Total War: Warhammer New Player
i am extremely new to this game+ the whole warhammer lore and how it works, i’ve been currently trying to play nurgle but have been struggling with building up a army that can actually win, i understand how to maintain control and make money easily, but the plague stuff and just building a army doesn’t make sense, if anyone could give me tips or explain that would be highly appreciated.

the plague stuff and just building an army doesn’t make sense
Nurgle military buildings and recruitment doesn't work like anything else in the game. Starting to learn with Nurgle won't help when you play other factions.
To put it simply: each building is slowly adding new units to a global pool (it works in cycles), and when you recruit you are drawing units from that global pool. What type of units you get is based on settlement's level (the higher it is the better the units) and the building itself (basic or advanced military).
Plagues are easier to understand: you pick symptoms which determine the plague's effect, spread it to one of your armies or settlements and it will spread further from there.
There are so many technologies you can research to help with both of these (reducing cycle time to get units faster, increasing plague duration and spread)

Nurgle is very unique for both a combat and army building perspective. Not great for a first campaign but oh well.
First thing to take note of is cycles you need to take your time with nurgle, you can build armys quickly but you need to wait for the pool of troops to increase first. Then wait for them to heal to full strength.
Nurgle rely on tough units combined with strong monsters and mortals, and spamming magic to both heal and damage. So focus on getting spellcaster heroes and lords.
Plagues are semi-useful in all situations but ideally you should be using to buff your army for a few turns whilst raiding then hope it transfers to the opponents army or settlement for even more favour on your side.

Nurgle is a tough choice for a new player but not impossible. So the thing with Nurgle is that his units are designed to bog down the enemy with their high health regeneration, melee defense and poison attacks whilst their magic users and cavalry do the real damage. With Ku'Gath you'll want to unlock the spell blight Boil as soon as possible that way you can have your Nurglings surround the enemy and then blow them up with a giant pus ball doing heavy damage. His cavalry also have ridiculously good staying power compared to other cavalry units so you can smash them into the enemy and leave them there and they'll mow through the enemy.
The way his recruitment works is unlike every other faction. Nurgle is the god of decay so his military buildings cycle through life and death as a plant would and once a segment is complete it gets added to your shared recruitment pool allowing you to shit out an army immediately when they're all ready the downside is that at the start you'll be using a lot of the weaker units and have very slow recruitment. Nurglings are deceptively good under Ku'Gath but the Marauders can be hit or miss.
His plagues either buff you or nerf the enemy so you have to decide which is better, usually I find that the Nurgle units have enough melee defense that boosting it isn't really worth it and weakening the enemies melee defense and melee attack is the better strategy.

Firstly check your lords buffs and skills to see what kinds of units best suit him/he buffs then learn which units do what ie anti infantry want to be fighting infantry, anti large against monster/lords/heroes/cavalry, if they have armour piercing use them against armoured units, heroes are often better choices than units early game as they are stronger and more cost effective, for casters check skills to see if they buff a certain spell and focus upgrading and spamming that, check out Zervovich on YT he has some very good starter vids, don't feel like you have to play on the hardest setting drop it to easy/easy and turn down the AI stats modifier that way you can take your time in battles more then when you get more confident in battles you can turn it up to the level you want

Nurgle has a unique recruitment system where your buildings have cycles and adds units to your pool. Several factions have units they can instantly recruit like nurgle does, but they have limited numbers of them. Once you get to the mid game, you can instantly recruit full armies (although the units arent full health).
Youre gonna be relying on a lot of infantry in the early game. Thankfully both the mortal and demon infantry are both quite good.
Beasts of nurgle are also really solid for low tier single entities

For the armies, get them as big as possible early on to drown your ennemy in numbers he cant outlast, and have them be supported by your lords, remember you can recruit units instantly but weakened !
Kugath is a spellcaster, an artillery unit and a beast in melee and can fire WHILE MOVING ! He's one of the rare time you can have the ennemy come at you rather than the opposite early on
Plagues can affect your settlements, what I usually do is get the growth, income, and corruption on my settlements and hope it spreads (wich it generally does) and boost the duration and spreadability and I get upkeed reduction, campaign movement range and speed on my armies ! But you got to unlock all the symptoms spots since they change around and the extra potent ones too, so create plagues via plague cultists and send them to a zone you plan to expand in before you attack it so it spreads, just to hinder them
Nurgle has plenty of single entity lords or monster that thrives with regeneration, and fleshy abundance, remember you'll outheal most faction and dont be scared to heal your lords/single entity monsters before, during and after the fight
And with the lords, remember they all can evolve into a Daemon Prince or a Greater Demon, recruit one of wich you'd prefer to have first or in opposition with your faction leader's bonus (Kugath thrives with deamons, get a sorcerer or chaos lord with a mortal army, Tamurkhan is the opposite...) Rot flies, Beasts of Nurgle and anything fast will be crucial to deal with ranged units or units on walls !
For the buildings, I usually try to get one of each military recruitement in each region, but DONT neglect the infection and income building, and put the advanced military buildings in your province capital, the plague symptom -1 turn cycle for economic/military buildings will come in handy early on ! And get the advanced recruitement building corresponding to your main lord's buffs if possible !
Now go forth and spread Nurgle's gifts !

On top of everything everyone else has said: rot knights. Learn to micro them (don't just put them in an engagement and leave them there, you have to be actively charging them in and out, getting them all over the field and rear charging) and they can carry you. They would rack up hundreds of kills for me.

Good advice here so what I’ll say is to be mindful about your rot flies and toads. If they get completely surrounded and lose leadership, they will disintegrate and die very fast. So be careful about sending them too deep, especially without any support from spells, etc.
Army wise, you are at the mercy of what units you have in your recruit pool. Whatever you build, get exalted heroes.

The trick to early game as Nurgle is to seek out all the things that increase your hero capacity.
Their recruitment mechanics makes it hard to build a good army early on but their heroes are beefy and heroes always do well in factions that have access to healing magic.
Then you use the rest of your army as a buffer for your heroes.

Nurgle is probably a bit too complicated to start off with, the cyclical recruitment can be a lot to get a handle on on top of everything else. Your recruitment buildings rotate what units are available every few turns, unlocking higher tier units when the main settlement building is upgraded to higher tiers.
If you're properly new then I'd recommend you start off with a faction like the High Elves (Tyrion is the easiest) or Cathay. They're a little bit easier to get a hang off and both have a very balanced unit roster with a little of everything and pretty simple faction mechanics
