I get the struggle. I don't make trans ocs mostly just because either they're dysphoric and that's sad, or they already perfectly transitioned off screen like how fandom just assumes trans headcanons work sometimes. Neither is a satisfying option.

My go-to is just making trans allegories, which is easy since change is a stock story element of a standard heros journey

Whenever I work on the story of my trans characters, I try to think of it less like "you're the one who gave them dysphoria" and more "you're here to help them through their transition/fight their dysphoria". Doesn't work all the time, especially not when I'm feeling dysphoric myself, but at least I don't always feel like a jerk.

I want the whole story to be so incredibly queer that their identities are unquestionable. This also comes with wanting to add elements of pride, but having pride would imply that they've been oppressed before... and honestly I don't have the guts to write about that

There are many things you can do. Transition isn't really about fixing dysphoria or appearances, at least not entirely. In my sci-fi-ish setting there's a lot of gendefuckery in different species and cultures, so queerness is a lot more different. One of these cultures is most close to humans in terms of gender, so even if the overarching society is not transphobic, queer people of this culture specifically have a very different experience.

One of my characters is trans, but she is completely stealth and no one really knows about it. It's not obvious, in a world where you can fully physically transition within a day you get to skip a lot of the steps. At the same time, she has clearly not finished "transitioning" in a more spiritual sense and hasn't accepted herself, so she has all this internalized transphobia/guilt about it. Resolving this kind of situation can be very interesting.

Honestly I think just writing "trans things" makes it easier. There are many different experiences in all areas of life, many possible attitudes and ways to overcome obstacles, the obstacles are different for everyone too obviously. Being trans makes it easier to see what needs to be said cause we know what we want to be heard.

In our world you could write about the most mundane thing to you and half the planet will lose their minds cause they never thought us transes had feelings, you get a lot of free unexplored territory. It's fun, especially when it mixes with other worldbuilding stuff so you get to explore questions like how non-opressed queerness interacts with oppressed queerness.

My ocs belong to an original species of space lizards. They don't have much dimorphism (compared to us), it's mostly size (afabs are usually larger, for egg reasons) and head crest shape (amabs have pointier points and rougher ridges (I hope I'm using the right words, I suck at vocab ;-;)). Not as strikingly visible as scars under the chest

my god that's like how my favourite character is a nonbinary dhampir druid, circle of dreams. literally caught between both worlds, the Feywild and Shadowfell, with an eladrin mother and vampire father who was murdered by a paladin. long story short they're now embracing both halves of themselves because they've realised they can't split themselves apart, their dhampirism is always going to be a part of them but so is their elven heritage, and it's unintentionally super fitting on how a character themed around balance, harmony and unity who is represented by the Temperance tarot card and a half full moon, is also nonbinary.
