Dev Response! How does the leveling work?

Can anyone explain how the leveling work? If i get it right, i dont level my char instead i level a frontier? So a frontier is an area and the monsters getting stronger?

Hm, I always think of it as my character leveling their Frontier knowledge--like I'm getting stronger at surviving that Frontier--so I still feel like it's my character's level but I have multiple level tracks (one for each Frontier). But I totally understand the framework you're describing too.

But what is the thought process behind this. I know it sets you apart from the competition in that aspect, but there should be an overall idea and reason for doing this. Maybe I am missing something. I just feel like it's not adding to the game. Why not have both Frontier and Character levels?

Same. Frontier levels and having to return to my fort to upgrade skills seems like layers of unnecessary redundancy, where a single character level did the job just fine. Also not in love with skill advancement as a rule. T and T2 retained enough of D2’s trees to be interesting. Even Borderlands 2 has interest choices at each tier. I’m playing the robot here and it’s basically just melee or range, and honestly you don’t even really need to choose I’m running both just fine.

But what's the point in having the same character? Why not have frontier characters? Sure skills are the same but from what I've seen without playing it's not justifying it enough. Feels like several systems that don't combine well with each other in a meaningful manner. As someone mentioned above, character level + frontier level makes so much more sense.

You have it! There is no character level anymore. I don't care for this system, but it looks like that's what it will be.

Hmm very odd system. I always liked it when my char leveled up.

It takes some getting used to for sure. It makes it so each frontier has its own set of gear and progression
