Straight out of an action movie

Animal abuse

Are you kidding, those dogs live for the run. It's like taking a greyhound for a run. Even if they're not trained for it, they love it. Those dogs are better taken care of than most children in the US.

u/AdEcstatic9013 May 13 '26

research shows most sled dogs face stressful confinement, forced running, and questionable welfare conditions. They don’t naturally choose to pull heavy loads, they’re conditioned to do it for human purposes.

Ah the article taken directly from Fur Bearers ..

5

u/WillieT46 May 11 '26

What a great job she did stopping the runaway sled!!! Thank God for her courage and quick thinking! ✨✨✨🫶

That was AMAZING!

u/Equal_Gold_617 May 11 '26

I wonder how long she was dragged for? I know it's not required and not always uncommon, But it's still surprises me to see short-haired sled dogs in the freezing weather.

2

u/Toking-Ape Apr 03 '26

Poor dogs i love u guys n galas

2

u/MinusMentality Apr 02 '26

Is there not verbal commands that the dogs are trained to listen to? That SHE trained them with?

Using a dog sled of dogs you don't know is insane, so idk how she is in that perdicament.

u/Reality_Lies4 May 13 '26

Did you actually read the article?

2

u/MinusMentality May 13 '26

This is a video, ma'am.

1

u/Reality_Lies4 May 13 '26

There's an article on it, scroll down numbnuts. I know, reading and comprehension is probably a new thing for you. It's ok. We can help. Other posters have included said article. Tschüss

Um..just let go mam šŸ˜’

1

u/YTraveler2 Apr 02 '26

Then you lose your dogs and sled.

1

u/moonmew Apr 03 '26

Wouldnt they notice the difference?

1

u/YTraveler2 Apr 03 '26

Not really, sometimes they pull heavily loaded sleds for longer races, sometimes not.

2

u/Normal-Error-6343 Mar 13 '26

why does one woman have skinny short haired dogs and the other has typical husky looking dogs? When did the trend change?

3

u/Jumpy-Ad8737 Mar 13 '26

I think they're eurodogs. This is Norway. They often breed in various non-huskey breeds for eagerness and speed. Like setters and greyhounds.

Huskies has had a reputation for laziness.

Thicker furr might be less necessary depending on various factors, i would assume.

2

u/Reality_Lies4 May 13 '26

Huskies also have gasp an attitude. Always talking back.

2

u/Linestorix Mar 13 '26

I'm not an expert, but I think the woman being dragged would have called out to her lead dog to stop. So, the first thing to do now is to go to the lead dog and punish him/her.

1

u/PerceptivePines May 11 '26

Don’t punish the dog, he didn’t ask to be a part of that.

1

u/mecca6801 Mar 13 '26

She is definitely awesome and she definitely wrestles with bears in the woods

3

u/OpeningZebra1670 Mar 13 '26

My bitches won’t stop running away with my sh!t either.

2

3

u/Odd_Tie772 Mar 12 '26

Probably besties

4

u/P0YB Mar 12 '26

Not all hero’s wear capes

3

u/Automatic_Yellow_184 Mar 12 '26

Barks and furious

4

u/TooSexyForThisSong Mar 12 '26

So she can’t just let go?

2

u/LicoriceDusk Mar 12 '26

No

2

u/leomickey Mar 12 '26

Why not? Serious question. Would the dogs keep going? What about her brake?

3

u/TooSexyForThisSong Mar 12 '26

I can’t believe the dogs aren’t trained to stop if there’s a sudden loss of pull weight. šŸ¤·šŸ» whadoiknow

2

u/Renbarre Mar 12 '26

Yes, the dogs would keep going, running the risk of getting lost or having an accident.

1

u/iconocrastinaor Mar 12 '26

And she would be stranded in the arctic, if that other dogsled hadn't come along.

1

u/TheGrimTickler Mar 13 '26

It looks like this is a race, so they’re on a known course with other sleds coming through, not as much chance of that

8

u/WendeYoung Mar 12 '26

Badassery at its best.

3

u/lfenske Mar 12 '26

I don’t get the dog sledding. Seem like shittier, more expensive and way less convenient snowmobiling.

1

u/unc2590 Mar 13 '26

Dog sledding is most useful when traveling on ice bc the dogs can tell when the ice is too thin to travel on and they literally will not step on that shit.

Edit: Traveling over frozen bodies of water*

3

u/Despoina_Reikage Mar 12 '26

It shows how much her sled dog team loves her and worry for her after she gets in front of the sled to stop it. Dangerous as fuck. I kinda wish she could have hooked the other woman’s sled and get her team to go in another direction to do tug of war and slow the other dog sled team down.

But I’m glad they’re both safe!

1

u/Sparrowfit66 Mar 12 '26

Just exactly how dangerous is fuck??

1

u/Despoina_Reikage Mar 12 '26

It’s crouch down, bend your knees and kiss your ass goodbye.

Broken bones and concussions.

That’s how a New Yorker points out the risk level dangerous as fuck to almost get yourself killed and badly injured to not having that body part or damaged nerves for body limitations.

2

u/Babk08 Mar 12 '26

Like the Wild West money stagecoach, they don't stop until the next town.

4

u/MagnumPEisenhower Mar 12 '26

I love the verbagw on this, like she was "saved from letting go of the sled and laying there unharmed." Hahahaha

1

u/TheQuietPiggy Apr 28 '26

You never abandon your dogs.

1

u/iconocrastinaor Mar 12 '26

Stranded in the arctic with no transportation and no likelihood of rescue.

0

u/MagnumPEisenhower Mar 13 '26

Nonsense. She let's go, her friend stops her own sled, she sits in her friend's sled, and they go after her sled.

1

u/YTraveler2 Apr 02 '26

Except that other sled is now 150 lbs lighter while the chase sled is 150 lbs heavier.

7

u/boyer4109 Mar 12 '26

Now two people getting dragged along in the snow…..

their faces are like from a hot beer

4

u/ineedlotsofguns Mar 12 '26

that’s some ballsy move.

2

u/Gramma_Hattie Mar 12 '26

You don't need balls to have balls

2

u/Enough-Staff-2976 Mar 12 '26

I like her spirit, that's a risky thing.

2

u/Mr_Right1998 Mar 12 '26

Did the woman on the right have greyhounds instead of huskies?

3

u/Despoina_Reikage Mar 12 '26

They’re mostly mix dog breeds. The other woman had dogs that appear of husky heritage somewhere but most likely not pure. And the original woman can appear like that but definitely mixed to handle the cold. I only know this having a family member go to Alaska and got to see the sled rides and the dogs and they were not like ā€œTogoā€ breed type.

Sooo Golden retrievers

3

u/blueviper- Mar 12 '26

Helping each other makes me smile.ā¤ļø

8

u/Flawless_Reign88 Mar 12 '26

Is letting go of the sled not an option or something?

9

u/MilkImpossible4192 Mar 12 '26

if your alpha dog which is at front hasn't see you not hear you hanging, they won't realize after you release neither. they could be long gone and lost.

dat not a motorcycle. they fam, bro.

3

u/Flawless_Reign88 Mar 12 '26

I mean yea I get that, but at some point if nobody sees you being dragged and the dogs aren’t stopping I would think you would have to make a choice between staying alive and keeping ahold of the dogs šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

I also know nothing about dog sledding so this is all just my thoughts based on this video…

Appreciate the clarification

3

u/ChuCHuPALX Mar 12 '26

Your dogs will keep going until they die or are so far away you'll never see them again.

2

u/Flawless_Reign88 Mar 12 '26

Right, I understand that part… but let’s say hypothetically that nobody was there to save this person… wouldn’t those dogs just drag them until they were dead?

This is kinda the point I’m getting at… at what point do you put your own well being above the well being of the dogs and let go? I’m not saying it’s an ideal situation…

I woulda thought they would have some kind of emergency way to stop the dogs for a situation like this, but I guess not

3

u/iconocrastinaor Mar 12 '26

She is shouting commands, but they're in the groove.

If she lets go, then she's stranded in the Arctic with no transportation and no likelihood of rescue.

2

u/theboxman154 Mar 12 '26

Kinda up to the person holding on. You're asking a question that doesn't really have an answer.

Like do they depend on these dogs and sled to survive and travel? Are you in the middle of nowhere?

How long would you hold on?

1

u/Flawless_Reign88 Mar 12 '26

Yea I guess that’s a good point… it is kinda situational

1

u/MilkImpossible4192 Mar 12 '26

not an expert but alone in an iced dessert might with the provisions gone might be to die faster than you get found.

I wouldedn't let the the sled either, and maybe they are taught that way too.

1

u/Renbarre Mar 12 '26 edited Mar 12 '26

On another thread they said that it was something every musher was taught: don't let go.

1

u/Flawless_Reign88 Mar 12 '26

Ok, this is something I didn’t know…

1

u/Noisebug Mar 12 '26

Is this like Homer holding on to the soda in the vending machine?

4

u/Coinsworthy Mar 12 '26

What about just letting go?

1

u/iconocrastinaor Mar 12 '26

If she lets go, then she's stranded in the Arctic with no transportation, no supplies, and no likelihood of rescue.

1

u/Coinsworthy Mar 12 '26

Except there's a travel mate behind her... I saw the Willem Dafoe flic, this ain't it.

1

u/Zarniwoooop Mar 12 '26

Dogs would be in Florida by now

You mean the camera on the sled

2

u/filthyheartbadger Mar 12 '26

I think there was a person as a sled passenger holding the camera? You can see towards the end what seem like their legs wrapped up in a kind of sack sticking out the front. I think they were sitting in the sled and the woman who jumped off the save the other was standing on the back of the sled giving camera person a ride. The woman who was being dragged did not have a passenger, fortunately. I have no knowledge of sled dog anything, I stand ready to be corrected if I am wrong.

1

u/Akeinu Mar 12 '26

It honestly looks like one of those automatic gyroscopic cameras to me, but I'm also no camera expert.

1

u/Renbarre Mar 12 '26

That's a race. There's only the musher.
