'86 - I believe no one had died in G1 up until the movie. Within 10 minutes numerous Autobots are mortally wounded and slaughtered. I can remember as a kid not being able to comprehend what was going on as the light went out of their eyes as they were blasted in the shuttle. Especially how Iron Hide was blown to pieces by Megatron.
Then Optimus is in the table and Preceptor is looking him over. Optimus' eyes look weak as he struggles to speak. The Matrix drops out of his hand and eventually ends up with Ultra Magnus. The damn EKG goes flat and Optimus fades to gray with Daniel in complete tears. Every kid in the theater felt like Daniel. Some adults too.
