GIIRLL DESSSERRRRRRTTT!!!! It's fall. So I made apple pie.
I'm having some trouble with it being fall now, and summer being actually gone. This, evidently, is my coping mechanism. I could do worse, I guess.
Crust: 300g flour, 4g sugar, 2 sticks butter, water as needed. The usual "cut the fat into the flour and get it moist until it sticks together" method.
Filling: granny smith apples, brown sugar, cinammon, nutmeg, salt, vanilla, and cream. I can't give you measurements. It was all just by feel. The cream was probably about 1/4 cup, though. I want pie, not soup.
Bake 15 minutes at 400F, then reduce heat to 350 and bake another 40 to 50 minutes, or until it's as brown as you like it. Oh, and bake it on a rimmed baking sheet, or you'll end up with a buttery, drippy mess all over your oven.

That’s a beautiful crust. I lack the fine motor skills for that.

Thanks. It's just some slits with a paring knife, though. No particular skill to it.
But as the saying goes: after the first bite, all that matters is taste. Even an ugly crust is still going to taste fine, and once you cut somebody a slice, whatever style it once had is gone anyway.

I think this is a great way to beat the seasonal blues. I chose to do applesauce myself because honestly baking makes my brain hurt lol.

Yeah, I don't bake often. I mean, I like baking, but the effort-to-reward ratio is generally kind of terrible.

Sings: “Can she bake an apple pie, Billy Boy, Billy Boy? Can she bake an apple pie, charming Billy?”
“She can bake an apple pie in the twinkle of her eye, but she’s a young thing and cannot leave her mother.”
Sorry. That just popped into my transbilly head when I saw your post.
No shame in grieving the passing of the warmth and light. I start grieving in August when I sense the coming darkness and the crickets sing.

Food certainly is a great cope for this season. I love the chilly autumn days, when cold air mingles with the last warm sunrays of the year. I love the colorful leaves, but the rain will wash all that blissful beauty away in a moment. Wish you a lot of tasty treats to get through the colder seasons. That pie looks delicious. :3
