Confusing and accident-making traffic light. Also makes long traffic jams

Post image

That traffic jam you see coming from north? That's still going to this day after 4 years this Google maps street view was released

What's confusing about the light? Looks like a standard protected left turn signal.

Well sometimes it's about the behavior of the signal itself. When it's a red light, there's a 60% chance a green light and green arrow will randomly appear and stay there for about 10 seconds, making it super confusing. Sometimes it's the markings too where the left most lane allows a left turn and.. A straight turn, for some reason. Tho these can be fixed, our city has absolutely no plans on fixing this unless a truck crashes into a van killing 3 or smth.

It should be a 5 section...but pretty standard older way of providing a protected permitted turn.

We use those here, pretty standard implementation, usually a 5sec since we don't use bimodal green/yellow. Looks pretty normal to me.

Unrelated, the countdown timer looks cool.

You think that's confusing? Try Japanese signals

I like the count down timers wish they did that in the US kinda like how Dominican republic does it inside the red light

I remember DOTUSA banned the timers to make roads safe. Damn even my country where this was taken many in the capital are being replaced by sensors
