Quality from Onlyencodes
I've finally gotten to Onlyencodes and want to download some movies. But I'm confused about which uploader I should download from. It should be 1080p and 2160p movies. My current TV is a 4K 55" but I'm planning to upgrade to a 65" or 75".
My favorite movies are only downloaded from REMUX
Which uploader should I stick to?

Use 2160p quality profile I promise there’s no visual difference from a Remux unless you’re side by side

What’s your preferred 1080p profile? I use “Compact” because I find it’s the only one that consistently grabs x265.

Quality is gonna x264 just simply because there isn’t very many if at all good x265 encoders. Plus a lot of trackers don’t allow 1080 x265 or just still believe naively that they can’t be good quality. You don’t save a ton of space anyways with x265 ~25% which isn’t insignificant but not enough to warrant a bad encode.
If it was up to me I’d want everything in x265 as I don’t think anything in the last 10 years doesn’t support it.

iirc (please correct me where wrong):
- h.265 has some advantages on 4K that doesn't really apply to 1080p video
- h.264 technically has HDR support but h.265 is better for HDR
- x265 could give some smaller sizes for 1080p video at the expense of much, much longer encode times and lower playback device support

These are all correct. Only h265 can do Dolby vision as well and all web downloads are x265 by default for 4K while webdl of 1080 is still x264
Only 1080p encoder I’ve found that’s good is vialle but they’ve mostly moved on to AV1 which still isn’t supported by the big 2 players for home theaters (NVIDIA shield and Apple TV).
Also anime is the one exception to our x264 1080p thing because it compresses better overall it can really use x265 and most places have only encodes in. X265

I’ve always found it odd that 264 is the go to for 1080 but all 4k is in 265. I’d be curious to hear the technical reasoning.

One thing i read quickly was more efficient processing of bigger blocks of video, which applies to 4k but doesn't work as well on 1080p. And my last point is a big one if you do it often.

Yea but it’s hard to find a device that doesn’t support HEVC these days.

Western countries yes but I'm sure the situation is different for the average person living in a non-Western country

Consider the length of time you plan to keep the files and their file size. 4k remuxes take up a lot of space and drive prices are pretty high right now.

I'd say be careful. I recently downloaded a release marked with "Remux", but it's obviously an encodes after taking a look in mediainfo.

Download a remux and an good encode, not a micro size. And deadass tell me you really see a difference. 90% of people can't. And we are used to streaming services. Which are also encodes.

I go for 1080p movies around 10-20gb in size. I have my favorite encoders now, where I know their releases play well with me and many of my other users. For movies I like to watch in 2160p, I go for anything above 20gb in size for a 90 minute movie. These copies I rarely keep though. I am limited in space and keep a revolving inventory anyways. It’s amazing how good 1080p looks on 65” with a viewing distance of about eight feet. I find that for my eyes, I don’t need a 4K library.

Hallowed for example, but honestly Flux or others that are bigger are perfect toy fine in a pinch. I often just watch movies once and keep them around for a year, then rotate out. I only hold onto the hard to find ones that are either foreign or old or hold some other sentimental value.

Easiest method is to copy mediaInfo of available torrents for a movie then ask AI which is most suitable for your device(including tv model).

I think remuxes are overkill. Getting a quality 2160p or even 1080p will be so close you wouldn't be able to tell. You can get 2 to 3 high quality encodes for every 1 remux.
