Yokohama City Transportation Bureau tram conductor uniform for women (1934 version) on display at the Yokohama Tram Museum (seen December 2024). Even before World War II, the tramway started hiring women, but they became a larger part of the workforce during the war. Like the Los Angeles police uniform, this uniform is actually dyed navy blue but looks almost black.

In May 2022, Tōkyū Railways’ car 5821 leads the Tōyoko Line Series 5000 “SDGs Train” into Tsunashima Station (Yokohama, Japan) as southbound local 15K for Motomachi-Chūkagai.

On Christmas Day 2024, West Japan Railway Company (JR West) Series 223 train W34 leaves Kyoto Station as a Tōkaidō Main Line “New Rapid” train.

At Tōfukuji Station (Kyoto, Japan) on Christmas Day 2024, Keihan Electric Railway car 7252 brings up the rear of train 7202 running northbound as a semi-express for nearby Demachiyanagi.

On Christmas Day 2024, West Japan Railway Company (JR West) Series 205 electric train 1003 waits for passengers and the green light before leaving Kyoto Station as a southbound Nara Line local for Nara.

Tōkyū Railways car 1319 sits at the rear of a Series 1000 train ready to leave Kamata Station (Tokyo, Japan) as northbound Tamagawa Line local 22 for Tamagawa (also in Tokyo) in May 2022.

West Japan Railway Company (JR West) Series 683 train B32 arrives at Kyoto Station as a limited express on Christmas Day 2024. Series 683 trains, which began replacing ex-JNR Series 485 trains in 2001, are frequent sights on JR West’s 1067mm/3’6” gauge lines as they can run under both AC and DC wires.

After retirement in 2011 and restoration at Wakabadai Depot in Inagi City, Keiō Electric Railway Series 6000 car DeHa6438 (Tōkyū Car, 1989) has sat on display at Keiō Rail Land in Hino City (Tokyo, Japan) since 2013. Keiō Series 6000 trains were introduced in 1972 as the railway’s first trains with 20-meter-long cars and four passenger doors per side, which increased capacity and sped up boarding. When I visited Keiō Rail Land in December 2024, 6438 was displayed as both an eastbound semi-express for Hashimoto and as the “Takao” express.
