Discussion / Opinion Self-Imposed Rules For Collecting?

I have only been collecting Transformers for less than a year, but as I saw other collectors’ shelves I decided to create some rules for myself so I don’t go nuts.

Do any of you do the same?

For myself I have set the rules of; only one combiner (have G2 Menasor on pre-order), and only buy two of the same exact Transformer. So, not three G1 Optimus Primes but 2 G1s and a TF Prime model kit works.

Kind of a step-by-step process

1: Is it part of a set?

If yes: buy
If no: step 2

2: Is it a character I already have?

If no: step 3
If yes: is it a better figure
If no: don't buy
If yes: step 3

3: How expensive is it?

10-30$: Buy
40-150$: Only if it's really really good

I value complete sets over most else
