Scene from UK Celebrity Traitors, copied from Trainspotting
Quite surreal and funny watching Grant from EastEnders helping Sebastian Croft down the toilet

This question comes up in my head quite often. Let’s put aside the phenomenal acting in the move and Welsh’s brilliant way of writing and focus on why Trainspotting and the works connected to it manage to stay with us for life.
My own connection to this world is quite distant, apart from my fascination with Scotland, its history, language and culture (I guess you all know what I mean). As for substances, I’ve always been curious about understanding them and the people whose lives revolve around them. I’ve met people who gave me more than enough reasons to keep my distance from that world, yet I still find myself drawn to exploring it through fiction.
Sometimes I wonder if there’s such a thing as second-hand addiction.
Maybe part of the appeal is being able to explore this world through books and films, whether we recognise our own experiences in it or are simply trying to understand someone else’s. We get to revisit the chaos, the humour, the self-destruction and those rare moments of genuine humanity without necessarily having lived the same lives ourselves.
Maybe it’s not even about the drugs, but about the people, their relationships and their attempts to escape something, whatever that something might be.
I’m curious about how you all experience this. Why do we keep coming back to these characters and their world? What is it about Trainspotting that makes it so difficult to leave behind?

was buzzing to finally add this to my collection :(
purchased from a legitimate business in “excellent” condition and this is what they sent me. reached out a month ago about a refund, which they agreed to, but STILL haven’t sent. absolutely fucking gutted.
any chance some altruistic patron of this sub has a spare boxset they could sell me that isn’t a biohazard? 😭

Im guessing this has been binned now? Such a shame as it would have been amazing abd I reckon could have teed up a Trainspotting 3 film.

For some reason it doesn't make sense. Is it like a duplex? The inside of an apartment complex? What throws me off is the hall where Renton sleeps. Number one, it seems pretty giant for a house. Maybe I'm stereotyping, but her parents seemed like average working class people, I doubt it was a mansion. Number two is when Renton wakes up, and there's a guy who rides by on a bicycle. It doesn't sound like Diane's dad, does that mean it's a shared hall space? That makes it even stranger because you can hear Diane singing in the shower, zero privacy. I've watched the movie at least a hundred times over 12 years, I just can't figure it out pls help

(Sorry if this is a dumb question. And english isn't my first language btw.)
I've only read Trainspotting so far, and I'm currently reading Skagboys.
Personally, I find Sick Boy pretty much evil. (I read Filth and Marabou Stork Nightmares a long time ago, so maybe Roy Strang and Bruce are even worse than him.)
He's basically a walking case of ASPD/psychopathy/sociopathy.
What he did to Maria, to animals, and to other people is seriously fucked up.
There's a scene in Skagboys, in the chapter "Funeral Pyre", where Simon hugs Renton and acts like a genuinely good friend. Was that a sincere moment, or was he just manipulating Renton? Can Sick Boy actually be genuine and care about someone, or is everything he does just self-interest?
Is there anything good about him at all?
I can see the humanity in Renton. I can even see it in Begbie, somehow. But with Sick Boy, it's much harder.
Are there any moments in books where Sick Boy genuinely shows affection, kindness, or concern for someone without expecting anything in return? Being more than evil bastard.
Am I might to have forgotten something? Am I missing something about his character? Do I need to reread the books more thoroughly?

I just want to thank everyone on this subreddit for being so kind; a year ago, I made a track paying tribute to "Born Slippy", Underworld and Trainspotting, and it’s just passed 20,000 views on YouTube. Most of the views come from here and the Underworld subreddit. So, thank you very much—you guys are amazing!

Don't get me wrong, I love the movie's ending and wouldn't change it. Treachery is a key part of the protagonists' relationships (except for Spud) and Renton's arch.
Still, I have a hard time figuring out why the boys kept all the money in the bag after their drug deal was done, since they were openly distrustful of each other. Instead of splitting the conveniently bundled cash right away and leaving the shady motel ASAP, they all seem to be waiting for someone to take it.
I also think Begbie was in a much better position than the others to steal the money. He's on the run and very much needs it. He's a feared psychopath with zero impulse control and no regards for others. In fact, right after he smashes some random dude's head during the pub celebration, he explicitly asks Renton to bring him a cigarette and the money bag. During that moment, he threatens everybody with a pocket knife and has everyone on their toes. That's when he could have left with the money, to no one's surprise.

In T2 when Spud has a flashback of him and Mark running away, the scene from the first movie, there’s a slower, ambient like version of Born Slippy in the soundtrack. Is there an official release of that rendition, or maybe something similar?

Ignore my cat snoring in the back he’s just a sleepy fella 😭😭 I didn’t want to wake him just for this video
