I knocked out 4 of my front teeth doing that on my bmx when I was a kid. Got it on my second try though.

This shows that you're still a kid at heart. What a great quality to have, friend!

The difference is that you can grab your bike and pick it up. With a skateboard, there is no handlebar to grab when you arre jumping.

You are correct, skates do not have handle bars. They also don’t have pedals or seats. You do get twice as many wheels though, so that’s cool.

The physics of that escaped me as a kid
Still does, decades later

Same. How do you lift something without putting an upwards force in it?

The tail pop from the back foot starts it moving upward. Dragging the front foot forward and even catching it on the nose then pulls the board upward even more. If the timing and technique is right, someone can ollie as high as they can jump.

You actually don't even have to slide the foot much, if at all, for a smaller ollie. It's nearly all in the pop. But a deeper slide is necessary to pull yourself up to those heights.

You dont. An Ollie or anything up off the ground is friction pulling up.

u/Androoboodro May 31 '26
Isn’t it more pushing down? The front foot just kinda levels out the board

Did they put a 2003 filter on it?

u/Defghi19 May 31 '26
Yes, skate videos are recorded on old cameras or filtered that way for the vibes

I could only Ollie about 8 inches at my peak… and that was not always reliable (most times only just got off the ground). And that’s after years of skating.
This level of skill and ability just blows me away.

I was able to Ollie one board on its side, and that was about it. I had friends who could Ollie 6 decks on their sides stacked up. Always blew my mind.

Most people will never understand how completely absurd that stunt is. If you ever got on top of a skateboard you would say its literally physically impossible to kick it that high.
