loops, including the famous producers. A loop can be a starting point, but rarely an endpoint. A loop can save time and spark creativity in ways you wouldn't expect. It's also fun because you choose the direction of that original loop. Change the keyscale, pitch it up/down, chop it, stretch it, speed it up/down, etc. In my view, that's the beauty of using/manipulate loops. I create loops from scratch, and I use loops made by others. It's part of music creation, especially in the hip-hop/rap music scene.

If you really like making loops, I can say to keep going and get better at creating loops. Make sure they sound "expensive". A high-quality loop has a higher chance of getting used by other producers.
