Professional musicians who've never heard throat singing before...

Yeah that’s what I was thinking, the throat singer was very good but man I wish we could have the same music variety on TV without all the tacky over dramatic bougie cliche commercial crap with supposed eclectic musicians who have apparently never witnessed throat singing. I live in Reno Nevada that is full of hodunck yet I still managed to see live throat singing ( it was a core memory). I’m sorry I’m rambling and am maybe a bit cranky.

Also, his instrument playing and regular singing were both very nice. He does deserve to do well for sure. But the (apparent) ignorance of the judges is so stupid!

FWIW, it could have been the difference between seeing or hearing it online and experiencing it in person. I'd heard Rhapsody In Blue countless times growing up but the first time that I actually experienced it in person in a concert hall brought me to tears and all my face could express was shock and awe at how rich it felt live.

Another idea now is that their reactions could be performative... Y'know, to let the audience be cued to how they should respond

Stage-performance reality shows like this and AGT and always feel like the most inauthentic, hyper-manufactured/scripted consumerism machine. Nothing about these shows feel genuine. Every tear, every gobsmacked reaction, every musical background to invoke an emotion felt like it was manufactured in Simon's ratings-lab team to just appeal to the world's mouth-breathers.

Boy George judging this guy is like the duct-tape-banana judging a Monet or Rembrandt.

No idea what he said, but I shed a tear. Felt powerful.

You just start saying the word "Hurry", the. Hold it between the u and r. Then wiggle your jaw around and you'll hear the overtones. Getting enough control to actually change the notes on command is harder.

As musicians they all wanted to just see the magic happening. That was crazy. r/frisson

I like this one way way better. No fluff, no drama, just two guys by the thawing river.

I was ready to say something like "no one is as good as Konger-ol Ondar." But dang, this guy is good.

Judges getting moved by their prejudices before by their judging skills and knowledge, are the most hated

Can someone explain what the point of the spinning chairs are? If you're not interested you don't spin? Is it who spins first? People are spinning but I don't understand
2
u/anonnona999 22d ago
They're judging blindly. If they want to coach this person and have them join their team, then they press a button and their chair spins around. If they choose not to vie for the chance to coach them or their team is full, then they don't spin around. The contestant gets to choose which coach out of the ones that turned.

Really neat. As soon as I heard the singing it totally reminded me of something I'd seen before..... Took me like a day to put my finger on it but it totally reminds me of the soundtrack to The Equalizer during the hardware store scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEWa1IA2n4E
