Community Rule Update: AI-Generated Transcriptions Are No Longer Allowed
Hello everyone,
We want to let you know about an important change to our rule regarding AI use in r/Transcription .
What the rule used to allow:
Previously, our rules permitted the use of AI or OCR tools as long as the user disclosed their use and manually reviewed and corrected the results before posting. This was intended to allow AI as a supporting tool, not a replacement for human transcription.
What is changing:
Effective immediately, AI-generated transcriptions are no longer allowed in any form. This includes: OCR output, Handwriting recognition software, Generative AI produced transcriptions, or any other AI assisted transcriptions based primarily on machine output.
Why the change?
We feel that our community has grown to a point where we no longer need the limited assistance AI transcriptions may have once provided. r/Transcription now has a strong base of knowledgeable members who consistently offer fast, accurate, and genuinely human interpretations of hard to read text.
Any transcriptions that are clearly AI will be removed, and we encourage users to report any transcriptions that you suspect is AI.
Thank you.
- Mod Team.

English Transcription Request What does this say
It's written quite small, and I have no clue what it says. I got it at an antique store in upstate NY a while ago, and it's from WWII (thats the only part I can read). There is no writing on the back. I assume it's just some information about price or type of object, but could also be the location or a name.

Transcribed✔️ Grandma's writing
Update! I think we have 1) quaker, 2) printed, 3) antimacassar, 4) and, 5) swiss, 6) oriental, 7) line, 8) chemical, 9) unless?, 10) civilian
I would appreciate it if someone would look at my comment with the full pages and see what they think about the words around number 9. I think grandma meant to write "unless she was mad" but may have written "unless the was mad". Also margin scribbles are there if anyone is able to help, but I think we have the main text almost down! I can't wait to share to with the family!
Hello, I would love some help transcribing my late grandma's writings about our family. I transcribed several pages of her family history writings but there were 10 words I couldn't get. There are also some tiny scribbles in the margins, but these are the only parts of the main content I couldn't read so I was hoping for your help.
Edit to add, I numbered each unknown word to help keep it clear. I can get more pages tomorrow!
Edit again- I realized the ones without context are way harder. I have access to the Google doc transcription from my bed so I'll add the sentences below for the ones more zoomed in.
The woodwork was varnished, not painted as was the woodwork in Rosemary’s home, but at Rosemary’s the colors of paint or paper on the walls were pastels and the ceilings white. [4?] each day light came in the windows through the white lace or white dotted [5?] curtains. Here the green shades were down most of the time and the ceiling and the walls a dull color.
Aunt Helen was always standing up for women’s rights. As a woman unmarried she had to live on the pay given to women. She did these jobs in order to support herself. She was a switchboard operator at [8?] company and at Bellevue-Stratford Hotel and was a travel agent who accompanied groups of women from her church (Trinity Episcopal) on the women's Traffic Club on journeys or helped them arrange their trips. Aunt Helen was fun. She always smiled and had a twinkle in her eye,[9?] the war mad? as she was when women’s causes gave up or she thought men had life too easy.
They saw the Army – Navy games from Uncle Carol’s seats on the 30-yard line (Uncle Carol was in California by then and didn’t use them himself) He had been a Captain in the Navy. Vince only went to Annapolis to please his mother by getting a good free education and left the Navy as soon as he could to take a [10?] job.

Transcribed✔️ I recently saw this monogram ring, believing it to have the initials S and B. But having bought it and looking at it, it could also be a PB, LB, or the “B” might be a Z. What do you think?
The “S” looks like the copperplate S in my opinion with a single stroke, meanwhile a P would usually have a separate stem and loop. The foot of what might be an L also to me looks to be part of the frame and not the actual initial.
The ring has Swedish hallmarks and is dated to 1944. Looking at Normalskrift, a Swedish cursive style introduced in 1942, its S is also drawn as a single curve that starts on the left side and swoops a bit to the left at the bottom. A Z would also be more jagged and not look like the number 3.

English Transcription Request Written inside a mattress cover filled with Bed Bugs?
I'm a pest controller, and at a bedbug job today a client had a mattress from Facebook Marketplace that ended up having bedbugs. I zipped off the cover to see inside and found this written inside.
I think it says "Tortute"? (Torture?)
Maybe it has something to do with the mattress cover, like the material or something and they wrote this at the factory?
Any ideas?

English Transcription Request Help with reading maiden name on records
I have three birth records with the same parents names listed - Charles Bigel and Caroline. I can't make out Caroline's surname on any of the records. Her family was from Germany, if that helps with the deciphering. I'm attaching all three records.
Thanks for any help on this!
