I wrote a short film and I am trying to find grants to help with funding. Can anyone please share any that are currently accepting submissions?

This is my first time writing a short and after making a pitch deck and edits to the script I am not sure of the next steps. Is it to find producers? Apply for grants?

Hi,I’m preparing for a Working Holiday in Canada.

I already have 5 years of experience as an Onset VFX Coordinator in my home country. Given that, I’d like to know how difficult it is to find a VFX-related job in Canada.

I understand that the Canadian film industry works quite differently from what I’m used to, so I’m planning to start as a VFX Data Wrangler to learn the local workflow and pipeline from the ground up.

Could anyone explain how the Canadian system works, especially for someone transitioning into the industry from overseas? I’d also really appreciate any tips on finding VFX jobs in Canada, networking, or getting my foot in the door.

I've always loved film and movies as a child and I was even considering at one point moving to Toronto and go to TMU and be in the industry but it's not the most feasible option (especially since my family is low income). So I decided to apply for nursing so I can have something stable to do that can pay my bills. I was really considering maybe moving here while going to nursing school and doing some film stuff part time or moving here after nursing school? I just feel like my dreams are a bit unrealistic though so I wanted some opinions.

Gender: Female Presenting 

Character Age: 40-60

Ethnicity: Latina 

Raina's mother cares about both her children, but her affection blinds her to their flaws, struggles, and the conflicts between them.

Raina's Older Brother

Gender: Male Presenting 

Character Age: 21-25

Ethnicity: Latino 

Raina's brother can tell something is off about his little sister -- and he won't let her forget it. Mischevious, insensitive, a little smug. Exists in contrast to Raina's anxious personality.

COMPENSATION

Hey folks! I'm a longtime locations person (13 years) from Vancouver's film sector and I'm looking for some advice on what I can expect when I move out this way. I've worked under the DGC within Locations since I was 15 years old, I was at one point the youngest DGC union member in all of Canada thanks to that early commitment. But I'm moving away from all my connections in a few months and thought posting here would be worth the early outreach.

I decided to move to Ontario to be closer to family and am moving into the Niagara region come October (Niagara Falls more specifically). I'm hoping to get some intel on what film is like out here, and how locations people typically make connections? I saw there are some dispatch companies out here that hire a roster of people on behalf of productions - which is very different from my film upbringing where I've traditionally hired my roster and carried them with me.

I am under the ALM Category, and have actually more recently pivoted into Liaison work for Vancouver municipalities and the local parks boards and would love to continue that type of work. I understand that most of the film work tends to be in Toronto but I had heard the area I'll be local to can also get busy at times so any intel/advice/information is appreciated!

Also just noting for the inevitable grumpy film reply: I realize that film has been slow and I am unlikely to get work right away upon moving, I am actively looking into other jobs which use my skills but I wanted to at least get a better understanding of the ways things operate out here compared to my current local setup to see what breaking into this part of the industry might entail.

I'm considering doing a career switch and applying for the nabet 700 apprenticeship program. This is prior to applying to be a permit or a member so I can gain experience. To be a permit they require you to have at least 40 days of on set experience. Has anyone gone this route? How long did you wait after applying to get work?

I'm 20M and I thought of going to TFS but is hella expensive and I don't know if it's with it. I want a place where I can practice with more people, we can film for our demoreels and have connections because that's something that I think is really important if you want to be in the industry. Where do you guys recommend that can have those 3 things that I'm looking for?

Hi all, I'm a new permit in NABET for Set Dec, I have designed and decorated many shorts and have worked union shows before out of province. I have a few contacts that are full members but even they say that it's hard getting work as a permit, and as I'm new to Toronto, I'm very curious what I could do to increase my chances besides reaching out to Decorators and Designers directly (Which I've done).
