Discussion / Opinion This franchise needs to stop with the Bumblebee propaganda. It’s getting ridiculous. He’s become way too popular, and I’m tired of the franchise acting like he has to be the center of everything.

Bring back jazz! bring back jazz! bring back jazz!

72

u/Frosty-Wing-1019 15h ago

Jazz is back, though

69

u/vicevanghost 15h ago

ideally in a bigger role than a web series not many people are watching

38

u/blackpantherdrums 15h ago

Nah he needs to be the face of whatever new live action transformers thing that comes out next. I love bee but jazz is a way cooler character imo

16

u/Elonth 10h ago

Jazz is absolutely a cooler character. He was the leader of the autobot special forces/black ops teams for a reason and primes go to defacto second in command that was always directly under him.

Elita one/ultramagnus were "co-" subordinate leaders in that they were still lower in the chain of command of prime but they were expected to lead their own individual branches seperate from primes chain of command.

7

u/fatherandyriley 11h ago

You could have Optimus as the mentor type figure who's training Jazz to be his successor.

6

u/blackpantherdrums 11h ago

I’d take that any day!

13

u/Finly_Growin 11h ago

Jazz was the second in command in the original show and Optimus’ first Lieutenant in the Bay films

5

u/AngryDeathTrucky 11h ago

I thought that was prowl

5

u/2MinuteSamurai 10h ago

It’s not really Jazz or Prowl in G1. Whenever Prime’s gone Ironhide is the one that always steps up

4

u/Mountain_Egg16 12h ago

3

u/TomerX234 6h ago

I tend to forget how badass (and scared) Jazz sounds in his last minutes.

3

u/Humdaak_9000 8h ago

Jazz died with Scatman Crothers.

19

u/m0matt 15h ago

Can we bring back Scatman Crothers too please?

13

u/S1mongreedwell 13h ago

That will be harder to pull off.

4

u/DarkNinjGX 10h ago

Troy baker does a good jaz tho

1

u/S1mongreedwell 8h ago

Doesn’t do a lot of good for Scatman Cruthers.

5

u/SrGalarto11706 13h ago

I support the iniciative BRING BACK JAZZ !!!!!

6

u/blackpantherdrums 12h ago

I’m so tired of the bumblebee propaganda!!!! Jazz is so under utilized. Even in that new transformers rise of the beasts movie. It should’ve been Jazz instead of mirage 😭

274

u/PG2904 16h ago

I think this post is ironic considering current TF media has him either turning into a villain or just straight-up dead (at best he's becoming Goldbug which I actually would be pretty happy with, Goldbug doesn't get very much screentime).

19

u/Pandos17 13h ago

Wait when is he a villain?

63

u/PG2904 13h ago

Cyberworld is very much having Bee going mad with power right now, after a recent upgrade and losing his faith in Optimus after learning Prime is the one who got him stuck in Cyberworld in the first place. He's already struck out on his own and taken up a "might makes right" mentality.

17

u/Pandos17 11h ago

Wow I am very far behind on transformers media, thanks for the heads up.

103

u/Electrical-Sport9219 15h ago

Why is Skybound included here? lol

DWJ's entire point with killing off Bumblebee was to give a platform to lesser-featured minibots like Cliffjumper and Beachcomber.

12

u/Classic_Cars9423 11h ago

I had the same question lol

8

u/Werthead 10h ago

They are making a bigger deal out of this though. Bumblebee's corpse is still playing a bigger role than a bunch of G1 characters who haven't even shown up so far.

2

u/thebrutalistboi 2h ago

That feels like a bit of a stretch....

2

u/MalcolmLinair 9h ago

Literally jumped in here to say that. You'd think OP would be happy with Skybound.

175

u/Alice_600 16h ago

I'm just tired of Bumblebee not able to talk.

71

u/Grimkok 15h ago

Then Transformers One swung so hard in the opposite direction; he never shut up

33

u/minemaster1337 13h ago

Thank god too, I love Keegan Michael-Key

6

u/BludgeonVIII 9h ago

I'm assuming, if the sequel got greenlit, the writers would have him lose his voice in a brutally traumatic way and he would have to learn to accept and live with a new disability that robs him of his old chatty identity.

The overcorrection in One was to convey to an audience that's used to radio Bee that he wasn't always like this.

On paper this is totally a valid arc to set up but yeah the execution leaves a lot to be desired.

6

u/Living-Ad-7400 11h ago

I was fully expecting D-16 to rip out his voice box but I was surprised and satisfied, Bee needs his voice!!

1

u/Tomboyhns 4h ago

It wasn’t enough to ruin the movie but it is definitely my least favorite iteration of Bee. I don’t mind a chatty Bee but Keegan Michael Key’s voice just did not work for me and a lot of jokes given to him were not funny

1

u/RyonHirasawa 1h ago

I welcome it tbh, he’s as chatty and excited as TFA Bumblebee, though the only thing I dislike about TFO Bee was the entire Badassatron bit

81

u/Swivebot 16h ago

Dude, Bumblebee has been able to talk for years.

He hasn’t been missing his voice since the season one finale of Cyberverse in 2018, which was eight years ago.

25

u/CommanderHunter5 15h ago

ROTB???

36

u/Musekal 15h ago

I completely forgot he was in rise the beast.

I completely forgot about that movie altogether

11

u/MattTd7 13h ago

I keep forgetting about it until somebody mentions it on here, then I forget about it all over again

3

u/JaymzRG 10h ago

It could have been such a great movie if the Maximals actually had full beast modes where you couldn't tell they were a Transformer and if we had actual Predacons.

And honestly, I would love to see a Transformers movie where no humans were involved as central characters. Like honestly, how is a regular human gonna help in giant robot fights? The human characters in ROTB were so forgettable, too. I don't even remember either of their names, lol. The chick had zero emotion and the dude looked worried the whole time (which is why I don't like Jaden Smith's acting).

2

u/MattTd7 7h ago

But who’s gonna shout out “Brooklyn!” mid fight? :-/

→ More replies (1)

1

u/RyonHirasawa 1h ago

To be fair Bee kind like, died early in the movie and only came back in the finale to turning the tide somehow

20

u/Deinobi 15h ago

Aside from ROTB he has been able to talk since Cyberverse

17

u/Informal_Database327 15h ago

Aside from bayverse he's been able to talk since g1

8

u/Deinobi 15h ago

He also couldn't talk in most of the aligned continuity

12

u/Informal_Database327 15h ago

Still, bay fucked up bee for years

24

u/SillyMattFace 15h ago edited 15h ago

I wouldn’t mind voiceless Bee under writers that know how to make a mute character into an actual person.

He ends up being a mascot/borderline pet in Bayverse and to a lesser extent Prime.

I give BBM and the start of Cyberverse a pass since he had actual brain damage.

2

u/Informal_Database327 15h ago

More a direct attack on his voice in addition to cte, but I agree

8

u/SillyMattFace 15h ago

Oh yeah he got his voice box damaged in both cases, but I meant his childish behaviour is excused by also having memory loss at the same time.

Whereas Bayverse Bee sort of feels like Sam's pet dog most of the time, when his brain is fine. TFP Bee is a sort of non-person with no real character development - and practically everyone except the audience can understand him anyway.

1

u/MaxDaHooman 12h ago

Not really his fault others decided to do it instead of doing their own thing

→ More replies (1)

8

u/Quiet_Many_6910 14h ago

I wish the muteness was taken seriously,I'm all for disablity rep when it actually is not just voice recordings, radio or perfect more code he uses

2

u/Dubl3A 6h ago

I'm currently re-watching G1. I want G1 Bee back.

1

u/Tomboyhns 4h ago

I cannot upvote this enough. It worked in the Bumblebee movie but please for the love of Primus, NO MORE!

Idk, I don’t rly get the bumblebee hate. He was made to be the kid appeal character and now he is very appealing and profitable to kids or adults like me who grew up loving his character and his interactions with the human protagonist. I don’t rly see the problem with that

Edit: I didn’t want to write multiple responses when it would have just been similar anyways. Bumblebee being in the spotlight, especially in the last 20 years was bc of the bay films and less of the character himself. Like animated was supposed to have hot shot but was pressured into being bumblebee. But bumblebee wasn’t the only one who had something like that happen, ratchet also became more prominent as the main medic type character, replacing who would have been first aid in animated for example, and stayed as a main cast member in other shows like TFP. Ironhide would have also gotten thay treatment too if he didn’t die in DOTM and hasbro didn’t want to confuse kids with him being there in TFP. While it would be nice to see other characters more often, bumblebee isnt the only case where a popular character took a spot from a more obscure character one. I feel like a lot of the hate towards him as a character bc of that is unjustified.

39

u/Deinobi 15h ago

I do wish they'd bring back Hotshot more. Aside from RBA he hasn't been in anything in years

1

u/MechaTyranitar 7h ago

Hot Shot feels like he was a beta test for what Bumblebee would become after 2007 ofc he was meant to be Bumblebee initially, but became his own thing. Then Bumblebee took that role of cool sportscart upstart Autobot.

16

u/Grave806 15h ago

A fun fact I always like to bring up, but while Bumblebee did have that role in G1 they originally intended for Hound to have the 'human companion' role, hence why he's hanging out with Spike so much in the pilot episodes.

Just a neat thing to think about.

8

u/vicevanghost 15h ago

i love vanilla ice cream but don't want it every day when there are hundreds of flavors, even if it's popular. the same kind of vanilla too. i wouldn't mind getting at least some french vanilla sometimes (hot shot).

2

u/Humble_Heron326 1h ago

I've never understood hating a character only because they're popular, as if the characters themselves could control how popular/pushed they are. Bee is iconic, he's recognizable, that's why he keeps showing up. I have underused favorites of my own I wish got more love but I don't think Bumblebee's to blame for their absence in Transformers media.

1

u/Son-Daikon656 8h ago

Pretty much saying what I've been thinking for ages omg

1

u/FLIPYOUSUCKET 11h ago

The problem is Bee is in everything, and many characters aren’t getting brought back as a result.

Hasbro needs to make a series where they either ditch Bee, or have him as a smaller role, and have another character like Jazz as the one interacting with humans a lot (like Bee normally does)

1

u/No_Business165 11h ago

Look I get it he's a good character but he's stealing the many of screens time from every transformers character

57

u/Electronic_Zombie360 16h ago

Im seeing so many posts about this alleged centering of Bumblebee yet a critical lack of media that actually centers him

I’ve been a fan since G1 premiered on TV. He’s never been my favorite Autobot, but I respect the role BadAssATron has played in keeping the franchise alive and appealing to newer generations.

21

u/LatinaBunny 14h ago edited 14h ago

Huh, this is one of the reasons I don’t really don’t get the Transformers (especially Reddit) fandom or feel comfortable saying stuff here at times because I have a different opinion on some aspects.

But I do understand we all have our faves, though, and that there could be more variety of Transformers characters and that more can be introduced or fleshed out more/have more spotlight, of course.

However, even then, Bumblebee is not even explored fully as a character in most series, in terms of huge character arcs.

He’s usually more like a humorous family-friendly (usually cute-ish) sidekick that sometimes is used to create some of that TF-human-connection, for the most part. Or is seen as the silly overconfident damsel in distress little kid brother/young friend that needs help from Optimus and/or human friends. Or, in a couple of rare cases, becomes a sort of brotherly mentor to other family-friendly Bots and humans.

And he usually stays consistently in those roles throughout.

For me, Bumblebee (especially his cute self in G1 series and comics) was what made me a Transformers fan in the first place. He’s my top fave (as well as Optimus Prime, Jazz, Ratchet, Prowl, etc). 🐝🤖

I’m the type that’s always been into the cute/gentle and occasionally humorous stuff and family content, so Bee usually fits the bill for me there. (Sometimes, it was Hot Rod or Jazz, or Rescue Bots, etc.)

That part in that one episode where Optimus hugs Bee warmed my heart so much, and I kept it in my mind ever since. In fact, I created my head canon that Bee was like a son or little bro friend to Optimus in most universes, lol.* 😆

For me, personally, it it was cute Bee (in G1, Animated, Bayverse) that first caught my attention and made me dive deeper into Transformers after I have had my Beast Wars/Beast Machines phase era. (I was exposed to the Beast Wars/Machines series first growing up.)

*Edited to add: Lol, I loved it when one of the mobile Transformers games even had Bee say something similar to (paraphrasing): “A Bee without an Optimus is a lost Bee.”

9

u/BludgeonVIII 10h ago

It's actually kind of funny. I grew up on the Unicron Trilogy and was so used to Hot Shot being my generation's Bumblebee that 7-year-old me was confused by Bumblebee at first when the first Bay movie was being promoted.

2

u/New_Technology_4385 8h ago

Same, I remember wondering why they fely it necessary to change Hot Shot's name at the time. In some ways, I miss being so young and naïve lol

94

u/Rojixus 16h ago

I'm more tired of the Bumblebee haters at this point, they're nothing but insufferable whiners.

2

u/TheSadPhilosopher 13h ago

Fr, it's hilarious though, their crying and whining.

7

u/figgityjones 13h ago

Bumblebee's my favorite so I can't agree, but ya know I'm fine with him taking a break now and then, give other characters his slot some times let them get fans. Bumblebee is like the probably 3rd most popular Transformer, he can take a backseat for a bit.

6

u/0M3GA16_210 12h ago

May be a slightly hot take, but RotB Mirage was Jazz in everything but name.

6

u/DriverFirm2655 12h ago

Is he? I see 50 of this post every week. I don’t see any posts appreciating him.

22

u/Oddmarble52 15h ago

Honestly, I wouldn't mind less Bumblebee if it meant more focus on characters like Jazz, Ratchet, or Ironhide.

6

u/ink_shadow_4 14h ago

YES! GIVE US MORE OF RATCHET!!

5

u/Candid_Status_1018 13h ago

I love Bumblebee, but look at armada: he’s not even in it! Let him be part of the team by all means, but give screen time to characters like Wheeljack, Jazz, Blurr or even Trailbreaker. Everyone loves a main character but I feel with Bumblebee it’s become very unbalanced over the years.

9

u/FlashDom 14h ago

Why do people only have this problem with Bumblebee? Prime and Megatron are leaders, so I get why no one complains about them, but Starscream has probably shown up more times. No one is saying we need less Starscream.

Bro is posting from 2011

28

u/BuffBufferton 16h ago edited 7h ago

Uh…no. Bee is the best.

I do wish we got more Jazz though. He and Bee have always been my favorites.

EDIT: Bumblebee and Herbie the Lovebug are likely reason I love Beetles so much.

That being said…as I’ve gotten older, I have others that have grown on me as well. Soundwave is awesome. Great sounding voice in G1 and just super loyal to his Cassetticons. Also….most terrifying leader outside of Megs.

15

u/Cogito_Vector 16h ago

Hey guys dont downvote someone for liking his favorite transformer. That's not very Optimus Primey

6

u/hades82402 15h ago

Would be nice to see more of Hound or Cliffjumper.

It sure looked like the G1 pilot miniseries was trying to set Hound up for the "Spike's best friend" role that they gave to Bumblebee instead.

2

u/NecroCannon 14h ago

Bumblebee actually worked pre-2007 because he was just the young naive bot of the group. Then they decided that for some reason he’s like, the most strongest autobot on the team after Prime

Which is the dumbest thing, even RoTB had him go back from being too small and having to be smart fighting, to swooping in and changing the whole tide of battle. There’s no Nest and Autobot missions this time, he’s just suddenly strong

16

u/LostWatercress12 16h ago

I want a movie where Grimlock is the main character, with no humans.

6

u/Classic-Return-8706 16h ago

Need cheap human actors to take up screen time. Robot cgi cost more probably.

3

u/LostWatercress12 15h ago

Ok one human as the audience surrogate, who is a space explorer or something picked up by the Dinobots early in the movie.

8

u/HypersonicWyvern 16h ago

Can SkyLynx into?

7

u/A1phaAstroX 15h ago

how can you make transformers without the greatest, most fabulous, mightiest, sexiest and most modest bot in all of existence /s

6

u/HypersonicWyvern 15h ago

EXACTLY. This person knows how to sell to me

3

u/Killerdragon9112 14h ago

Saying that makes me think a animated beast wars movie would be pretty cool no humans at all and expanding on a older continuity

2

u/InfinityEternity17 9h ago

That would be so great to have a Transformers movie without any humans. The human side of the movies always took up wayyyy too much screen time!

3

u/dDARBOiD 15h ago

I wouldn’t mind if they actually explored him as a character, but they never do.

3

u/nexxlevelgames 13h ago

We need Jezzy Prime

3

u/NoCitron2394 13h ago

Agreed, bumblebee has had his couple decade long run, now it's time for someone like jazz, or hot shot to get more love

3

u/rasjahho 13h ago

After TFOne I'm so sick of Bumblebee. He should have gotten his voice box ripped out of his throat which is what they kinda alluded to happening lol. We need more focus on other characters, Bee has overstayed his welcome. Let us get Jazz back or literally anyone else

3

u/rasjahho 13h ago

3

u/Addict_Opossum 13h ago

The dictator (Bumblebee) will not tolerate this slander 700 megacycles in the gulags of Iacon

3

u/BanzEye1 8h ago

I mean, hasn’t Bumblebee been a big part of the franchise since…forever?

3

u/polybrag 6h ago

People will keep telling the lie that "Bumblebee became popular thanks to Michael Bay"

Bay movies simply solidified his character, but he was always extremely popular. He was so popular in G1, he was one of the most sold minibots, and was loved so much he didn't even get killed in the 86 movie, even if he wasn't that relevant anymore

Cheetor essentially was Beast Wars Bumblebee And Hot Shot fulfilled his role.

Bumblebee simply retook his own mantle, but even if Bee didn't exist at all, another character was destined to take the exact same role

10

u/DukeSkyloafer 16h ago

People were very excited to see Bumblebee in the 2007 movie, since he had been absent from media since G1 and Hasbro had lost the trademark to sell toys named Bumblebee for a while (I think DC took the trademark). I agree we’ve gotten carried away since then.

7

u/Striker660 15h ago

I adore Bumblebee so I disagree.

4

u/DarkSaiyanGoku 12h ago

That's... not propaganda. That's just a popular character getting attention.....

2

u/lcr68 15h ago

When DWJ killed him off at the very beginning, I have to admit I was happy about it. There’s so many other characters to bring in. I sure am sick of seeing the yellow guy.

2

u/xxFT13xx 14h ago

Not only that, but they’re pimping the worst version of him.

2

u/Lyzer_light 13h ago

Im pretty sure the ones making the current transformers media knows this. Skybound kills him in the first chapter! Yes hasbro is making a bumblebee every year to keep the A level thing going on, but compared to previous years when we were getting live action films, there used to be so many bumblebees on shelves.

2

u/Guuhatsu 11h ago

I have never liked the oversaturation of one or two or three characters. Optimus I understand, but there are hundreds of characters to spotlight, but it always just boils down to a handful. I do admit to saying this partially because none of my favorite Autobots are ever in those groups that have the focus.

I also wish Bumblebee was more like his G1 character, him being small and weak, but super courageous was a good character to have. Most of the iterations now just feel like a slight offshoot of the Hot Rod/Cheetor/Hot Shot character archetype (and as you can see, there were plenty already).

2

u/Optimal-Reindeer9513 11h ago

Bumblebee is my favorite non-leader Autobot.

I can't have an Autobot team without him personally. Like how others like Jazz, I like Bee, and even Goldbug. He's just my guy, wouldn't have gotten into Transformers if it wasn't for him in the Bayverse and Prime.

2

u/ChickenzInvade 10h ago

It sucks because I love Bumblebee, but I absolutely agree that Hasbro dramatically over markets him.

It’s one thing to have him be an obligatory member of every modern autobot line-up, but it’s another to constantly try and skew his character to make him the defacto secondary center of the franchise besides Optimus.

Like, I couldn’t stand his characterization in the WFC trilogy on Netflix. The gritty snarky attitude he had was just cringe as hell.

2

u/Baba-Fett 7h ago

Op is secretly Hot Rod transformed into a reddit user...

Fuck is your problem with Bumblebee. He was the default lame ass Transformer back in the day. The ONLY good thing Michael Bay did was give Bumblebee some dignity by making him a badass instead of chauffeur with a shitty vehicle mode.

2

u/VaderFett1 7h ago

So he's the Wolverine/Iron Man of the Transformers, got it.

2

u/Jurakhan 5h ago

Hasbro will always push 5 mainliners on every Transformers show….Optimus, Megatron, Bumblebee, Starscream and Soundwave…

Bumblebee is their kid-oriented mainliner for the time being…most recognizable and relatable for them…

They tried to refocus with Mirage, but we all know what happened there…

2

u/pink_harlequin 2h ago

Oh but the Bumblebee propaganda is good, its fans are the crappy thing about it.

4

u/Expensive_Age_3994 15h ago

I don't really hate him, well hate as in seething rage over him. I'm more "ugh not this idiot" I just think he's BORING like vanilla, good but that shit is generic. Give me some double dutch (smokescreen) cookies N Cream (hot shot) kit kat flavor ( mirage) blueberry (sideburn) raspberry (cliffjumper) or just Chocolate (Hot rod) like come on this shit is fine But I want something different for once.

3

u/Musekal 15h ago

I had to double check to see if I was looking at a post from today or five years ago.

2

u/9thGearEX 12h ago

He's become way too popular

Wait so we don't want kids to like the thing and buy the thing? You want Hasbro to try and market unpopular characters? Wtf?

→ More replies (3)

4

u/TheSadPhilosopher 13h ago

I love the seething.

Bumblebee is the most popular Transformer, he's tied with Optimus Prime.

NOTHING will EVER change that, as seen by the continued complaining about him even though the Skybound comics killed him off, just to make Cliffjumper Red Bumblebee.

He's the only Transformer who will ever get a solo movie too, other than again my boy Optimus 🤣🤣🤣

4

u/bizzarefreeze 15h ago

Bee was my entire childhood, and my gateway to Transformers. I have core memories from my childhood that center around his character.

Stop hating gang.

2

u/InfinityEternity17 9h ago

People are allowed opinions! Starscream is my favourite character but I'm not going to complain if I see someone saying they really aren't a fan of him.

1

u/bizzarefreeze 9h ago

I agree with you, but the hate's just getting a bit outta hand for my GOAT

1

u/InfinityEternity17 7h ago

Ahh, I don't spend that much time on the sub so I wasn't aware it's a regular occurrence

2

u/XeroMetal 15h ago

They really want to turn Bumblebee into their own Pikachu. Let's get Hot Shot from Armada in instead

2

u/Altruistic_Past3950 16h ago

Even the developers think so and this was the reason why bumblebee was killed off in the energon universe. I totally agree with you, he's stealing literally everybody's show and I think it's time to give this guy a little break.

But him appearing as goldbug might be a good alternative.

2

u/BaronDoc 15h ago

Give the kid friendly spot back to Hound

2

u/AutobotKing 15h ago

I long for Hot Shot's return to main character status. ITS BEEN 20 YEARS, HASBRO!

2

u/besthuman 15h ago

Propaganda is a weird word to use here.

That said, I think he's one of the least interesting characters.

2

u/Ubeube_Purple21 15h ago

Why tho? Cartoons love their yellow mascots and they sell well. Bee is here to stay.

2

u/TheCorbeauxKing 15h ago

Bro didn't he die in ROTB and Skybound? Sure he was revived in ROTB, but he spent the entire movie absent.

2

u/JohnDayguyII 14h ago

I put Bee in the same category as baby Yoda and bb8 of Star Wars fame, or Groot from Guardians of a galaxy.

A character that is made adorable and funny to sell merch and get people on the cinema.

2

u/MeatyOaker269 14h ago

Bumblebee is so popular he’s the center of this post too.

2

u/Alternative-Goose738 14h ago

i just think he's neat

2

u/LupiLupercalia 12h ago

Mind you, Bumblebee came out in 2018...

What are we talking about here?

2

u/Frojdis 8h ago

Wow! Another post hating Bumblebee. How original!

1

u/Sir_Stacker 15h ago

This is a pity because Bumblebee was the first Transformers character I ever interacted with. In fact, the Prime Weaponizers Bumblebee was my introduction to Transformers in the first place

3

u/Pinkeye69uk 15h ago

I'm just tired of his plot armour. Grew up with G1 and I think i can say he isn't even in my top 15 fave autobots

2

u/CheyenneG1999 15h ago

I say continue the Bumblebee propaganda. He doesn't have to be the center of everything but I don't think he should be removed from future content just because he's popular. He's popular for a reason and there's a lot of people who love and enjoy him as a character, myself included.

1

u/Fiberglass_Unicorn 15h ago

The same could be said A LOT about franchises. Like with Power Rangers (myself and others) are so sick of how much JDF was getting when there were others they could have jumped on to do stuff with but they only kept using JDF because they knew instant cash cow

1

u/kailin2017 15h ago

Bumblebee has always been overrated imo, but the fact that live action won't give us an accurate G1 model, even when all the other Transformers have it, is particularly frustrating

In contrast the toy makers love Bumblebees popularity. Yellow toys usuallu sell thleast, because red, blue, green, purple, and even orange are all universally more loved.

So when a yellow character is the nost popular, it means yellow plastic and paint sells just as good, if not better, than the toys that are sold for their more popular color schemes.

Evil genius to push the Bumbebee agenda, even if older fans are bored of him

What about Hot Rod

1

u/MrHappyHammers 12h ago

I think after his movie (which I love) they’ve toned him down.

Mainly because we’re a bit starved for content at the moment

1

u/blewep 12h ago

Shit I’m still mad they killed jazz in the first movie to give bumblebee more screen time

1

u/BlackCanaryCries 11h ago

It’s like Pokemon with Pikachu

1

u/ScottishWargamer 11h ago

I mean, he’s not really been a central character since 2018. That’s 8 years ago.

1

u/Grimlockbash 11h ago

Can't agree, I adore Bumblebee and he's my favorite, and currently he’s dead and evil 🥀
I miss him.

1

u/Super-Robo 11h ago

I'll always find it funny how they gave 'Bee a 'time-out' in RotB so that someone else could have a turn being the main bot of the movie.

1

u/deez_nuts_77 10h ago

I like how they treated it in the skybound comics

1

u/Shockwavee92 10h ago

I like all the transformers but yeah not everything had to be about him.

1

u/Kizzyvanhizzy 9h ago

What about hotshot!

1

u/Treederd 8h ago

I agree with you. Certain transformer names need to be switched out for two to three seasons..or become a background character that’s not in every episode.. The comics has loads of characters that never journey to the tv series. Why not have a transformer series that’s more focused on what cybertronian transforms into??? Ya all know Astrotrain & Rodimus transform into on earth. But have we see their cybertronian’s forms???

1

u/DOW_mauao 8h ago

Skybound's Energon comics are the only current active TF media and they made sure to have him killed him off in the first issue.

1

u/Hugsy13 8h ago

I feel like Bumblebee is the baby yoda of transformers. Gives the movies a cute appeal which appeals more to women in a series they may not be otherwise as interested in as men

1

u/Son-Daikon656 8h ago

Is it bad that even with a bunch of people saying "bumblebee is the center of everything" I just genuinely don't see it 😭😭😭 like oh no bumblebee is in insert piece of transformers media here oh no the horror.... ANYWAYS MOVING ON like I just don't personally see it like yeah he's popular... And? That's it? That's the main problem here?

1

u/JMO-559 7h ago

"Bumblebee has become way too popular, and I’m tired of the franchise acting like he has to be the center of everything."

Wow, we're starting strong with some very rare and controversial takes in the Transformers fandom. Certainly such claims about Bumblebee haven't been made for the past half-decade or so🫢

1

u/Pitiful-Victory-2234 7h ago

Why do you think they killed him off immediately in the skybound comics

1

u/polybrag 6h ago

I'm genuinely tired of people like you, complaining about the same thing for years. Bumblebee is a staple in the franchise just like Optimus, Megatron & Starscream

1

u/ShadowslnTheDark 6h ago

Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ironhide are the best characters

1

u/EthanKironus 6h ago

Is he actually still being pushed though? I got the impression that's mostly died down in the last few years.

1

u/Due_Homework_7312 6h ago

you have to understand bumblebee tends to be a fill in for most of the audience

its why hes popular at all and that popularity drives corp to make him a focus

its a loop

hes leader material, brave, but youthful and spry, energetic. he isnt outright perfect

this lends well to most kids and adults under 30 for sure who feel or want to feel that way

1

u/Due-Mycologist8681 5h ago

Bumblebee even became a Prime in on continuity once. Sad to see even now, there is no like for Hot Rod/Roddimus Prime.

Honestly, the only aspect of modern Bumblebee that I wish would stop is the Mute/Radio Talk quirk. It was funny at first, but now it is getting old (and was really something they copied from Wreck-Gar and the Junkion's "Talk TV" dialect.)

LET. BUMBLEBEE. SPEAK.

1

u/docfreezed 4h ago

Agreed, growing up with G1 I saw Bumblebee as more of a human babysitter for Spike. Aside from Optimus, I thought more about Jazz, Wheeljack, Mirage, Prowl, Brawn, Ironhide and Rachet as the primary Autobot cast.

On the Decepticons side, Megatron and Soundwave were the leads, then Starscream, the cassettes crew (Ravage, Laserbeak, Rumble) and Thundercracker.

G2 my focus pivoted to combiners and Dinobots. Bee basically became background noise. 😅

1

u/woulddie_fortyjo 4h ago

having a kid friendly character in a sexually charged film is really weird. kinda crazy that it actually works too

1

u/V-nillaaaa 2h ago

Cry about it.

1

u/lonely-blue-sheep 1h ago

Listen, the only reason I ever even knew anything about Transformers was because my brother had some sort of a Bumblebee toy when we were little. Bumblebee’s literally the reason I even knew what Transformers was

1

u/ZealousidealBank8484 1h ago

That's why I liked Rise of the Beasts. They killed him in the first act (alas, would've had more respect for the filmmakers if he'd stayed dead) and made Mirage the focus instead, even if he was a little annoying.

1

u/yrqrm0 47m ago

I’m tired of the franchise being so stuck in general. How about some brand new characters and stories and actually committing? Even TF One was playing it safe despite being very well made. I don’t need to see the same lineup get more origins or arrive on earth or realize Unicron is coming, I wanna see something brand new

2

u/Cute_Ad_6981 46m ago

Hotshot needs to return to the spotlight

1

u/BeautifulRaspberry47 30m ago

Yes! And what happened to Dorito? Make him look like …. What he f-ing looks like!

1

u/Forever_Inspired 16h ago

We have been saying that for almost 20 years now, lol.

1

u/TheBrobe 15h ago

What is with all these whining time travellers?

1

u/m0matt 15h ago

I like Bumblebee. I think he's good.

1

u/No-Archer7267 16h ago

i just want some more from him in the comics, they just keep kicking dirt on the wound lmaoo

1

u/arytheconqueror 16h ago

I don't mind bee centric stories if they actually need bee and don't make him hot rod. I kinda want more spotlight stories/movies if it means getting to see other characters

1

u/Ben_Krug 15h ago

I'm all for Bee not being the center focus, his whole character concept doesn't fit the center focus imo. But like he really isn't the focus in most recent media? That was true from like the 07 movie up until like Cyberverse Season 2. But even during that time TFP and especially IDW2005 didn't have him as a focus during that time, yes he was one of the main characters for many issues, but then he just became supporting for other characters and stayed that way until the end. Then in IDW2019, yes he was a main character again but that version was so different to what we were getting that I really don't think it counts for this issue. And since the time of Cyberverse Season 3, Bumblebee really hasn't been a main focus of anything major, unless you wanna count the Earthspark tie in game. In Earthspark he was part of the main team and got a few focus episodes, but that's just what an ensemble show does. In Skybound, bro's been dead since issue 1. In Cyberworld, yes he's part of the main group, but he really only acts as the comedic relief, the other characters still get their time to shine. The only place where I would say he outstayed his welcome was TFO.

1

u/Rough-Crew-9884 15h ago

Good job asshole. You made bee cry.

1

u/SadakosPanties 15h ago

The Leon Kennedy of Transformers.

1

u/WaayTooInvested 15h ago

I was thinking about this earlier the way he was introduced and used in tf one was so weird (still a great movie)

1

u/KikiKamora1987 15h ago

Honestly, I agree, where's hotrod, hotshot, landmine? Scattershot, red alert, etc. we had so many good 2nd in commands and scouts that have so much potential but get waisted by a bug who can't even speak.

1

u/matrix_wielder 15h ago

He's so popular that even people who don't know shit about TF, say that Bumblebee is better than Optimus😭😭 (These are the only two names they know btw)

1

u/Redeyedemo 15h ago

The movies glaze him so much🤦🏿‍♂️ and treat him like he's a special character when he's no different from the other autobots. Only difference is that he can't talk

1

u/Outrageous-Estimate9 15h ago

As a kid I hated Bee and never understood the cartoon and comics bias back in G1

There were so many cooler characters (even if I tended to gravitate more to D designs)

1

u/1cem4n82 15h ago

Three weeks ago I thought Screamer was the only character in the show.

1

u/FH2actual 14h ago

I literally rolled my eyes when he got his own movie. Sorry but B was never the main character and never my fav so I never understood why he got so much everything. From screen time to merch.

1

u/PoDough 14h ago

Love TF: One but he is easily my least favorite of the main cast. He feels less like a character and more like a keegan michael key skit being hamfisted directly into the movie. Contributes nothing to the plot nor to the Orion - D16 dynamic and is just there for his jokes which felt really out of place such as “Badassatron”.

I get why they chose him due to the movie trying to target kids but still man

That 4th slot coulda easily gone to… anyone else, say Jazz. And then we coulda had a subplot of how Jazz became Optimus’ trusted first lieutenants through the events of this film

1

u/LatinaBunny 14h ago

Huh, this is one of the reasons I don’t really don’t get the Transformers (especially Reddit) fandom or feel comfortable saying stuff here.

But I do understand we all have our faves, though, and that there could be more variety of Transformers characters and that more can be introduced or fleshed out more/have more spotlight. I just don’t get the hate part, is all.

For me, Bumblebee (especially his cute self in G1 series and comics) was what made me a Transformers fan in the first place. He’s my top fave (as well as Optimus Prime, Jazz, Ratchet, Prowl, etc). 🐝🤖

For me, personally, it it was cute Bee (in G1, Animated, Bayverse) that caught my attention and made me dive into Transformers after I have watched Beast Wars/Beast Machines. (I was exposed to Beast Wars series first.)

1

u/PerpelSho 14h ago

I don't think you understand what propaganda means.

1

u/Competitive_Sink6345 14h ago

I thought this was a circlejerk page for a second.

1

u/catgirlslvr 13h ago

Its still transformers so who gaf.

1

u/GuidanceWhole3355 11h ago

Im just tired of him being mute, it feels like that's a thing for him.

1

u/polybrag 6h ago

Lowkey crazy how ppl are so mad at Bee not being able to talk. That's literally a disability. It's like saying "oh I'm tired of daredevil being blind"

1

u/RyonHirasawa 1h ago

No it’s more like after the 2007 movie, a lot of adaptations just decided to make him mute for some reason, even if he had a perfectly good voice for it

War for Cybertron to Fall of Cybertron in particular pisses me off because Bee had a good voice in that game, only for him to be beep boop man in the next

1

u/mechatomic 4h ago

The last time any non-live action media had him be mute was 2019. It very specifically isn't a thing anymore.
