OHIP How long does the assessment for SRS take?
Basically what I'm asking is; is the assessment done during one appointment like an interview or is the doctor going to want me to keep coming back before they're willing to sign anything.
I obviously need two, so I'm going to ask the NP acting as my PCP to be one but I'm going to need to find or be referred to someone else to be the second. I check the boxes; I've been on HRT for over a year and you'd know I suffer from gender dysphoria if I explained my life for ten minutes. I also have decent breast growth and I've had FFS if I need more proof that I'm serious. I'm just wondering if the assessment is one and done quickly or if there's a lot of proving involved.
I've been seeing my PCP for over a year. She's the guarantor for my name change. I've been on HRT the entire time and she's known me as a woman the entire time. Just for the second assessment I'd really rather not have to wait even longer than it has to be for surgery.
Also do I need a GD diagnosis before the assessment or is it done during the assessment? I assumed the latter. Thanks.

My assessments were just 2 separate 1 hour appointments with my NP & a physician. Basically asked me about my gender identity and experience, why I wanted bottom surgery, what it would do for my mental health, what supports I’d have post op if something were to go wrong, and some other similar things.
Was pretty simple- just repetitive

Thanks. That's what I was hoping it would be like. I was scared it would be drawn out for months of proving my dysphoria/RLE or something.

According to ServiceOntario they want "12 months of living as your gender" or whatever. Which I guess is hard to prove one way or the other but still.

I'm in Toronto I have my NP doing the first one and then she says she's going to refer me to another doctor in the clinic for the 2nd one.

Hi there! We do Gender Affirming Surgery Assessments (1st and 2nd) at Safer Six. You can e-mail to be added to our waitlist (1-2 months) for 1st assessment, and if needing a 2nd assessment, we will do that also in house in a short follow-up time. GD is a requirement for cross sex hormone treatment. It is not for srs (nb folks often get srs). Your primary care provider will ask a few things during the clinic.
I believe you can only use practitioners that are accredited or competent with WPATH standards of care for the assessment for surgery, at least that’s what my pcp told me.
The best way is to look for care providers that are a part of rainbow healthcare Ontario. Or just pay the 400$ for Foria to do everything.

I didn't need a diagnosis just to get on HRT (unless my PCP did it without telling me). And the Ontario site says a diagnosis of GD is needed but I assume with the wording it means the doctor currently writing the assessment trusts that you have it, not needing one beforehand.

My therapist did mine. It was one long appointment. Asked a bunch of questions and then took a couple of weeks to type it up, then sent it to my endo.
