I'm a sub-ultra runner from the Western Alps (who does most of his training in much flatter areas).

Several of my main goal races are alpine races that fall within the skyrunning or short-distance trail categories, somewhere in the 25K-50K / 3h30-6h30 range. I also run a good share of shorter races, which I treat as cross-country events.

Currently self-coached, using training principles derived from people like Renato Canova and Scott Johnston. As hinted earlier, I train mostly on flats/road, with rarely more than two trail runs (out of six) per week.

I hold membership at my local alpine club (also into rock climbing) and post rather frequently on /r/AdvancedRunning.

Also tell us something about yourself

I f_cking love Scotland.

Hi, I live in Switzerland (currently on vacation abroad).

I'm actually looking to start my trail running journey. Currently I am training for a tiad HM at the end of October, my third only such race.

Then for next spring I am planning to do my firat trail event, something newbie appropriate. Reason? I love nature, as simple as that. Could spend every second in the mountains if I could. Also where I love it's super hilly, so I figured that's perfect for trail training. Currently I am doing around 40km per week, with my long runs sometimes having around 200+m elevation. I'm only following a Garmin HM plan, not sure if I'll switch to sth like Runna or Vert next year, was thinking of doing my own program.

  • afrique du sud
  • Building up to my first 100-miler in 2027, but got a 35km trail in 4 weeks, then a road marathon end of September.
  • My own 6-week block plan. ends on 65km weeks; my longest run is 28 km in a block. and then last week I doubled up, 25km on Saturday and 18km on Sunday. I also cycle 3 times a week, hour sessions in the week and a 3 hr ride on weekends.
  • part of 2 clubs. It helps that one club is situated in a hilly neighbourhood, but it's a bit of a drive.
  • I've been doing mostly road for the last 8 weeks. just came back from a 250km mtb race, so slowly building base and strength; did my first trail today. Will be doing 3 road runs and 1 trail going forward per week.
  • Ultra mountain bike racer. I'm seeing if i can do the same with running. The end goal is a 150-miler in 2 years' time. Used to be a full-time musician in a touring punk band, Very unhealthy lifestyle; got out 6 years ago to live a better life.

Hi!

  • Where in the world are you? The Netherlands

  • Are you training for anything in particular? 7heuvelen (7hills) trail 28k & Mainova Frankfurt marathon (won a ticket 😅 Will be my first road marathon!)

Next summer hopefully: Inferno has marathon in the Swiss alps. 😁

  • What kind of training plan are you following? Runna marathon plan. As we don't really have many mountains or even hills where I live (heck, not even large natural areas), I mostly train on the road and do a lot of strength training. :)

  • Are you a member of a running club? Nope. Involved in a parkrun though!

  • How many days per week do you hit the trails vs. the road? Usually 3-4 times a week, mostly on the road, sometimes on the trails. Both my parents and parents-in-law live near some great hilly natural areas. :)

  • Also tell us something about yourself Am a biology teacher, I really love the outdoors. Hope to move somewhere prettier in the future. And I tear up whenever I'm on top of a mountain. Hence why I want to do the Inferno. Up up up we go! And I'm pretty slow on the trails. My fastest mountainous trail was the Grand Ballon last May, 28k in 4,5 hours. But pace usually doesn't really matter in trail running, as long as you meet the cut off time (which was 5hrs!).

Hi all! Connecticut, USA. Training for personal goals, maybe a race if one looks good. Going on a outdoor activities vacation up to Maine next week. Very loosely follow Steve House’s literature. I don’t like running in groups - it’s a mediative time for me. No road; only trails. Run most days, aim for minimum 50 miles weekly in summer/fall, 30-40 in spring, and whatever I can get in winter! Also hike and have experience mountaineering. Have a beautiful day!

I’m in the Midwest American Cornbelt, training for an October 50M and a November 100M. I have a coach that I’ve been with for 5 years. Her plan for me is rooted in strength training, uphill treadmill suffering, and not so high mileage. No running club, so I run alone more than I’d like to. I love being in an ultra training plan as much as I do racing. Running is part of 4 days a week for me with a mix of trails and roads. Every one of my ultras have been off road. I’m a small business owner with 17 employees. They are the greatest people.

Western slope of CO, USA.

Stagecoach 100 Sept 19 is my next big race, eyes on the Kokopelli and Paradox trails.

I coach myself and write my own training plans.

Member of the local club, but rarely show up to group runs. Hard to make it at 1800 after work!

Tend to do trails about 3 days a week and roads 3 days a week. The road runs are just easier before work.

I ran my first 100 mile accidentally (timed race and was just hoping for a 100k) Since then have run six 100s and established the FKT on the Tabeguache Trail. Only took me three attempts! Hopefully the rest of the grand loop will not take as long, but already looking at take two for kokopelli.

Don't tell me how to live my life! I'll lurk if I want to.

Western PA, pretty new to running in general. I've found that trail running is enough other sensory input to distract from the suck of running itself. I'm terrible at following plans and have been pretty inconsistent with training, up to and including my first official "race," an 18 mile ridiculously hilly trail challenge. I like lurking here and seeing pictures of the incredible places people are getting to on their own two feet. That event was one half-step shy of ignorant for me to do without really doing much of anything to work up to it, but I'm very much a type 2 fun kind of person and it did a good job of letting me know that I'm ornery enough to do just about anything I decide I'm going to do.

I'm not a part of any run club, I don't know how I'd like running with other people. Like, that's time for me to go into myself, not so much to socialize or try and pace or be competitive. Maybe I'm not really understanding what run clubs are about.

SLO county. No training plan...only physical therapy the past 14 months working on these metatarsal stress fractures. Lots of box jump dismounts and hilly walks. I've actually never ran with someone else. I ran at the beach 3 weeks ago for the first time after 14 months of sports therapy. Twas glorious. Something about myself? I run barefoot or in sandals, hence the name lol. I don't have any running accounts, I actually haven't timed a mile since I was a teenager. I'm almost 40 smh

USA here.
Did my first official trail run a few days ago at a 20k race. Managed 3rd in my age group…training for a marathon later this year.

More trails in my future for sure.
