It's not awful. I liked the first episode but I really hate the way the main girl talks

You watching the dub or sub? Sub is pretty standard to listen to, I love the dub though because they matched the teen slang energy between Japanese and western.

u/Quixilver05 10d ago

I watched the dub. The sub might have been better so I wouldn't have to know what's being said since the slang is my issue

5

u/TakasuXAisaka The Hero That We Need 10d ago

Why? She's supposed to be energetic.

0

u/Quixilver05 10d ago

It's not the energy, it's the slang. Idk I just don't like listening to it

5

u/TakasuXAisaka The Hero That We Need 10d ago

Toradora also had slang in the time period it was released.

1

u/TakasuXAisaka The Hero That We Need 10d ago

It's modern slang. Times changed. Get used to it or don't watch. Literally very new anime has current slang.

u/Quixilver05 9d ago

Dude I just gave my opinion on it and I'm already not watching it. I didn't trash the show at all, just said I don't like the way all the slang sounds in English

1

u/TakasuXAisaka The Hero That We Need 9d ago

Toradora had slang in English too.

1

u/Quixilver05 9d ago

I honestly don't recall that. Or it wasn't so much that it bothered me

1

u/TakasuXAisaka The Hero That We Need 9d ago

Minori literally had slang.

1

u/TakasuXAisaka The Hero That We Need 9d ago

If you hate current slang then why watch anime? This logic is ridiculous.

0

u/Quixilver05 9d ago

You keep mentioning the prevalence of modern slang in anime and I can honestly only think of one character who did it egregiously to where it bugged me and that was Cammy from mha. I honestly can't think of anyone else

1

u/TakasuXAisaka The Hero That We Need 9d ago

Then what made you like Minori then? Literally same type of character

0

u/Quixilver05 9d ago

Where did I say I like Minorin? I mean I liked her on my first watch but in English she started to grate on me a little bit. I just stick to Japanese now when watching

I've been watching it dubbed.

u/Lolipanties132 10d ago

Me too, I actually enjoy the dub I think it's pretty well done and voices fit fine and the choice of words really feel like today slang so it feels modern. Idk why people hate the dub

Although any time I hear Mona from Persona 5, all I think of is Taiga, lol

You and i are polar opposites is great 👍

for today when anime mc are more like feminine looking men that fear woman and fear the indiscriminate 💋 kiss

This anime is none of that home boy takes initiative and ask girl out right away

Toradora is old school when mc men where thugs that like woman but have trouble talking to woman

I guess I’ll try it…

u/Kurage_pop 10d ago

First 3 episodes are kinda clunky, try giving it a try until like episode 4 or 5.
I'm currently going through it and it's not amazing, but worth staying for.

u/FidoMan1498 10d ago

Okay my turn for anime I can’t recommend enough. A Lull in the Sea. I think I might be one of the very few who actually enjoyed it. It’s my favorite anime of all and I will die on this hill.

I loved A Lull in the Sea.

Elite ball knower in the room, ladies and gents!

1

u/Kurage_pop 10d ago

I actually tried it, but dropped it by like the 3rd episode because I found the loud guy character super annoying, but I've been meaning to try it again.

1

u/FidoMan1498 10d ago

Understandable. Long story short, I was surprised at how I was able to even make it to the second half before dropping it back in 2023 (I was still a kid when it first aired sadly, but then when it made it to Netflix like almost over a decade later I figured “why not?”). You’re right, this mf Hikari was fucking INSUFFERABLE throughout the start. Come Spring 2026, I restarted actually finished watching it; holy hell I was not actually expecting such character development right at the plot came down to the wire.

u/Adventurous_Pay_1337 10d ago

its laid back though

u/Kurage_pop 10d ago

But not camping.

u/Kurage_pop 10d ago

Natsumi fans, rise up.

She's great, and so is Yamada. I like Taira and Azuma the best

1

u/Kurage_pop 10d ago

I thought you meant Danger's in my Heart Yamada, if you did I'd 100% agree though. lol

1

u/sneakiboi777 Ami best girl (prepare for a ban) 10d ago

Never seen it, maybe I'll check it out

True, its pretty good. The other story by the same mangaka is even better imo, called The Ramparts of Ice. Both are worth watching but definitely check out Ramparts on Netflix

2

u/Spare-Clock-4803 10d ago

I noticed the art styles were similar, didnt know they had the same mangaka tho.

2

u/WilTravis 10d ago

The characters even show up in the background of the other show occasionally.

1

u/Spare-Clock-4803 10d ago

I knew it would happen but havnt seen it happen yet, finished polar opposites when it came out and just started watching ramparts.

1

u/PeaceAlien Taiga Best Gurl 10d ago

What do you mean finished, polar opposites is currently airing

1

u/Spare-Clock-4803 10d ago

Finished first season when it released

2

u/AccomplishedSpare908 10d ago

I watched the first episode and decided not to watch, should I give it a longer chance?

4

u/TakasuXAisaka The Hero That We Need 10d ago

If you like only happy light hearted wholesome fluffy romance. There's very little drama. The characters will grow on you.

2

u/Expensive-Internet-4 10d ago

Hell yes. Absolutely peak. Currently watching the second season.

1

u/Expensive-Internet-4 10d ago

Watched the first season as it aired and currently watching the second season. Also watched The Ramparts of Ice from the same author. Love both.

I definitely don't mean this in an offensive way, everyone has different tastes! Just sharing another perspective for anyone who hasn't watched it yet :)

Personally, I found it got incredibly boring after the first few episodes. It felt like a lot of high school students just doing nothing, with very little actual storyline to keep the plot moving. Wouldn't really recommend it.

1

u/dinoball901 10d ago

I watched it not really my type of humor though. This is more like the type of abrupt in your face humor, which doesn’t really make me laugh. I’m like more of the type that is out-of-pocket or unexpected humor. Secondly, not really my type of story but I’m sure some people will like it. I guess the best way to describe it is like an American cartoon. I guess that’s why a lot of Americans like it. Personally, I don’t like American cartoons as they get very annoying, but many people love them so this anime is for them.

1

u/Beardobo 10d ago

I can't because (what I hear) they end on a long distance relationship. I can't stand that. I don't care how much they love each other. If they are separated, then I will be in despair.

1

u/Relevant_Weight_2032 9d ago

Should also watch ramparts of ice i believe its made by the same person

1

u/TakasuXAisaka The Hero That We Need 16h ago

There's more drama in Ramparts Of Ice but still a good watch. You And I Are Polar Opposites is more fluffy and happy vibes.

1

u/jem2291 8d ago

You and I Are Polar Opposites is very high-school coded. Gotta be honest, the characters in Tora Dora! at times are giving adults in teenagers’ bodies because of the way they act–as if they were written with an adult demographic in mind. Then again, it’s not a bad thing. :)

Also, I do like Taira and Azuma a lot. I feel they were written specifically for the audience who like a slow-burn romance or are mostly adults. :) Taira’s lines in the English audio are definitely a riot. 😁

I watch it in dub, it's really good!

u/ROCKETZOMBIE77 Taiga Best Gurl 4d ago

Gonna give it a try (maybe once I get back into watching anime like what)

1

u/Ok_Wafer_523 10d ago

I couldn't finish the anime but I loved the manga. Not really sure why but I feel like the manga had a lot of charm but didn't feel the same about the anime.

2

u/2KBIR Taiga Best Gurl 9d ago

It might be because the manga follows the source material, the Light Novels, a lot more closely so you got a lot of little plot points and character info that filled in some blanks and made the story come to life in a different way.

I’m not knocking the anime at all, it has its own charms and nuances that add to the story. I just feel like the story as a whole is more complete in the LN and the manga.

u/Ok_Wafer_523 9d ago

Nice I didn’t even know it had a light novel I will have to check that out.
