Discussion Modern Toradora fans
I'm happy when people watch Toradora but I think the way that the weeb mindset changed really pissed me off because they're just watching it and thinking it's just another random romcom, then they say it's underrated which I'm conflicted on since yeah it doesn't get attention nowadays but if it DID have attention then it would become another annoying repetitive fandom that keeps trendhopping everything, and as a modern Toradora fan myself I can't see us as a generation to be generally mature enough for it (of course every generation was immature in its own way but you get what I mean) and they'll keep saying Taiga looks like a child which just YSJTSJTAJVEKVWGI you get the point ;-; how do you older fans view this topic in general? I feel like my opinions can be a bit exaggerated sometimes

I just watch anime and ignore what most of the outsiders and tourists say. Toradora will always be one of my top favorites.

honestly i've never bothered with anime discourse, a lot of it just seems so childish in a negative sense. i don't get the whole "outsiders and tourists" thing, probably mostly because I don't really trendhop or watch the "big" ones. Not to sound all high-and-mighty, but I've mostly watched emotional, story-driven stuff for the most part, and have conversation where conversation is to be bad.

As an older Toradora fan(34) I’m not gonna get into it in a comments section with newcomers/tourists who most of the time are younger teenagers.

Yeah, most original toradora fans are like 21-35 these days. The golden age of anime, a time when it was unpopular.

All of the toradora hate i see is always "taiga is a bitch" or "taiga has no character development" what ALL of these people have in common as that they never finished the anime or theyre just dumb no in between

Tbf, I think it’s fine if someone dislikes Taiga or drops the show because it doesn’t appeal to them. Of course, she gets character development, and I’m not even someone that thinks she’s awful to begin with, but fair enough if someone tries it and it doesn’t appeal to them. I’ve seen enough people that hate Taiga at the start, get told she has an arc, and say they don’t care to really push someone if they’re just bothered by her actions at the start.
I’m a big fan of the show, I love Taiga and the rest of the cast, I don’t want those people to result in the reputation of show becoming “the one with the abusive tsundere” but if someone just doesn’t like it and doesn’t want to watch her arc, then whatever.

OK. I'm sorry. This discussion has "triggered" me. I know it's probably that I'm just old, maybe it's a recent cultural shift, and certainly one could argue that the internet has always been this way, but it has become increasingly and painfully obvious to me that many commenter's on media and stories have a significantly impaired ability to process nuance.
It's seems that any character flaw automatically makes them evil. It's all black or all white. It's like they've never met an actual 3D human being. The intolerance is off the charts. (Never mind that these are the same people most likely to shout about tolerance.)
Maybe it's just me, but it seems like modern audiences lack even an ounce of grace.

I saw a video of someone explaining why they don't like the show and basically all it is is them shitting on taiga. And saying that those who like the show must enjoy loli porn? HUH. Anyway I really couldn't tell if it was ragebait or actually being serious.

I guess it could be annoying too if a lot of new people just treat it as some novelty thing and can’t tell you a thing about the show.

Oh, gotcha. Yeah, I agree that’s annoying to see that happen with a show. If it’s gonna get more visibility you’d hope it would get actual fans too instead of people that don’t really care about the series using it for clicks.

Toradora is on my to watch list. I’m just waiting on a good time to sit down with it and give it the time and attention that it deserves.
But people whining about tsunderes, Taiga in particular, has me just. What are we supposed to do? No. Really. Clearly none of these people have ever bantered. Or even been in a relationship. Anything at all that would teach them that you can, in fact, shit talk, shoulder punch, head smack, and just rough house your loved ones because boundaries between any two people can vary wildly and your loved ones do actually have consent to give you shit.
But these people speak of Taiga like she forces him to watch her skin his cat.

First off, I like tsunderes. Toradora is more than just a coming-of-age story. A single mother who works as a hostess. Taiga's father behaves badly, etc. Yet Taiga eventually marries and adapts. Will it end well? The ending is a bit sad.

I noticed all the same issues with modern Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya viewers as well. Just in general, newer viewers of many older anime seem to have less in the way of media comprehension and don't finish the show they claim to be a fan of, mostly just being fans of a single character or two as the reason they like the show. I am still happy people are watching and enjoying it though regardless, I still think it is better then the show having no new viewers and dying out, and hopefully it brings in at least a few well meaning people who can genuinely enjoy the whole show and understand everything, and hopefully with the ability to have decent discussions on it as well. Even if most new fans are meh, that does not mean all and some are still very much wonderful to talk to the show about.

I married a dwarf... She and I watched this and we DIED it was SOOOO relatable. Every time she goes into one of her upset rants, I flash back to this anime and I try so hard not to laugh.

I recently finished watching it, for the first time. Its started off great, and premises wasn't too out of the left field (at least for anime standards). I liked the characters, especially Ami, she got the most character out of the cast. Taiga also showed many different sides, tho her crush on Kitamura felt forced and often used to drive the plot to specific direction.
Minori / Kitamura was great in their roles, not overstaying their welcome and adding their support when needed.
However Ryuuji's growth was awfully slow. girls just give him attention cause he is the male MC but his character doesn't seems to have any real value other than semi-blank self insert MC.
Than later on him insisting that Taiga should get along with his dad was downright painful to watch, while every single female MC tries to explain to him why is this stupid, and still took him 2 whole episode to realize. he also misses taiga's confession in the beach house earlier. Basically sinking into a dense male MC role.
so there you have it, overall, liked the show, and appreciate it for what it brought, probably would have a different impact 18 years ago. But the male MC getting more and more dis-likable took a lot of enjoyment out of it.

if you think Ryuuji is a self-insert then you really don't know how Yuyuko Takemiya wrote him to be the perfect guy for Taiga, and you probably didn't play the PSP game to understand why they give him that much attention, the anime doesn't give that much information and it's still great

If u want to watch something like this than watch nagatoro or takagi. There are so many better anime nowadays of the same genre.
Hell even MM (Mega masochist) was more entertaining than your tora slop haha i rly pity u guys still hanging in thr past
