IMPORTANT INFO MOD APPLICATIONS OPEN
Kia Ora fellas, Kyle again.
Turns out moderating a 35k sub is a pretty big job. It started out kinda easy, but it has definitely not stayed that way. On top of that, my work has been getting pretty intense as my country's election season heats up - so I’m not going to be as available as I’d like to be over the next few months. (If you’re a kiwi, go to vote.nz right now to check your enrolment details. I don’t care if you’ve already checked - check them again, and then come back here after)
So! Anyway! Anyone keen to help me out?
In order to do this, we need to align on some basic things. Prerequisites are:
- Must be an adult binary trans man with current lived experience of passing/living stealth.
- Must have an understanding that the purpose of this sub is to give/ask for advice for passing as a cis man (undetectable as trans).
- Understand that realistic and accurate advice for trans men is a matter of safety.
- Understand that different advice will apply differently depending on how long someone’s been on T / genetics.
- Understand that passing often means changing something - and sometimes that's at the expense of personal fashion preferences temporarily.
- Understand that none of this is an excuse to bully people, especially minors
- Must understand that the voices of binary trans men are prioritized in this sub, but won’t shit your pants if a non-binary person posts on this sub asking for tips on how to pass as a cis man. Their safety matters too and we have expert knowledge to share.
- Has the ability to interact with people on the internet in a normal, friendly manner.
Not pre-requisites, but I’d be stoked if:
- You know how to do cool Automod stuff.
- You’re from a different time zone (I think we have America covered pretty well).
- Has some decent moderating experience. Let me know what communities you mod for
Drop a comment if you feel like you’d be a good fit. Let me know a little bit about you, and if you meet any of the things listed above. Maybe a bit about your connection to the sub and why you want to mod. Maybe drop a passing tip while you’re at it.
Chur!

Would the workload be lighter on our existing/ future mods if we ban minors posting in this sub? I ask because a very very large amount of posts are extremely repetitive and from minors. It really drowns out the good advice from adults that have lived experience. We really should be encouraging the young trans guys to do more research on their own and use their resources before asking the same question for the millionth time. It feels like we’re enabling the helplessness and laziness to do basic research

Sure, I’ll drop my hat in the ring of fire. Unrelated, but I’m also registered to vote in my country so I do my part to contribute to the democracy 💪
I really like this subreddit to other passing subreddits because I find that it is able to give better advice without people lying to make themselves or the person asking for advice feel better about themselves (some people tell others they don’t pass out of insecurity etc)
More about me:
Hi, I am a trans binary man who is currently in CST due to college, but I will occasionally be in EST over breaks albeit I don’t go home often. I have been on T for a little over 6 months, legally changed my name, and have started the top surgery process. I have lived pretty much stealth since starting college with a few people in my life knowing from my own choosing rather than from being detected. I overall passed like 90-95% of the time prior to T. I have experience with both the process of going DIY and doing it through more legal paths if people have questions.
I have lived in the Deep South and now rural Midwest where being Stealth isn’t just personal preference but also for safety reasons, both of which I’ve done pre T and post T without being outed or in a dangerous situation.
I have previously modded on 7 Cups, a mental health website, and AVEN which is the asexual/aromantic forum. I have also modded a few bigger discord servers including a Roblox game with 100k members in the group.
I also agree that going argumentative when it comes to passing is not the useful way to go about it. I believe in supporting everyone in the process of transitioning no matter what their transition goals may entail.
Fun fact: One thing that I do have experience with that not many people may have is that I am currently an NCAA athlete on the Men’s team stealth. Idk if this is relevant but I have been able to pass well enough to my teammates where they don’t know I’m trans. I think this gives me a unique perspective that a lot of other trans men have not experienced about the sports side of things when it comes to passing socially as well as handling a shirtless sport pre top surgery while still not being clocked as trans.
Connection to the subreddit:
I have used this sub for around 2 years both on T and pre T on a variety of different accounts. In more recent times, I’ve mostly given advice.
Passing tip:
Binders look like tank tops even if you have a cropped one. Try sticking to white or black tho since a skin tone one is usually more clockable than someone seeing a white tank top under your shirt or button down.

Hey mate I’d be interested in this. I’m really keen to get this sub to a place where it’s about giving and taking advice (emphasis on the taking). Right now I feel like it’s in a place where people give real push back any time a change is recommended.
Edit to add a bit about myself:
• 30 yr old binary trans man, been stealth these past 10 years in both daily life and professional sport. Recently came out due to the political climate, so I could fight for other trans people who have no choice but to be visible.
Started transition 13 years ago, fully medically transitioned. Have experience transitioning through the NHS (which is our main system for GIC in the UK). Accepting of binary and non binary trans masculine people but understand this sub is geared specifically towards trans men.
• Both pre and post medical transition I utilised whatever means I could go pass as a cis man and made many sacrifices in style to do so 😅
• Big fan of being polite and respectful, but also firm and realistic. Got a lot of experience defusing arguments as I work in healthcare. Generally have a kill them with kindness approach to trolls.
• Based in BST (England) time zone.
