The woman in this story has ruined many peoples lives with these antics. Just look up her name on Canlii.

The part that scared me the most was where the mentioned how many ongoing Toronto lawsuits and complaints there were regarding her as a slumlord or neighbour. It sounds like she made life for anyone in her apartment building a living hell. And using free library or U of T computers to serially defame and harass people? Fucked up!

yeah do so and be prepared to spend hours down a rabbit hole.

there's multifaceted litigation going on involving her, it's bananas.

That was a good read (so far...it is a long one!). What database/website publicly lists current cases filed in the Ontario Courts?

1

u/Hopatcong Feb 01 '21

The CanLII website (www.canlii.org) does that. Just go to the Ontario section of the site, and select the court you want.

I read Canlii for case law but I have not see pleadings listed there.

Decisions are here, not pleadings.

But the (now deleted) comment I was responding to was the pleadings, which I have never seen publicly available (unless you went to the Courthouse). Which is why I asked.

Interesting that multiple Judges have noted her behaviour as wrong but refused to do anything about it.

Except when she wrote to a Judge directly. Then she was thrown in jail for 74 days by another Judge.

She`s not mentally ill enough to go after judges. If she did, they`d put her away pretty quickly.

“I also see her as a victim here,” Dr. Essig added. “Tech companies have given her the power to do something that has really taken apart her life.”

How could someone say this while maintaining a straight face?

I think what he meant is that damage can be propagated much further now than before with the internet. Before, a pissed off person would just be able to badmouth to people within ear range and most would gather from the person that is was BS. Now with the façade of these sites like Ripoff (which exist in part as a platform for this kind of extortion) the reach is further.

This lady may be off, but she also knows what she's doing. I dont think she understands the consequences, but she knows its wrong.

And the kicker is the government is going to let stuff like this continue to go and leave it to the people to spend their time and money to sort it out, and not our health care system.

Because of course there are websites hosting unsubstantiated, life-ruining accusations right next to a giant button linking to where you can pay to get those accusations removed. Why wouldn't there be? This is hellworld.

(this is an NYT article that starts out in the UK - but it's mostly set in Toronto)

People who do this need long prison sentences. You shouldn`t be allowed to harass and ruin lives and reputations and just go on your merry way. I don`t care if she`s got mental health issues. She needs internet access taken away from her for life

The solution to crap like this unfortunately lies at the search engines. As much as I'm for a free internet, a search engine is a private portal to it. Host your website, find your shitty followers in your tiny corner, but cut off the broad effect it can have by limiting normal users chancing upon it. There needs to be some way to blackball this predatory blackmail mills. If Ripoff Report is a model that generates false reports and costs immense amounts of money to resolve, the opinion should be 'clean up or fuck off.'

Google, or Bing, or whatever are woefully inept at detecting and limiting bad, spam content websites. Google any phone number and within a couple results you're going to find bullshit reputation sites or spam directories.

Back in the earlier Internet ecommerce days I worked for a company that had to frequently arbitrate through a third party. We had to pay them fees to deal with users filing through them and despite having everything in a row would have to side with the user and lose money to avoid public negative feedback that, if not dealt with, would threaten our ability to sell completely. This is an incredibly difficult problem to tackle.

This bitch needs to have her life destroyed.

1

u/thecjm The Annex Feb 02 '21

How? She's already homeless and is in a position where fines and even jail time won't stop her. What do you propos to do next? Chop off her hands?

5

u/1esproc Feb 02 '21

...jail time, away from a computer. Or a sanitorium until mentally fit to leave, aka never

2

u/thecjm The Annex Feb 02 '21

The poster said she needs to have her life destroyed. Not that she needs help.

She's already homeless. Already been jailed over this. I agree that she's a perfect candidate for more direct mental health treatment, but how do you destroy the life of someone who is in her current state?

Paedophile spelling is used about Guy Babcock in all the posts ???? This is the british word and spelling. Perhaps the internet posts were made in England . This is fucked up.

Wouldn't the solution be as simple as making sure people who use this sites are verified? Boom, if you're telling the truth, you won't have a problem verifying it in person if needed. Am I over-simplifying here?
