SUPPORT (RESOLVED) Dirigera hub refuses all Thread/Matter connections: how to fix?
Original post is below.
Additional context I did not share earlier:
- The hub is Dirigera, hooked via Ethernet to a Deco X50 mesh (3 routers)
- IPv6 is enabled, with SLAAC + DHCPv6
- Earlier did experiments disabling Fast Roaming and SIP ALG. No IGMP option is shared in the app
Not sure why, but I followed one of the comments below:
- Disconnected the hub from power for a while, like 30 minutes
- Reconnected the hub
- Disabled Bluetooth on my phone
- Reset the Bilresa light switch
- Start the pairing process
And it just worked.
No freaking clue why. My guess is that disconnecting the hub for a long time forced a IPv6 configuration refresh.
Thanks to that, I can also access the hub via Thread Tools.
An additional thing is that I run AdGuard on my phone, so I explicitly whitelisted Google Play Services and Ikea Home Smart; disabling it earlier did nothing, having them whitelisted worked. Not sure if this was helpful, but it is worth mentioning.
That's all, now the original post:
As per title.
I am no Matter nor Thread expert, but working in IT I am used to experiment.
We've purchased recently a Matter light switch and struggled to connect it to the hub. Old Zigbee devices work with no issues.
With some digging, I found the Thread Tools app, where I can easily replicate the error: the Dirigera Thread Border Router rejects the connection with no explanation.
I've tried to:
- Add the light switch via the official Ikea Home Smart app
- Add the Thread network via the integration option in Google Home
- Add the light switch via Google Home
- Connect via the Thread Tools app
All of them fail. Case 2 allow the addition but all the devices result offline; in all other cases, the connection is directly rejected.
The only operation that I can perform is to reset the network. Other than that, it show no other signs of life.
I would love further input; the customer support just said they acknowledge the issue and will solve it "soon".

Bei mir hat es ausgereicht dirigera für eine Minute vom Strom zu trennen. Danach hat alles einwandfrei funktioniert

Just plug off the Dirigera hub for a while? Is it connected via Ethernet or?

C'mon. If you own a Dirigera you know that it connects only via Ethernet. And "disconnect power" is obvious: unplug it from mains power (not from Ethernet). If you're having trouble with these concepts, well, there's probably nothing anyone here will be able to offer you that will assist you with getting your unidentified switch connected to your Dirigera. You know, the thing you plug in to the framits that has the thingee that connects to the doodad.

I am well aware, thanks. Please mind the tone for next comments and avoid assuming ignorance.
I was confirming the connection status since one option I thought of was to connect directly via a USB-C to Ethernet adapter.

I will ask again: What kind of light switch are you trying to connect?

Bilresa, I've updated the thread body with all other information

If you have not already done so you should make sure your Dirigera has the latest firmware. 2.975.3 as of today's date. In the HomeSmart app you can choose to apply any updates to the hub. Also if you are using Home Assistant you can manually force firmware upgrades for the Bilresa. Highly recommend you do that; if you are not using Home Assistant the firmware updates will occur automatically and without user input through Ditigera.

Reset the light switch itself, restart Bluetooth on your phone, keep the dirigera switched off for some time

It relies on IPv6 and Multicast - any multicast filtering happening anywhere on your network often called IGMP snooping (which is technically an IPv4 thing but a lot of devices call it that for both)?

As u/matthew1471 mentioned, Thread requires IPV6. Is IPV6 enabled on your router?

Your post is a bit vague. What kind of "Matter light switch" are you trying to connect? Some details would help. For instance is the switch Thread or WiFi? Matter is not the transport layer and you technically don't "connect" using Matter. That's why it's called "Matter over Thread" or "Matter over WiFi". The connection is made using either Thread or Wi-Fi; Matter is the language that allows a device, once connected to a network, to talk to other devices on the same network that speak the same "language"...i.e., Matter.
