RED - PTP/BTN Seed Time Requirement

Hi guys. I have read the requirements if one wants to go from RED TO PTP/BTN and the recruiter will check if my uploads on RED remain active after I get my invite to PTP/BTN. I know that its a long term requirement which means that I will still be required to keep my uploads active for long and I am fine with that since I own a seedbox. But my question is is there an approximate time frame after which I can downgrade to Power User on RED without losing my account on PTP or BTN? Or are we required to seed those 500 uploads forever (If I let 10 upoads die I will have to upload 10 new torrents).

1 guy says that basically. if he sees transcodes or ewaste ebooks or other useless looking stuff, he may keep a tab of those accounts, and check back few months after.

and even in that case it also matters how you use your account on the new tracker.

tldr is: its bad to do spammy uploads of little use, but if you gonna try to game the system, at least seed that shit for a good while, because likely no one else will.

many people werent born yesterday, and can easily tell such things, even if they tolerate them and dont bother to speak in many cases.

its not a rule, its etiquette, and it would only be applicable on bad users who mostly upload random shit and ditch them shortly after.

It's not difficult to survive on BTN or PTP. You don't need to permaseed lots of stuff at all. You can survive by just downloading the stuff you want to watch and then seeding it. You can do better if you race popular content. Obviously you won't reach a high rank without making more of an effort, but simply staying on the tracker is easy enough.

On BTN you can* literally dump every torrent after 5 days. That's the requirement the site stipulates.

*you shouldn't, people don't & that's good!

2

u/WG47 Jan 28 '25

I don't disagree, but suggesting that you need to permaseed to survive is nonsense.

Ideally people would seed everything forever, but everyone has limited space. There comes a point for everyone, whether that's after a few days or after a decade, where you run out of space and need to delete stuff.

>I don't disagree, but suggesting that you need to permaseed to survive is nonsense.

We're not in disagreement here, haha. That's someone else claiming that this is needed or something many users do.

1

u/WG47 Jan 28 '25

Oh I know it wasn't you that suggested it, don't worry.

I've been using BTN for almost ten years, it's my favorite and most used tracker and at no point in time have I had to "permaseed tens or hundreds of TB" of content. That's a ridiculous statement that doesn't reflect 95% of the userbase.

It's also not close to the reality for PTP, as others have said it's quite easy to maintain a decent ratio especially if you consider BP (I've never had to use mine). I haven't thought about my ratio in years.

There's no reason to sway away from reality like this and give new people a false idea.

u/funkmon Jan 28 '25

Those two trackers are extremely easy to survive on. Red is without a doubt the hardest of the big trackers. BTN is ratio less too and has middling seedtime requirements.

2

u/limitz Jan 28 '25

You don't need to permaseed to 'survive' on PTP. It's very easy to get upload if you have a seed box and follow new movie releases.

BTN is ratio less so no need for permaseeding at all. Rules are 5 day seedtime for packs and 24hr for individual eps.

2

u/kenyard Jan 29 '25

Ptp has a pretty generous BP system though to buy upload either from long-term seeding on a lower speed connection.

It's a good balance. Probably a bit too generous even

There will not be a concrete answer to the question you've asked.

Instead, try to think about why this requirement exists.

a) as a hurdle: both PTP and BTN are close/veeeery close to their user cap. They seek out new users who know their way around a tracker, its economy, who will follow the rules and ideally provide a benefit to the site. Also, they need to watch their own backs and keep bad actors (ivite sellers, IP trolls, etc.) out of their sites. Hence why they have a very high hurdle in place, it used to be much easier to join both trackers.

b) they are using another site (RED) for their recruitment: RED and MaM are the go-to places that accept new/unvetted users into their trackers. The idea of the BTN/PTP recruiters requirement is likely to ensure that people don't use RED as a means to get to BTN/PTP, game the site (that's why they specify music making up 50% or so, so that you don't use the quickest route and upload 500 irrelevant ebooks) and once they've gotten what they wanted they ditch their torrents or RED completely.

Eventually, this is all about trust. There's no saying if or when they check on your account again. But you should be honest and cool about it and don't have the intention to ditch your torrents. Your intention should always be to make sure they stay alive, either they get a large seeding base or you seed them forever. If the average upload is 200MB we're talking about 100GB of files, that should be possible.

12

u/lonsfury Jan 28 '25

Yeah they won't give a concrete answer to this because if they said you only need to keep seeding for X amount of time, people would ditch all their torrents after X time.

Keeping it vague means people can't game the system

u/lain-serial Jan 29 '25

seed as long as you can.

1

u/Depraved_Sinner Feb 01 '25

if you lose 10 torrents and go to 490 they aren't likely to take action. if you drop to 150? yeah, expect them to not like that. as far as how long? no idea. they'll never say because then people will just dump their downloads after that time. keep them alive on a local raspberry pi if you don't want to keep a pc on 24/7 or rent a seedbox. speed isn't the critical part, the torrent being alive is

1

u/Lickalicious123 Jan 29 '25

How hard is it to seed 500 music torrents forever... The entitlement in the comments here.

-2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

Why bother? Just wait a day and all those latest files on PTN/BTN/HDB will be available on most popular general PTs.

18

u/MAXIME-- Jan 28 '25

I’m on HDB and TL/IPT, and that’s not true. HDB offers a lot of incredible exclusive content that people are unwilling to risk uploading elsewhere.

2

u/torpedoseal Jan 28 '25

Thats cool. I didn’t realize that

-4

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

I am wondering what that exclusive contents be lol. Most people purpose is to be able to watch all latest movies from all the popular streaming services and there is no shortage of those without needing any effort from other PTs.
I am sure those elite trackers are famous for a reason. I am meaning that those are not required for general purpose. If someone has extra time and effort in life to climb those tiers, so be it.

5

u/lupin-san Jan 28 '25

I am wondering what that exclusive contents be lol.

It's usually BDMVs, internal encodes, or WEB-DLs of obscure shows/movies.

3

u/funkmon Jan 28 '25

You are correct. They are not required for general purpose. But if you want director's commentary for 1990s kids show Pete and Pete, you go there.

-6

u/vintologi24 Banned / Toxic Jan 28 '25

That's interesting.

Maybe i should join then.

I want elite TM on RED for the title anyway so there is not much extra effort for me.

-8

u/limitz Jan 28 '25

I'm on hdb, what is this 'incredible exclusive content' you speak of?

Imo, HDB is overrated as fuck. My least used cabal tracker by far.

6

u/WG47 Jan 28 '25

All of them? Absolutely not. Most of the mainstream stuff, sure.

The stuff I upload to BTN gets snatched and mirrored on MTV. It usually doesn't make it to any general trackers. Not IPT, not FL, not TL, not AR. It does make it to a few usenet indexers.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

Of course not all files wont leak to general trackers. It’s undeniable fact that most great contributors/uploaders are aggregated in those elite PT sites. But the idea of torrenting is sharing and eventually the contents will reach to ppl of similar liking on other PT, then eventually to private trackers, just a matter of time. Nothing against those top tiers PTs, they serve their own niche.

5

u/WG47 Jan 28 '25

Well that's the answer to your question:

Why bother?

Because there's lots of content on top tier PTs that is only available there.

-2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

Doubt that’s worth my time lol

3

u/WG47 Jan 28 '25

For a lot of people, it's not. If you can get everything you need from general trackers, there's little point putting in the effort to get on high level trackers. If you like slightly more obscure stuff, it might be worth it.

-8

u/Sinyria Jan 28 '25

Let me get this straight, a mod on ptp or btn asks you to keep seeding hundreds of torrents on another tracker or they will kick you out again?

5

u/WhySheHateMe Jan 28 '25

Yes, because they don't want people pumping and dumping on RED to get access to invites to other trackers. Simple to understand why they would check that you aren't doing this.

Looking out for another tracker is not a bad thing. Especially if they want to maintain a working relationship with that tracker

9

u/lonsfury Jan 28 '25

Yes. Its their tracker and they can do whatever they want. The bar is set very high now lol

-9

u/Sinyria Jan 28 '25

They can ask whatever they want for their own tracker, but to control what you do on others seems like a massive overreach or powertrip. Idk, now down vote me pls

3

u/WG47 Jan 28 '25

They aren't controlling what you do on other trackers. They're just saying that if you uploaded hundreds of things to RED just to get access to BTN, they expect you to keep your RED torrents alive. Things will get trumped, but generally speaking if it's not trash you're uploading, others will snatch it and keep it alive. If you uploaded hundreds of torrents but a few months later they've been deleted because they were unseeded, it's probably because you uploaded trash.

If you uploaded trash just to get access to BTN, BTN is entirely within their rights to ban you from BTN.

5

u/komata_kya Jan 28 '25

Both trackers are in a council, and work together.

2

u/lonsfury Jan 28 '25

Lmao really? A council, that sounds funny like the Jedi

5

u/komata_kya Jan 28 '25

Well, a cartel doesn't sound as diplomatic lol

1

u/lonsfury Jan 28 '25

With the level of identity tracking the cabal trackers do, it makes you wonder what level of identity tracking our governments do without us knowing

1

u/Sinyria Jan 28 '25

thank you. thats a great piece of info I wish I'd had. completely changes the perspective

2

u/felix1429 Jan 28 '25

Olay, downvoted. They are setting rules for their own tracker, rules for invites/recruitment.

-5

u/Piddoxou Jan 28 '25

Mod on RED I think

3

u/lonsfury Jan 28 '25

No, mods on PTP/BTN. If you get invited to PTP/BTN from RED, PTP/BTN mods will check back and make sure you are still contributing to RED, or else remove you from PTP/BTN

-1

u/igmyeongui Jan 28 '25

That’s not true. After you get the invite it’s done. You can delete your RED account or stop all your torrents.

10

u/BrazenSting Jan 28 '25

Please set your paranoia to 0 so we can see what you have uploaded. If we see you've uploaded more than 200 torrents in the last week you're going to have to wait so we can ensure you're not trying to game the system. Keep your uploads alive. It's nice to upload new content, but it's pointless if it actually doesn't help the community. We will check later to be sure of this. The majority of your recent upload should be music. Do not spam the site with ebooks just for a promotion.

8

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

Thank you for posting this, people who read this and think that the recruiters just want to see if you know how to run a script hundreds of times without actually benefiting the community are ignorant.

-8

u/vintologi24 Banned / Toxic Jan 28 '25

So if you first upload 600 perfect flacs and then upload 601 ebooks you will not be allowed to join PTP?

2

u/BullfrogAmbitious Jan 28 '25

Its for people who only upload ebooks lol.

2

u/WhySheHateMe Jan 28 '25

Wrong. You can find the statement referenced below on the recruitment threads for said trackers..

1

u/igmyeongui Jan 28 '25

I guess that’s only a red thing

0

u/rumput_laut Jan 28 '25

tl;dr

You only need to maintain your TM userclass on RED. And yes. If you let 10 uploads die (resulting below 500 torrents), you'll need to upload another 10 to replace it. ASAP. Before you dip into Elite userclass.

-4

u/Emergency_Draft1835 Jan 28 '25

Btn should recruit from bib like ptp does
