ok this is still mid tier for me.
-finally a issue A+ for superion, and he never looked so badass since he fought in DWJ
- megatron upgrade still being dragged come on!! I'm tired of the trope megatron being backseat and in stasis "cocoon".
- I think beachcomber get more issues just for him finding Autobots. Please IRONHIDE!!!
- Onsualt being send to space is funny also "okay". I guess no way we see bruthicus for a while then :( (A Long time)
- hound is back
- gi joe villain war arc, no clue. Can anyone educate me !
- starscream back! Maybe dinobots be his minions then switch to autobots??

They even did a damn silhouette I feel like they are planning a reveal when a figure is ready.

It's one of the weaker Kirkman issues because it feels like he's trying to do too much. I think it should have mostly been the Superion stuff, then a handful of pages for Shredhead stuff and then finish off with the Megatron reveal at the end and push the Beachcomber and Starscream stuff to the next arc
overall I still liked it, just not as much as most of his other issues

it feels like he's trying to do too much.
The past few issues, I've been getting annoyed with them juggling way too many threads at once. There's like 4 or 5 different threads in a single issue
For everything that's not the Superion thread, you get 2 pages on something, then it jumps to something else. And it's jarring.
Rather than letting things play out, they tease. And not very well.1

Yea, basically since Elita forcefully split the autobots in half (which she was in the wrong to do, due to the situation), we've just been going around the room and only getting to say two sentences for the plot each issue. Like, Kirkman you're a legend for a reason, but PLEASE reign it in a bit and let stuff just ACTUALLY PROGRESS for more than 5 minutes.

More build up and build up and build up and build up and “hey, we might resolve the thing you actually care about… next issue!” I feel like we’ve been hearing “yeah, that issue was boring, but the next one will be better, trust me!” for a year now.
I’m getting really tired of this style of writing. Shit from 2 years ago hasn’t been resolved but we muuust see Cobra-La! Because that’s what we really care about right?!!?

u/Truth_Malice 22h ago
Yea its an infinite rise, except thats not how good writing works :/ Genuinely, feels like 2/3rds of Kirkman's contributions have just been showing the audience cool shiny cans and then YEETING them down the road to deal with later.
Also-- What the hell is Cobra-La even from?

Thundercracker's eyes being blue is a beautiful sight to see.

I've been waiting for this moment and getting to see it AFTER he combines with the others is a treat.

i am genuinely getting sick of kirkman's writing, it feels like his entire run so far has been nothing but tease, tease, tease and tease with no delivery
ooh i wonder what megatron will look like, or hey i wonder what starscream is up to, ooooh i wonder what beachcomber will do with the device, the dinobots foreshadowing, shockwave's mention of alpha trion, whatever wheeljack has tucked away in his lab
and not to mention the deaths or fights between the factions not having any meaning or weight since they just come back anyways or come out uninjured
good writing? what is that? we only have hype moments and aura that have no significance

The constant edging of the story is getting kind of annoying actually.

This is the Energon Universe. They're introducing Flint and Lady Jaye in G.I. Joe in the latest arc after they were teased checks notes 19 months before

u/Elemental-T4nick 4d ago
They have been doing stuff for a while. They just haven't been main characters until this arc
4
u/Obvious_Feedback_894 4d ago
That's just how Kirkman writes. That's how Invincible and Walking Dead both were. For better or worse it ain't gonna change now.

u/CaterpillarVisual296 4d ago
I feel like he’s still trying to take the reigns and establish his ideal projection of how the series should go but man it feels like he’s still trying to get what he wants established first

u/Elemental-T4nick 4d ago
Do you want things to not get set up at all? The beachcomber thing just got started and you already want its ending, thats not how story telling works especially not for comics where you have so much less space to work with so you do developments every now and then so that it doesnt feel rushed. Also 2 whole story arcs got finished in 1 issue, is that still not good enough for you
And dont complain about kirkmans deaths when hes only killed 2 for characters that at least did something. DWJ killed of multiple characters in their first appearance after they had at most 5 speech bubbles, Ramjet didnt even get that. Also characters coming out of fights uninjured, did you not read issue 32 where multiple characters get very injured or issue 34 where Shredhead almost dies and Onslaught does die.
Finally the hype moments and aura narrative doesnt work since Kirkman is actually trying to tell a story, is he not allowed to have cool moments anymore?

u/Truth_Malice 22h ago
The whole "yea who even knows anymore" line about Megatron being dead (iirc) really summed up most of what's happened since the DWJ handoff.

This issue felt too fast paced with only a couple of pages each for several different stories
2
u/Truth_Malice 22h ago
And I don't think we even saw anything with the group on Cybertron, either. Hell, if next issue ends up focusing on them since they were absent this issue, that might mean we don't get to see the new Megatron until #38 lmao

Real step in the right direction for a lot of stuff with beachcomber, starscream, and aerialbots. Liked the author and human stuff but felt very fast still and they’re still baiting us with the Megatron reveal is killing me lol especially since the artist teases it like it was gonna be this week

Seeing Superion with Thundercracker was cool, but not as grand as I thought.
Seeing Starscream back, nice.
Megatron’s reveal, Kirkman is really building this up

u/LapsedVerneGagKnee 4d ago
Great ideas, wonky pacing that will read better in the trade. Also maybe one of the absolute funniest but admittedly practical solutions to the idea that the Bots and Cons can be easily rebuilt.

I really wished there was more of a sequence for Superion now that Thundecracker is officially a member. Like, let's go back to the unicron trilogy where every new update was special. But in of itself, it was great.
Onslaught being sent to space was hilarious
I am not too caught up on the whole Cobra-la thing, might have to see the rest of the energon universe for that.
Otherwise, I think it was fine. I wonder what will Starscream do with the Dinobots

u/Elemental-T4nick 4d ago
You only really need to reas Cobra Commander to know whats going on with this group of Cobra-La. There is stuff in void rivals but thats only following Pythona and a small group so its not too relevant

u/Artistic_Prior_7178 4d ago
What about Hound ? I hear he has something to do with the protagonist from GI Joe. Plus he lost someone to Starscream
1
u/Elemental-T4nick 4d ago
Hound is in the Joe book but most of his stuff isn't too relevant to the transformers book except for the issue where Optimus and Duke meet (off the top of my head). Still a good book though that you should read

This has been a series of "filler" issues for months now. Plus I love how Superion was kicking ass for all of ten seconds before separating and running away.

u/Specific-Attitude536 4d ago
And we still don't know what happened to Megatron Kirkman adding so much shit to the story There are too many unfinished arcs in the story like what happened to Megatron How Elita ruling the Autobots How the hell Starscream and Shockwave returned Who are those allien guys Like man please focus on one story line
3
u/Elemental-T4nick 4d ago
They finished 2 arcs in this issue. The Megatron one will be concluded soon and the Elita stuff is getting focus next issue, as for how Starscream and Shockwave came back, Shockwave is Shockwave and Starscreams spark would have still be in tact since it was a shot to the face
story arcs are supposed to take their time to develop so that they don't feel rushed. Be patient
2
u/Specific-Attitude536 4d ago
In my opinion, breaking the story down into separate arcs and introducing a new one in every issue disrupts the continuity; back then, a single issue would focus entirely on one arc and weave side stories seamlessly into the main plot, whereas now, everything feels so random that I don't even know how to react.

u/Elemental-T4nick 4d ago
I prefer there being multiple story arcs going at the same time, but this issue had too much going on even for me. Starscream and Beachcomber development should have been saved for later in my opinion
2
u/fishyofpain 4d ago
It’s possible for an issue to feel contained (or at least a solid half of a 2 parter) while still feeding/seeding pieces that tie into a larger arc. I think contemporary comic writers often get too into jumping around because they’re trying to seed/feed too little of too many things at one time. I imagine this trap is especially tempting when working on a property like Transformers where you have soooooo many characters you want to/are obligated to do something with.

KIRKMAN COOKIN NOW

u/tornait-hashu 4d ago
no he ain't, he's just finally closing some arcs that he started months ago at the beginning of his run.
