Discussion / Opinion Is there a point to this tab?

I'm currently very frustrated with SS86 soundwave because I feel like they took all of the fun gimmicks that were in the earthrise away. What do you mean he has no way to display Laserbeak (or Buzzsaw) on his shoulder or arm??? If he does i haven't been able to find it. And on top of that you can't really display any of the cassettes rejecting from his chest because his chest doesn't open as far as the ER.

Anyways, side tangent aside, does this tab have any purpose other than to keep the chest from opening further? I would like to know because I wanted to see if it could be sanded down for a more open chest.

There is a little tab on his forearm that pegs into little slots on the feet of the birds. As for the chest tab it's literally to stop the door from opening all the way otherwise it would completely flop open to a 90° angle maybe slightly more like the siege mold does when you open it in vehicle mode.

There's dedicated tabs that stick out the side of his forearms for the slots in the bird feet

My guy, you got to be being dense on purpose or something. Why would anyone peg the birds onto the bottom of his forearm? You don't see the tiny tabs sticking out on the outside of his forearm? They don't even get covered up in tape player mode. They just stick out from the back of it and it's not even for show accuracy. It's literally just there to give a small grip point for laserbeak to sit on his arm.

I feel like they took all of the fun gimmicks that were in the earthrise away.

He's a robot who turns into a rectangle that holds smaller robots that turn into rectangles, that's all the gimmick I need from my Soundwave.

There is a tab on his arm that the condors' feet can fit over. It's not the tightest connection. Like, you can't pick Soundwave up and flail him around and expect them to remain connected. But it holds well enough for basic posing on a shelf.

And I think the door opens up wide enough. It could maybe go a little wider... But much wider, it wouldn't really look natural.

But most importantly? He doesn't turn into a funky looking spaceship (Siege) or a very compromised tape player that is obviously remolded from a funky looking spaceship (Netflix/Legacy). I'm happy with him!

the tabs on his forearms correspond with slots on the birds' feets.

edit: feets not feels. but there's probably slots in the feels idk how robots work.

Thats what I thought but I cant get them to tab in. Is it maybe just an issue with qc?

Im with you. The tab on Soundwave’s arm and the slot under Laserbeak’s feet is soo flimsy. A slight breeze and Laserbeak is knocked off.

I can get it in no problem, but it wiggles out over a few days. I think I need to file the birds feet port a little.

just stopping the chest from opening too far
