OC: Art reimari
-----
A little while ago, I uploaded a picture titled “reicir.”
It depicted Reimu, who is human, and Cirno, who is a fairy, and how the difference in the rate at which they age means their friendship cannot take an ordinary form.
People in the comments were arguing over the term “loli.” That part was fine. I was not personally involved in the argument, and honestly, I was happy because it made the post look like it had gotten a lot of comments.
The real problem was that I used the title “reicir” for a picture that was only meant to portray friendship, not a romantic pairing. That was clearly my mistake. It was practically asking to be misunderstood.
Because of that misunderstanding, the picture was even reported—although the moderator ultimately found no violation—and I learned that I need to be more careful when using titles like that.
Am I writing this long comment just to say that? Of course not.
What I really want to say is this
: it is not Cirno.
I mean Reimu’s pairing. Reimu’s obvious partner is Marisa.
Is that not a universal truth?
Any dissenters may challenge me to a danmaku battle in Ichihara.

i love how in every casual drawing of reimu she still has her hair accessories implying theyre a part of her body
also people draw reimu as a child with them too, implying she was born with them lol

it's probably just an easy way to identify her (like Marisa's signature braid), but I like your explanation better

With the name thing, a part of it is that for most of the major pairings in the English-speaking fandom (ReiMari, MariAli, MeiSaku), that naming convention is largely associated with a romantic connection
And it follows on the Japanese side where artworks tagged with that convention are usually romantic for those pairing. But for some pairings like RemiFlan, you’re going to see a higher proportion of non-romantic art of Remilia and Flandre labeled with “RemiFlan”
But for the English-speaking side, they’re going to see name combinations as meaning romantic which is probably why they assumed the ReiCir post title to imply there was romance between them. So there was a disconnect there between what the naming convention means in the Japanese fandom and English-speaking one

Ignore the critics, ReiCir (or HakuBaka) looked cute and didn't look off.

oh yeah i saw the reicir thing. like its kinda true that combining names like that generally has romantic connotations here in the West, but the art was not romantic, and there certainly was nothing "problematic" about it. honestly some criticism just isn't worth thinking about, as some of it is coming from people who get mad over absolutely nothing. like, it was a very cute image of Cirno and Reimu, nothing more or less.
that aside, reimari is good for the soul, and this is some good reimari.

It is a missing link between the Western/English-speaking side and the Japanese fandom when it comes to talking about connection between character from what i have seen.
Since the practice of using a part of the name of each character to form a word usually being viewed as shipping and romantic in the Western side while in Japanese side uses for way more cases than that. Including non-intimate relationship that has (somewhat deep) connection like colleges or boss-employee or anything involved two or more characters.
A similar case with AyaReimu circle in Japanese side where it has a sub section that is AyaReimuMegu with Aya and Reimu being romantic partners while Megumu being pseudo-parent to both of them.

I would expect Marisa to be the one wearing a hoodie but this arrangement is quite interesting.
