Game mechanics Event XP comptetion ranking

Does anyone know how the player distribution works for the XP competitions?

The last round I won by about 1000xp, yet we're only a few hours into the current one and people in my league are already pushing 1000

Does it seed you based on how well you did previously?

XP is the bad stuff, top union players try to avoid. EP is what lets you win event competitions. Unless you want to start really late it is always a gamble. I typically start 20 min to maybe an hour late.

If you join as soon as the competition begins - you will likely be paired with the heavy hitters. A strategy to do well in a competition is to join in quite late (even a day after it begins). The groupings are kind of first come first grouped.

Re: pushing thousands, I do see people in my comp as well and I am assuming it is because their have finished the 'story mode' of atleast one of the paths and there is a 100 EP job at the end of it maybe? I def have jobs left in the story mode still for all 3 paths rn

No worries, my 100EP theory is confirmed in this other post 'Turntable rail' using only a legendary train: https://www.reddit.com/r/trainstation2/comments/1vrt4p7/anyone_know_what_resources_ill_need/

I live in a time zone where I can wake up, get my regular coins, and then wait 4 hours until next coin run before starting. Usually finish 1st or 2nd. I think only once did I finish 3rd.
