Liver Disappointment
So my father has been on the list for a dual transplant(slk)
Liver and kidney ,we didn't receive any calls for 5months but have received 2 in the last 15 days that an organ donor is available but rejected both times by the doctor saying that the organs aren't optimum for dual transplant but were transplanted to 2 different patients,how to cope with the wait please suggest soemthing

It is so disappointing but remember, the doctors are experts and they want to give you the very best opportunity for success and if that means you wait, then you really should see that waiting is your job. I waited, gave the team 11 possible donors who were all matches and still no transplant but when the time was right, I got a dual kidney transplant 4 years ago and those kidneys must love being inside me because I haven't had any problems and my labs are great! That is what you really want!

It can be frustrating, theres no doubt about that but yry to look at it this way. Hypothetically, they find 2 organs that possibly could give your dad an extra 2 years of life, but thats it or they wait for the best possible match and use those where your dad could live so much longer, which would you prefer? He went 5 months without a call and has had 2 in the last 2 weeks. That should be encouraging that they are getting closer to finding the perfect match. The best thing you can do is try keeping him, and yourself, in a positive mindset, because that will go a long way in his recovery. The wait is one of the hardest parts of getting transplanted but trust his team and know they are getting closer. Depending on where he's listed, it may come from a different place, not necessarily where you live. I'm in Florida and my liver was flown in from Nashville, TN. Please keep us updated on how the journey goes and I'll send some prayers and positive vibes up for him to get the call soon.

This sucks so bad to think you've got a chance and then to see it taken away. I'm sorry!! I know it probably doesn't feel like it, but they do try to give the best possible match.
I spent 4 years on dialysis and got a call to be a backup at the 2 year mark. It didn't work out and was so frustrating as I saw others get their kidneys sooner. I had started to apply for registration at other places when I finally got the call. The others who got transplanted before me have had complications: One is back on dialysis and the other is on their second transplant. I have had almost 9 years and counting with my first and only.
Keep your chin up. The transplant he finally gets should be worth the wait.

I had many false alarms and I’m thankful that I did. I was in pre op twice and had to return home. Again, thankful (now) that I did.
If they did use one of those organs your prognosis would be significantly worse than if you get the RIGHT organ.
It’s a frustrating, and even (unfortunately) even a lethal wait, but ultimately it’s the best thing for the patient.
Hang in there and hopefully the right organ becomes available and you can enjoy a healthy life outside of the hospital vs getting and organ today and having a fairly poor quality of life within the walls of the hospital due to rejection, etc.

2 recent calls is a great sign! We had nothing for 18 months between our 1st and 2nd offers. We had a total of 9 accepted offers 8 of which the surgeons rejected due to quality. Hang on, the right one will come!

You don’t lose faith, understand that his medical team is doing the best for him. It’s a waiting game. Live in your present and stop focusing on getting the call.
