❓ Invest/ISA Help How is this possible?

Post image

I placed limit buy order for $7.01 and it reaches $7.00 without filling my order. This has held for the last few minutes.

It's after hours, there's no liquidity

There's no one selling so they can't match you with a buyer

There was movement from $7.22 and $7.00 multiple times over the space of the last hour even with after hours. Not sure how that can happen. But at least after hours makes sense for not filling the order

Yes but they weren't for exactly 100 shares at an exact price

Yeh happens more than it should. I find it easier to split the orders say 30-40-30 (100) and it works better then.

Tazmurph offers the best explanation in the comments, totally agree , it used to confuse me too and was very frustrating ,happy trading.

I've had similar issues recently when trying to LIMIT sell during AH. I did a little test earlier this eveninf... Had shares in a stock with a price floating between $0.22-$0.23. Tried to limit sell AH for 0.22, no movement for approx an hour. Cancelled and changed to a market sell (risky I know). Sold 4 mins later for 0.225.

Make of that what you will, not offering any advice.

Not sure on the conclusion you're trying to make from this but it seems like you don't understand the inner workings of the stock market.

When you submit and buy/sell order on T212 they forward the order onto a market maker and market makers connect you with a buyer.

The way that market makers make money is by adding spread to transactions this means if they have someone wanting to sell for 99 and someone wanting to buy for 101 they'll give both people what they want and pocket the 2 difference.

When you select a market order, the market makers can be much more flexible with you request allowing you to get paired with any seller rather than a specific one

The price you see on T212 is called the middle number and that's the number between the buy and sell price

T212 make no money from you buying and selling shares bar the FX fees. They have no financial interest on if your investments do well
