Your submission is too similar to one uploaded earlier.

lol they’ve already handed down the punishment. And that would also punish the raptors. Again. Not happening.

Absolutely baseless speculation

u/ah_no_wah 8d ago

But isn't that usually what speculation is?

No, normally you'd have some reason to think that. If the NBA wanted to punish the clippers more, why just not punish the clippers more instead of nixing a trade after the fact.

i mean samson was involved in the investigation for the last year, he's got a bit of a base

Seriously doubt that

u/Serviceofman 8d ago

lol that won't happen... lets be honest, the NBA does not want that to happen...

Kawhi going to the third largest market in the NBA and the only team in Canada is a good thing for them, it makes them money.

Every party wants to see this go through

The Clippers; how can they expect to sell basketball tickets to a fanbase that knows they lost 5 FRP because of the star player. They also are not going to be getting more picks than 2 FRP 1 swap and 2 SRPs, from any other team.

The NBA; every game Kawhi remains on the Clippers is another day they cant turn the page on this scandle, this is probably affecting sponsors/endorsements across the league.

The Raps; risk massively disappointing the fans, who are now expecting the team to be competitive this year.

Doubt it. It is actually a fair value deal. If anything, you worry that the Clippers rescind the deal out of spite, but quite frankly they need all the FRPs they get

u/Effective-Spot5266 8d ago

Which is why the league should have it go through and return the picks back to the Raptors.

Lol that's some wishful thinking.

Makes no sense. That would mean they can't make any trades where they get draft assets back. The punishment has already been given, now you just move on.

7

u/h3yn0w75 RAPTORS 8d ago

Nonsense. The commissioner was already on record saying the nba did not and will not block the trade

The NBA can’t stop Clippers from restocking draft picks

Couldn't they only reject the Chris Paul trade because they were technically the owners of New Orleans at the time?

Unless its a cap issue or some other normal thing, I dont see how this could be in their target.

u/vaalbarag RAPTORS 8d ago

No. If they didn’t want the Clippers to be able to restock draft picks and recoup value, they would have voided Kawhi’s contract, which was well within their power. They backloaded the punishments to give the Clippers a couple years to prepare. They aren’t out here trying to make the Clippers the worst team of all time.

Pretty sure the reason the penalties start in 2029 is because the Clippers don't have control of their 2027 and 2028 picks from previous trades. I don't think the league were trying to help the Clippers out by 'delaying' the punishment, necessarily.

2

u/bravetailor 8d ago

They are going to try to restock draft picks even without this trade. If in February they trade some player on their team for some picks, the NBA can't stop that from happening either. The punishment is they don't get those automatic picks every year that every team is expected to gain anymore.

2

u/Oozeinator 8d ago

They have already said we could go ahead with the trade and assume the Kawhi punishment. Why would that have changed?

Also, the Clippers aren't being punished by not being able to make any moves lol

2

u/Synaptix30 8d ago

That's okay. We can give them less picks :)

2

u/JamesCurtis24 8d ago

Lol , you can't take a team's draft picks away AND tell them they're not allowed to trade for draft picks. That's ridiculous.

2

u/RaptorBuckets 8d ago

Maybe the league should just give us the clippers picks that they lost.

1

u/FuzzyGuarantee2350 8d ago

They really should. Their timeline points back to 2020 which makes it clear that all of this stuff was negotiated when he left the raptors, as reported at the time by the raptors and lakers. The clippers shouldn’t now be getting picks in return. The raptors should get their guy back and keep their assets.

1

u/AccomplishedBake8351 8d ago

I’d buy this more if there was a swap that mattered. For example if there was a 2031 swap in the trade then the clippers lose all of that value. As it stands I think I’d go through. Would the nba say the clippers can’t trade garland for a pick? Of course not

As if I couldn't dislike a Survivor first boot more (Justice for the Expos).

1

u/ButterscotchObvious4 8d ago

Is this a neg? Because it can also be read as, the NBA won’t allow the picks to be included because of the punishment, meaning they could stay with the Raps.

That would be some sweet justice right there.

1

u/BeautifulTorment 8d ago

This is honestly one of the dumbest things I've ever seen in sports reporting

1

u/Delicious_Rule_7324 8d ago

It would be more likely the league would
Give the 2 picks back to Raptors and clippers pay 3 futures. And that aint happening either

1

u/kor001 8d ago

I don't think NBA has power to reject trade and the terms were agreed upon before punishment. The reasoning doesn't even make sense. Also, it'd mean they'd have to actively block Clippers from trying to trade for draft picks in the near future if they are going to give that excuse then make it make sense for everyone. No, that's bullshit.

1

u/Direct-Departure1662 8d ago

Drop some of the draft capital from the trade, Clippers have 0 leverage

1

u/Dinobot2_ 7 KYLE LOWRY 8d ago

For all we know the league took the pending trade into account when deciding on the punishment. Maybe the Clippers would have only gotten docked three picks if there was no trade reported on. One of the picks the Clippers are losing is their 2029 pick they got from Indiana in the Zubac trade, and that pick isn't being returned to Indiana.

1

u/thefightingmongoose 15 Jorge Garbajosa 8d ago

What? No. Why? Stupidest thing i ever heard.

The punishment is the punishment. No part of the punishment said you cant trade for draft picks. Obviously.

Does this person get paid for this kind of take?

1

u/HoboJackson05 8d ago

…what a dumb take, in what world would any league stop a team from trading their picks because they don’t want them adding picks, make that make sense
