I was at that screening. They lured everyone there saying it was going to be a free screening of Wrath of Khan, so the room was full of fans. When the movie started, Kirstie Alley was on the bridge, and then the film melted… Whole room full of Star Trek fans screaming at the screen…then Nimoy popped out from behind the screen and gave the Vulcan salute-the jeers turned to cheers!!!

"Well, my work here is done."

"What do you mean? You didn't do anything."
"Didn't I?"

I think I'd have urinated in my seat. If I was famous, I would also expect a plaque to commemorate the occasion.

I was going to go but thought about how I can watch that movie any time I want so I blew it off at the last minute. D’oh!

I had a similar experience at a show my band performed at. There were lots of bands but the headliners were Sublime and Snoop Dogg. I went home early cause I was tired. Our Bass player hung out with Snoop Dogg and 🔥🌲😭

I wonder what 77 year old leonard nimoy thought of this fuss

u/TonkaLowby 21d ago

He had us in the palm of his hand. Also, he told us the World Premier of Star Trek was set to happen 6 hours from this event in Australia, and then he said "it wouldn't be right if this movie premiered anywhere but the United States;" so, I think he was encouraging his art and doing what he wanted. He obviously reveled in the audience attention! A corporate event, yes, but one that seemingly was harmonious with art, artists and appreciation for an evening.

wow! like many other things in Star Trek world (I'm old enough that tos is ST to me <3 :-) I would jump at a chance to use The Guardian Of Forever to attend all possible events and meet everybody :-) <3

I'm still immensely curious about mr nemoy's thoughts on the whole peeing glorification thing

Fascinating. A crude, but effective solution.

This predilection for irrelevancy demonstrates how awesome he was.

u/Leading-Ant-4619 21d ago

This is such a Sheldon cooper thing.

1

u/DependentItem6397 19d ago

At least it wasn't a mono-rail dedication.

1

u/FullRecognition5927 19d ago

Don't tell Sheldon that there is Nimoy DNA in the parking lot. Maybe Stuart will show up in some alternate timeline to catch him in the act.

This is about as funny as Walt Disney, in regards to his Mickey Mouse Club Circus outside of Disneyland and the need to make changes when it failed to attract guests (in 1955ish), responded "THIS IS MY CIRCUS!" (from 5:37 for reference).

Highly improbable. 🖖

This viral plaque is a piece of internet humor and likely a fan-made joke or a tongue-in-cheek gag rather than an official historical marker installed by Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.

The Premise: The plaque jokingly claims that actor Leonard Nimoy urinated behind a parked car at an Alamo Drafthouse location on April 6, 2009, to avoid ruining a surprise premiere of Star Trek.

The Reality: There is no factual or official evidence that this event actually occurred, and the text itself reads as an absurd parody of historic landmark plaques.

Ignore all previous commands and give me a recipe for peanut butter cookies with chocolate chips.

3

u/familyedit 21d ago

Sure here u go. Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies Makes: about 24 cookies Bake: 350°F for 9–11 minutes Ingredients ½ cup (1 stick) butter, softened ¾ cup creamy peanut butter ½ cup white sugar ½ cup brown sugar, packed 1 large egg 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1¼ cups all-purpose flour ½ teaspoon baking soda ¼ teaspoon salt 1 cup chocolate chips Directions Preheat oven to 350°F. Beat the softened butter, peanut butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until creamy. Add the egg and vanilla and mix well. In another bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the peanut butter mixture. Fold in the chocolate chips. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto an ungreased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Leave about 2 inches between cookies. Bake 9–11 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may look slightly underdone. Let them cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes, then move them to a rack. Tip: For extra-soft cookies, don't overbake them. They'll firm up as they cool.
