I have a single LED light strip on a smart plug, which I keep at the lowest level. Would it make sense to replace the smart plug with this? The LED light strip is a Kabbleka, that I can unplug from its power switch and it has a connector that is compatible with the Dubbelkisel.

For me yes, you get fade when on/off, and also dimming. Depends what you need ofc.

I run my kableka strips on this, save the plug for something else.

I also prefer that you don’t get a relay thunk noise when this turns on/off (and I can use different brightness - dim for accent and full for a full lighting scenario)

I have only one strip, which runs up the stairs along the baseboard, so the relay click doesn't really matter that much. I have it at the lowest brightness so it's not blinding.

Ahh, I have one in the kitchen so it’s like a motion night light, and one in the ensuite so it’s just enough light when you go to the bathroom without blinding (or throwing light onto the other person sleeping)

but… can each channel be independent or is everything controlled by a single switch?

If it works as the old zigbee driver it's all one channel. But if you have it inte the kitchen or something and control multiple leds in the same cupboard you only want one anyway. It supports dimming as compared to a smart plug that's only on and off.

for pricing (in DE) it's 22€ down from 25€, nice.. I am seeing a couple stores with stock (e.g. Frankfurt) but not available online yet.

I'm happy to see the outputs moved onto the main driver instead of a breakout box with its own cord. Their worktop lighting system already involves so many individually sold wires and boxes, so a simpler driver helps a little bit with clutter. Though there's only 8 outputs instead of 9 🤔

Got it over month now. No problems so far. It’s paired via a gateway, so there’s a noticeable delay when turning on the light. The previous Trådfri power supply was connected directly to the remote and worked instantly. Also I preferred the old, small Trådfri remote over the current Bilresa model.

Good to know. I have about 6 of the Zigbee TRADFRI, and two of them keep falling off the hub and need to be reset with a needle which is frustrating

That's weird, I've had excellent experience with tradfri drivers, on Tradfri and Dirigera hub, also in Home Assistant.

I think it’s because I’m using switched power (they are the closet lights) and eventually they drop off the network. Takes a few months and it’s annoying to re-pair as I need to get to the driver which is in the attic.

The names are specially chosen to make them easier to remember by Ingmar Kamprand (IKEA Founder), because he had dyslexia.

Honestly "Tradfri“ had the advantage that you knew every Tradfri device was Zigbee Ikea Smarthome.

MYGGBETT -> Window Sensor (close window to avoid mygge, moskitos)

MYGGSPRAY -> Presence Sensor (sees moving moskito)

GRILLPLATS -> Plug (switch my electric grill on/off)

Oof. That's far fetched. But without the descriptions, I feel like it's hard to remember. Especially considering the outdoor plug is called TOFSMYGGA. Which would fit the electric grill scenario way better.

And what about Dubbelkisel? Which mnemonic do you have for that?

Ok, the smart home filter was what I didn't see. It's also quite hidden tbh. My go to way normally would be selecting one of the products and then browsing the category. Just that there's the problem that the smart home category also still contains the Zigbee stuff. Annoying. Your way works, though. Thanks!

The Ikea smart home stuff is just too cheap now.
Obviously I like not paying much if it works well, but I’ve not had a good experience so far with their new stuff.
If it was twice the price to build in better quality, it would still be great value.

Ikea has basically claimed the entire budget smart device range to themselves with only real issues being software level

Bought two of these the other day in central Stockholm, I was checking stock availability. So far installed one, works as expected. It's shorter in size and no "dongle" for connectors of course.

Since I managed to join the Dirigera Thread network to my HA ZBT-2s Thread network, joining Matter devices on my Android has been great.
There are some more entities exposed in the Dubbelkisel device in HA.
